It means that we are in dire need of campaign finance reform. We are
only 1 of 3 states that allow unlimited campaign donations. No longer
should that be.We need strict rules and regulations. Those being
investigated by the AG should never be able to give house boats or other gifts
to our AGs. Donations, if they cannot be eliminated must be strongly
regulated. Teachers cannot accept gifts worth more than $25 dollars. Why should
our elected officials be any different?
I think for teachers it is $10 but why quibble when our elected people can get
If found guilty, it does show the dangers of one party domination. And it also means we should expect our highest law enforcement officers not to
be meeting with on-line poker operators or pay-day loan persons. There are too
many snakes in these fields and when you hang out with snakes you can be bitten.

Re: "'I think the real message politically is we need a two-party

Democrats insist on being a vote-buying, anti-jobs, anti-American party,
representing only the basest, most brazen special interests, the likes of: the
entitlement industry; the victimization industry; the abortion industry; the
crony-capitalist, not-ready-for-primetime wing of the energy industry; the
anti-human environmental industry, and the libertine "hospitality"
industry; even people like me -- a lifelong, hereditary Democrat -- will
continue to be forced to vote for people outside the Party, who have the
interest of real people, real Americans, and real America, at heart. It's up to Corroon and his ilk to wake up and smell the Postum. If the
Utah Democratic Party remakes itself into the party of Harry Truman, rather than
that of Harry Reid, it may be able to make itself relevant again. If
not -- well, there's always that whining and wandering in the desert tactic
that has characterized us for so long.

it shows that this had better not be a political targeting by a liberal DA, or
this will be the last Liberal Elected in this state for a long time!
These arrests will have no impact on how I vote in 2016 for AG. Stormont has
already pledged to violate the oath of office, so I know I cannot vote for
him.‘House Minority Assistant Whip Rebecca Chavez-Houck,
D-Salt Lake, said the House investigation couldn't have happened without
Republicans who "were really focused on the integrity of the institution and
the integrity of public office."’Even local dems know the
local GOP is interested in rooting out corruption, unlike the national dem
party. The only reason the injustice department did not file these charges
following their investigation is they knew it would lead to harry reid.If these guys are found guilty, I hope they get what's coming to them.
They should have known better than to hang around with someone with such a poor
reputation as jeremy johnson.
"What do the charges and arrests say about Utah" ?Well first of
all, it says that we don't tolerate crime (allegedly) at any level in our
state regardless of who it is. Second, I hope it sends a message to other
politicians and folks of authority in our state that you will be arrested if
investigations show enough evidence of wrongdoing. As a resident of this
state, I expect the leaders of this state to conduct themselves with a high
level of honesty and integrity at all times. Maybe this action will make others
squirm a little and possibly hinder them from running again or seek an early

"we're like every other State". We have some people with lots of
integrity, and some people with not so much integrity (just like everywhere
else). The sooner people realize that Utah is just like anywhere
else, and that Mormons a just like everybody else, and Republicans are just like
everybody else.... the sooner we can ALL get back in touch with reality. When you think YOUR party is perfect, or people in YOUR church
don't make mistakes... you are not dealing with reality. And that includes
It says that we have corrupt people here as much as any other place.
Re: "It says that we have corrupt people here as much as any other
place."Well, when you figure that the last several mayors of a
number of rust-belt cities have all left office to serve prison sentences, that
more than one secretary of state countenances and enables vote-rigging and
election fraud, that several mayor/police-chief combinations in California
somehow ended up with ironclad, million-dollar pension contracts, or that the
President of the United States, aided and abetted by his Attorney General,
steadfastly, even proudly, refuses to perform his duty to "take care that
the laws be faithfully executed," it'd be hard to prove we have
corruption here "as much as any other place."
So candidates can accept unlimited cash donations? And yet those people who are
in favor of the "neighborhood caucus system only" use the argument that
they are needed because if we were to all for a direct primary system that only
the rich could be candidates? Seems to me that that is what we already have here
in our state. Well funded incumbents who have had to only play to a small group
of citizens. Interesting.
When the perception is given that pleasing the lds and old, conservative
campaign donors is the main qualification for office, you get a bunch of
pleasers, not doers. And since being in office mainly to please
encourages falseness, even lying, you get a bunch of crooks and knaves.People who really know how to get things done apparently do not win in Utah

I always laugh when I hear Utah democrats complaining about Utah's "one
party" system, as if it were the republicans' job to get more democrats
elected! Fact is, if Utah is a "one party" system, it is because the
democrats have failed to present a philosophy, a message, and candidates that
appeal to more than a small minority of Utahns. Maybe Utah would be better off
with more political balance. So, I say to Utah democrats, Shape up. Get your
act together. Stop being the party nobody wants. Start promoting good ideas.
Let go of tired old philosophies that Utahns won't embrace. Start
reflecting Utah values. Then you will start winning elections and we will have
balance. But, as long as you embrace minority views, you'll be the
