Or...Here's a crazy idea...We get rid of all this
dirty money in politics and allow the best candidates to win and the best ideas
to be passed and signed into law.Why should special interest groups
with dirty money for the right, left, or center be involved in governing?I just don't see the necessity of having money involved in politics
The writer has no idea what constitutes the "left." I am a leftist and
as such belong to the Socialist Party USA. THAT and similar organizations are
the left. We are not supported by any of the mainstream media. From our
perspective the mainstream media and the universities are centrist to right
wing. It is practically impossible to be appointed to a teaching position in a
major university if one is known to belong to a socialist party. So
Citizens United bulks up an already right leaning system.
Wow, just throw out some generalizations and you can make yourself believe
anything, even that money in politics is GOOD.Liberal bias in the
media is the first faux point. Facts have no bias. Colleges as well
aren't liberally biased, they are fact biased. The problem comes
around for republicans when they are trying to sell you lies. They are telling
you the world is scarier every day when we are in fact safer than ever in
history. They want to tell you we are morally failing when there are more
opportunities and personal freedom for everyone than ever. So they will need
UNLIMITED amounts of money to throw into politics to convince you that the world
is dangerous and decrepit and they are the ones that can fix it for you.
IMHO -- As completely wrong this letter writer can be can possibly
be, At least now I have a better understanding as to the how's,
what's and why's that leads many to support the Gadiantons Robbers. You are being deceived.Hint: Study up on Lucifer, Cain and
Master Mahan...To Gadiantons -- it's never an issue of
"left" vs. "right" [as they hope and trick you to suppose],but rather always a "rich" vs. "poor" - or
"powerful" vs. "powerless".
Malarkey.Money is the evil of our political system. Our
representatives, be they left or right, follow the money and not their
constituents interests. The decision to allow corporate America or any group of
interests to spend unlimited amounts of money on endless campaigns demean the
democratic process, lessen the debate, and promote the unhealthy interests of
pressure groups. We should do what most other western style
democracies do. Publicly finance campaigns and limit the amount of time for the
campaigns. Aren't we tired yet of endless ads, endless lies and endless
Liberal bias in the mainstream media is a legend. The media are as diverse as
the American people. Use a stopwatch on any NPR political report and you'll
find that equal time is given to all sides.
Marxist: Compared to your perspective everybody is right leaning. But that
doesn't mean that the media, many colleges, and Obama aren't pretty
far left of center.Compared to the Nazi party Ted Cruse is a
liberal, but that doesn't mean he isn't pretty far right (or are you
are saying that it is OK to call him a leftist?).
Citizens United provides an avenue for moneyed interests to control the process.
JoeCapitalist2Orem, UTCompared to the Nazi party Ted Cruse is
a liberal, 8:00 a.m. June 27, 2014========== Really?Anti-Communist, Anti-Liberal, Anti-Acedamia,
Anti-immigration,Anti-Homosexual, Anti-pornography, Anti-Healthcare, Anti-Poverty, andPro-War, Pro-Nationalst, Pro-Industrial Military Complex, Pro-Biggest
Military,Pro-Daeth Penalty,Pro-Business, Your
persecption of politcal "left and right" doesn't add up.Obama ran Left-of-Center,and speaks leaning left, but when rubber
hits the road -- he's almost Dead-Center.
You know, if you were born, raised, and live your life in the sewer, you may not
appreciate fresh clean air and water when you see it. This is how you need to
look at leftists. The live in the "sewer" and don't know any
better. Yeah some are a little deeper then others, so yes, you do have your
extremists, by the fact remains, they are all still leftists. For
those who don't believe in media bias, there is no hope for you. You are so
far past delusional that you will never wake up. O'Reilly proved it AGAIN
the other night, and the numbers don't lie. Most of the media caries
democrat water for free, they don't even bother to charge for it. The only think you need to know about Citizen's United is free
speech. Yeah leftists hate it when their opponents get equal time, but that
doesn't make it wrong. Remember again...Free Speech!
LDS Liberal- so it sounds like you are saying that it is better to be
pro-illegal immigration, as Ted Cruz supports Legal immigration. He also
supports healthcare, just not government control. Do you also believe it is
better to be pro-pornography, pro-Communist, pro-poverty, I mean who wants
poverty? Why is it better to be opposed to business and to having a military
that guarantees our freedoms better. Would being like France when Germany ran
through be better? War is sometimes necessary as President Gordon B Hinckley
stated in April Conference of 2003, so why should we be completely against it?
Our country would not exist without the Revolution. Also, Cruz is not
against academics, just those that use their positions to push a political
agenda which many do, and they force it down the throats of students, punishing
those who challenge them. The truth is, the media and college
professors vote heavily Democrat. In the Media it runs about 9-1, so how is that
not Liberal? The Left needs to quit lying about the media and academic bias that
they know exists. They want diversity, but not if it leads to more conservative
@ Kora/PatriotHow do you know how media and college professors vote?
I wasn't aware that votes were made public! Cool! I want to
know how my bishop voted! Or how about my next door neighbor! What
website did you use to obtain this information? Tell me!Btw, if
it's really true that the most educated vote democrat, isn't that
telling you something? Shouldn't we desire to become well educated? And if
that leads us to abandon the failed policies of the GOP, isn't that a good
thing? I don't think we can survive another round of repub government
expansion, wars, bailouts, and tax cuts for the rich.
LDS Liberal: "Obama ran Left-of-Center, and speaks leaning left, but when
rubber hits the road -- he's almost Dead-Center."That would
be extremely comical if so many on the far-left didn't actually believe
that. He might be a bit farther right than marxist or Bill Ayers, but not by a
whole lot.Obama is as far left of center as Ted Cruse is to the
right. You can claim all day that he is moderate, that the media is unbiased,
and the colleges don't lean left too - but that is just plain denial!
Those who want power will do whatever is required to gain power. Blaming the
"right" is a false concept. Unions have funneled money into elections
for decades. Liberal newspapers have backed liberal candidates for years - all
that we have to do is to search in vain for ANY newspaper in America that vetted
Barack Obama before he was elected. They ignored every hint of scandal - the
"help" he received to purchase his home in Chicago, his association with
Bill Aryers, his wife's job at $300,000 per year that was not given to
anyone else after Obama was elected. There are those who talk about
Gadianton, but they ignore the corruption in the people whom they support. The letter writer is correct. The Supreme Court ruling gives moderate
America a voice - which is something that the liberals in America cannot accept.
They're all for "free speech" as long as they're the only ones
"A second source of 'free' campaign support comes from the
overwhelming majority of tax-supported universities."???
When the author can prove that I have the same access of influence politically
speaking of course and my communication is equally considered then come back to
me that Citizens United is a fair deal. Face it folks, it's legalized
corruption. Period. Using Soros and Koch in the same breath is not factually
based. By the way, there were no bigger cheerleaders to the invasion of Iraq
than your so called liberal media which is owned almost exclusively by those who
benefit from Citizens United so please no more hacking.
Personally I do not care if there is a balance between Soros and Koch or if the
balance slips left or right. The point is that the only way MY speech gets
amplified enough to be heard is if I swear my allegiance to one of them and gain
access to their pocketbook.No.This reminds me of the
"balance of terror" concept. That we are somehow safe if we live in a
world where the big weapons are locked, loaded, and pointing at each other so
that there will be "mutually assured destruction". That is not peace
and the same situation with the parties and money is not speech for you and for
me.Money is influence. Influence that is not due to argument and
speech but to being beholden. We need a better way. One that does not hinge on
our speech being mingled with that of "our" billionaire.
@Mike RichardsIt doesn't matter if people are liberal, conservative
or inbetween, this ruling gives more power to the powerful(Koch, Soros, Buffet,
ya I got all 3 side in there for ya) and less power to the people who
didn't have much power to begin with.
Anyone can contribute to a political campaign. Many of us do. We POOL our
money. We do the same thing when we buy stock. How many people would tell us
that we can't invest in a 401K stock market fund because that gives too
much power to the stock market. Nonsense. When people spend money, it is their
own money. That money does not belong to the government. That money is not the
property of the opposing political party. That money belongs to the individual.
If he or she feels strongly about something, they have every right, as
Americans, to spend their money as they desire. They have the right of free
speech. Only those who wish to oppress freedom would argue.
@Mike RichardsBecause the stock market isn't the same thing as the
POTUS. I don't think the government should tell Warren Buffet, or the Koch
bros how to invest their money in the stock market, that is a series of private
individuals, and private companies, and the business they want to do is between
two private parties. The problem I have is that by allowing unlimited donations,
you allow certain people to buy the government, and use it as a tool against
private enterprise that they don't like(The Koch Bros and Soro's are
GREAT examples of this) That is why I disagree with this, by giving a small
group of ultra wealthy people the right to unlimited political donations, you
take the right to have a responsive government away from the rest of us.
This is one of the most ridiculous letters I've seen in a long, long time.
Does anyone really expect us to believe that Labor Unions have not funneled
billions of dollars into liberal campaigns since at least FDR, if not earlier?
Then, to add further insult, the liberals tried to stop free speech in America
by telling you and me that we could not donate money to political campaigns.
Liberals allowed Soros to funnel untold amounts of money to Obama and Obama told
us that most of that money was $1 and $2 donations from millions of people.
Sure, and Obama also told us that he didn't know Bill Ayers and that the
IRS did not target Republican groups. The Supreme Court stopped the
unbalanced nonsense. ANYBODY who wants to contribute can contribute. ANYBODY
who wants to express his ideas, just like the Constitution promises, can put his
money where his mouth is.That bothers those who thought that they
could silence Republicans and Conservatives. That's alright. Even
Republicans and Conservatives have equal protection under the law to spend their
own money and voice their opinion -no matter how mad that makes liberals.
So now mike Richards is comparing buying free speech, legislation, and congress
is just like the same as buying stock?Wow...
You have to be kidding me. How does Citizens United help the middle, especially
those of us who don't have billions of dollars to spend? Sadly, more
people need to be educated about the process, the court case, and our
Political money is tainted money.
