I have spoke to Kyle once at his U gym and seen him play at BYU while going to
school there. What a nice guy. I wish him well and I like to see him win many
games this year (of course not against future BYU). All I can say, good luck
Kyle Whitingham with your program at the U for 2014.
Despite the record the Utes have improved the past couple of years. Problem is,
so has the rest of the conference. Last year there were 3 key games that
determined the season. A loss to OSU early in the year when a stop on 4th and 9
would have won the game. A loss to ASU despite a 10 point lead entering the 4th
quarter. A win against Stanford despite almost losing a 13 point lead in the
4th quarter. Winning 2 of these 3 would have meant a bowl game, winning only 1
meant a second losing season. KW is a good coach but needs to make it happen
And if Utah finishes last in the conference then what? That is following
everybody's opinion that Utah and Colorado will battle for last. I like
Coach Whit but how long does he stay in the good graces of the powers to be?
I feel sorry for Whittingham - he's in a no-win situation.
its hard to reminisce when your job is on the line. Whitingham knows full well
he can't finish again with a losing record in the PAC12. If he does - he is
gone. Utah must win against the middle tier PAC12 teams including CAL, Arizona,
Oregon State and Arizona State.
I hope Whit can win this year. He's not the problem. The problem is the
inability of Utah to recruit a roster full of 4 and 5 star talent. Trying to
attract said talent to Salt Lake City and the state of Utah is a much bigger
challenge than the Utes really thought it would be. Changing
coaches will not change this.
I can imagine that sometimes it seems like a few years and sometimes it seems
like 100 years. That is the life of a football coach depending on your success.
I am guessing that at the end of another losing season it will feel like the
later. He should be able to find a new job pretty easily at the end of the
season as he has had a decent career. He just is not cut out for coaching in a
big time conference.
Whittingham is a stud. The guy is the definition of a Utah Man and he is
Utah's best chance at continuously being competitive in the Pac 12. He has
stuck around even after being offered a job at the much bigger, more prestigous
program Tennessee. That's gotta count for something (not to mention
he's given Utah a decade of dominance in in-state rivalries). Rational fans
realized this transition wasn't going to be easy. What has changed?
He'll get us there but it'll take timeThat said, I am
strangely optimistic about this season. For the first time in ages the Utes have
a legitmate back-up QB in case history again repeats itself and Wilson goes
down. In previous years Whittingham has brought in new OCs without any other
changes on the offensive staff. Almost every coaching position on the offense
has changed and some of the new coaches were hand-picked by Christensen. If the team can stay healthy, and that's a big IF, I look for the
Utes to surprise many teams in the Pac 12. Utes go 8-4, recieve an invite to the
Las Vegas Bowl and beat 11-1 Utah State 31-17.Go Utes!!
Again, all of the BYU fans predicting Coach Whitt's fate. Stanford coach,
"they beat us". Something you never hear from the coach down south.
They still think 10 is greater than 54.
65TossPowerTrap"I feel sorry for Whittingham - he's in a
no-win situation."No you don't and no he isn't.Thanks for playing. We appreciate your commitment to and perseverance
with all things Ute though. So, please, come again! Have fun in
November with UNLV and Savannah State!Go Utes!!
He'll have time to reminisce about what it was like when he "was"
Utah's coach in December while others are playing in bowl games.
I love all the coug fans predicting coach Whit's doom. These are all the
same fans that cheered when their offensive coordinator was fired and then
predicted a national championship when he was hired back because "he learned
so much from coaching in the PAC."Kyle does indeed have a
difficult task ahead of him with the nations toughest schedule. But he
hasn't lost his team and they have improved collectively across the board.
They were in almost every game last year and if they could keep their QB
healthy, we wouldn't be even talking about this. He has been good enough
to beat your mighty cougars year after year but then again, we shouldn't
compare the two programs because they are clearly at two different levels.Go Utes!
I have always been impressed with Whittingham as a coach. He seems to always
put a good product on the field, especially on the defensive side of the ball.
Utah would be very foolish to cut him loose at this point. Starting from
scratch with a new coaching staff could potentially be a death sentence to the
program. If Utah can have some consistency on the offensive side of
the ball and gain some momentum in recruiting, I think they will see some
noticeable recruiting. Recruiting athletes to play in Salt Lake is
hard enough, the only reason it has been decent is because of Whittingham and
the staff he has had. Lose Whittingham, and Utah loses all credibility-
in-state recruiting will suffer, and there will be a drop off that will take
years to recover from. Unfortunately, the Utah fanbase continues to
be unrealistic with their expectations and have put a lot of pressure on
Whittingham. You are at the bottom of the best Conference in the Nation. 8-4 is
a looooooong ways off.
Utah will go 7-5 and go to the best bowl game of anyone in state. And
Coach Christensen and NASCAR will be the reason why.Go Utes
Should I take the approach utah "fans" would take if this was an article
about Bronco or BYU? Ok, just for fun let's do that. This is
obviously a fluff peice designed to justify the failures as beyond the control
of whittingham as well as prop up the utah "fan"base and convince them
all is really well with this sinking ship. And yes 4-5, 3-6, and 2-7, is
indicative of a sinking ship. The Dnews prints articles like this
because they are utah homers and the delusional utah "fan"base slurps it
up with thoughtless acceptance. All is well, whittingham is the
greatest coach ever, utah is the greatest program ever, all is well.
