I remember before the library was built. The long (North to South) WWII military
building that housed the old Kearns Library. I remember sitting on the heat vent
on the West side of a North room in that old library, as it was also the library
used by students from Oquirrh Hills Elementary just to the North of it then.
That's where stories from books were read out loud to students in the first
few grades I was in at that school, until after 3rd grade, when students where I
lived were transferred to David Gourley Elementary School a mile North and
slightly West of where Oquirrh Hills Elementary School is. Then, it was the joys
of hearing more stories from more books read out loud. But then, it was from the
large and expressive mouth and in the voice of Mrs Elmer, who continued, for me,
bringing out the magic from children's story books! On, where are the
simple joys of childhood?
