Thank you DN for sticking up for the community's best interests over the
childish pouting of two corporate entities and their selfish interests."Ski resorts rely on access to public land and a host of other public
amenities and services. Do they think playing “chicken” with the
Park City economy is a way to build goodwill among public and private
partners?"It seems you could substitute the name of any industry
in place of "Ski resorts" and the same statement would hold true. "With every right, comes a responsibility\" - a motto I learned
as a child and have never forgotten over 5 decades.
Talisker is owned by the Cumming family. What? Do they need more money? I
thought that they were good Utah corporate citizens. Now it appears for them to
be all about the money.
Maybe one could LEASE their part to the other... and then they BOTH make
money... Instead of them both loosing a season's revenue.Or is
this just about sticking it to the other party... and trying to put them out of
business (or at least cost them as much damage as possible)???
Corporations are people and people have the right to do what they want with
their property, right? Corporation people are more important than just plain
people because they're "job creators". Maybe they can claim all
this recalcitrance is due to their "corporation religious freedom." The
"free market" at work. I don't think these two businesses could
generate enough ill will to keep skiers from returning whenever they do open
@Selznik,You seem to be putting a lot of phrases out there that nobody
said on this topic. We call that a Strawman. Pretending you know
what they would say (in your mind) and saying it for them, usually in as weak a
way as possible... so you can easily knock it down or mock it (but they actually
never said it... you just IMAGINED them saying it).The flaws in your
straman...1. Corporations aren't people... but corporations are
made up of people (usually many people) and they represent those people's
interests (keeping that corporation alive, fighting legislation that hurts the
corporation and it's workers, etc).2. Nobody said
"Corporation people are more important than just plain people"... You
just said that for them! That doesn't mean they actually believe
it (just because you said it for them).==============You
should site actual "free market" principles (they aren't what you
stated). And contradict them with actual logic or examples. But it's lame
just imagining people would say things you WISH they would say, or things your
stereotypes for them indicate they WOULD say (even though they didn't
actually SAY it).
@flashback,You have it backwards. Talisker is not owned by the Cumming
family. Cumming owns PCMR and Snowbird. Talisker owns the Canyons and the
slopes PCMR uses.
I wonder if they could work together and BOTH make money...Probably
not. In business when you get a chance to destroy the competition... you take
it (even if working together you could make MORE money).
I stand corrected. I read an article that mentioned the Cumming family as
principles in Talisker.
