If your daughter or son is obese, they need to be on a diet!
No. If your daughter or son is obese, they need to eat healthy and exercise
more. Not be put on a "diet."
Ultimately, diets are counter-productive. They produce a "scarcity"
mentality that causes people to obsess about food, thinking about it more than
they normally would. This leads to eating emotionally, rather than just what
the body demands. If the diet is harsh, it raises the body's "set
point" making it even harder to keep the weight off. People and businesses
make a great deal of money marketing diet related products. They get
testimonials from doctors (who are being paid) and promise what can never be
delivered. After 25 years of the self-inflicted prisons of various diet schemes,
my wife finally tried "intuitive eating". She gained a few pounds at
first, but over time her weight started coming down naturally and she now weighs
less than ever before. Best of all, she doesn't obsess about food anymore.
She tries to eat healthy, but allows herself small treats as the craving
occurs. For more information on this, google "intuitive eating". It
may change your life.
Another great article with knowledgeable/useful info. Thanks Lois!
