I'm glad South Jordan, where I grew up, avoided the fate of the Canyons
School District. They broke off to promote the the elite club of the east side.
South Jordan has a significant average income base and they will do a lot of
good for the entire Jordan School District, and benefit from keeping taxes and
per student costs down for all residents. They do need to get to reducing class
sizes and building more schools with haste. Keep the pressure on.
finally someone is using their brain for something other than to hold their ears
apart. splitting districts raises costs and thereby hurts the students. some
districts can get too large to effectively manage, but that is definitely NOT
the case in the JSD.
South Jordan continues to threaten to leave the district if Jordan School
District does not meet their list of demands, even though it will cost taxpayers
more and reduce services. Perhaps they need to elect some city council members
with some common sense.
Chuck Newton needs to be voted out of office yesterday. Just because he's
upset shouldn't be a reason to float a nonsense idea such as this. But it
would definitely raise their taxes significantly. Were they to do some thing
this dumb, they would deserve it.
