Even though one never knows about any team until the snap of the ball in the
first game, all things look terrific for the BYU Cougars. We are looking forward
to a great season!Go Cougars!
Wow.. There is a lot of speed, size, and versatility in this WR/TE corps. With
the additions of Leslie, Blackmon, and Kurtz, this group should be elite,
especially if the O-Line is as improved as reported. With Taysom
Hill's big improvements as a passer (Top 8 in the Manning Camp), a solid
group of RB's, and several returners on the O-Line, this could be a very
potent offense. Putting defenses in a "Pick your Poison" situation.
College Football is only 1 month away!
This article didn't really mention chemistry. While we are loaded with
talent I'm a little nervous about the lack of time most of our potential
starters have catching with Hill. Do we know anything about how Hill is getting
along with all these transfers? Does he have any preferred targets at this
Wiscougarfan,Chemistry and timing between a QB and WR's are
both key ingredients to a good passing game. Unfortunately, I don't think
we will really have an idea of how that has developed until they suit up vs.
Uconn. But from my understanding, Hill has spent a lot of time throwing to
Kurtz and Davis this off-season. I'm not sure how long it takes to build
that chemistry or trust between a QB and WR, but the new additions in Blackmon
and Leslie as well as those players returning from injury should get plenty of
passes from Taysom. And given Hills performance at the Manning camp, it's
clear his accuracy and deep ball has greatly improved, but we will see how that
transfers to game situations.
orrection: Brad Heap has retired from football and another one of these players
has an injury that may disable their ability to play football ever again. but Tons of talent on the outside.
gamer ... guess I missed the announcement on Brad Heap (disadvantage of not
living in Provo) when and why did this happen?
The WR group looks very promising for the Cougars this year, despite the loss of
Hoffman and Falslev. Still, the success of the offense overall is still going to
depend on the O-line which in recent years has been inconsistent at best, and
downright awful at worst.
Hey! Today is Day 1 of the BigTen Media Days. Shouldn't Brandon Gurney
and/or Dick Harmon be in Chicago covering any breaking news about how the BigTen
will continue to not invite the cougars to join their league?
@Naval Vet.Silly boy, being in the B10 isn't really an option
right now. They aren't looking to expand and Provo is far from most of the
B10,you know that mr. naval. The big 12 bill eventually expand and
need to grow in order to establish a conference title game in order to increase
their chances of making it into the playoffs. They need more teams, sure it may
not be for a couple years, but eventually they'll have to expand in order
to stay competitive with the rest of the p5 teamsNow back to
topicI can't wait to see these new comers entering cougar
nation. I love the speed and the size of these recievers, it should be fun to
watch. I hope anae can figure out a way to incorporate the tight ends more into
the offense. I think there were 3 TE's mentioned at 6-5, 6-7, and 6-8! holy
cow that can be a very valuable asset to this offense.Good job
cougs, Can't wait for the season to start.
mindgames- Heaps didn't see a future of playing time and decided to focus
on school. He envisioned himself as a QB while BYU saw him having an impact at
OK. Something is wrong! 14 recievers @ BYU who are 6' or taller.
Can't be right.
Hey Irrelavant...you're spot on with Mr. Navel. I didn't know this
article was about him and the u.
Matt Sumsion came home from his mission at a solid 245. Look for him to
contribute at 6'8" 245
@Navel LintHey! Today is Day 1 of the BigTen Media Days. Shouldn't
Brandon Gurney and/or Dick Harmon be in Chicago covering any breaking news about
how the BigTen will continue to not invite the cougars to join their
league?"---------or maybe they should be covering
Travis Wilson getting busted for underage drinking and the hoops Kyle is going
to jump through to sweep this under the rug. That would be bigger news than B1G.
Players from this group I'm anxious to see:Matt Sumsion. I
don't know if he'll get on the field due to recently returning from a
mission but he was all-state in basketball before his mission and is an exciting
prospect with some really nice hops.Devon Blackmon. I can't
wait to see how Anae uses him in the offense. I hope coaches make it a priority
to find ways to get the ball into his hands. Passes, runs, return game, etc.Ross Apo. I really want to see him have a strong senior season. He had a
pretty good freshman year and it would be nice to see him go out with a bang.Devin Mahina. He came in with a lot of potential and then due to
mishandling of the TE position, injuries and a logjam of players at his
position, he hasn't been able to make his mark. I hope he goes out with a
bang also.Colby Jorgensen. He was a SPARQ champ before his mission
and at 6'7" could team up with 6'8" Sumsion or 6'6"
Mahina, 6'6" Mathews and 6'6" Kurtz to present a real
challenge to shorter DB's and LB's.
