Frankly, objective in-depth reporting is dead in the country in all but a few
instances. Instead, we have print, television, radio and internet
media that cater to a specific mentality (be that liberal or conservative) .
"Americans trust the news they get on the Internet more than the news they
hear on television"That would be fine except for the fact that
fake-news sources proliferate on the Internet.Right Wing Propaganda
outlets, especially, convey a tremendous amount of misinformation to the
So, Americans no longer trust the News? And this a bad thing? I think, IMHO,
this means the American people are not the sheep our Corporate Masters believe
we are. Whether we get our news from the Leftist Fox News or the Reactionary
Alphabet Network News channels this Gallup Poll survey's take away is that
the American People are not buying what the Corpoarte opinion makers are
selling. Funny that this topic came up today. Premiering in Los
Angeles also today, is a Swedish Movie called, The Last Sentence, about Swedish
Newspaper Editor Torgny Segerstedt, who for twelve years beginning in 1933 wrote
unkind and prescient criticisms about Adolf Hitler, much to the chagrin of King
Gustave V and his Prime Minister. They told him to lay off Adolf. Torgny was
quoted as saying That not telling the truth (about Adolf) "not only made you
a hostage to a lie, but its promoter".
It started with Dan Rather and then Americans began to realize that the media
published what they wanted us to hear which was usually favorable to the
Democrats and not what was news. Today MSNBC morphs into NBC News and the other
major outlets are little different. The difficult issues of the day, the
deficit, Fast and Furious, the IRS scandal, fudged employment figures, VA
fabrications, etc. are replaced by a special report on the Begonia Society and
seriously flawed politicians such as Joe Biden receive a free pass.
Give me a break GaryO, there are just as many wacky propaganda outlets on the
It is quite clear that the national news, as a whole, does not hold all
politicians equally accountable for their actions. This does a great diservice
to Americans and makes them a partner in corruption.
Increasingly, people get information from sources that are trusted to align with
their own thinking. We're not looking for stories about the
news as much as we seek reinforcement of our own preconceived thinking. Blogs,
news sources that cater to particular persuasions, etc.An
acquaintance agrees with a lot of conservatives that traditional media is the
"lamestream media", and has turned to blogs as source of "truth"
that most media sources avoid, as part of a conspiracy. In fact,
this acquaintance has been trying to alert others that the reason there has not
been an armed insurrection to overthrow the current government is because jet
contrails contain mind control chemicals to pacify the population. The "proof" of the truth in the jet contrails story is the mainstream
media won't alert the public about this. They're complicit. That's just one story of many. A pretty tough nut to crack, impervious
to alternate points of view or other information sources. A real patriot can
resist being influenced by sources that are "part of the problem".
This is an age old problem. From Franklin and his highly biased reporting
promoting an independent nation, through to Hughes in the last decade, all media
outlets have an opinion or a bias. If you saw the things published about FDR
before the war, you would have thought he was a black man accused of being born
in Africa. The only thing new under the sun here is that everyone and anyone
can now be a publisher. My daily reading routing includes everything
from Financial Times, the Wall Street Journal, Fox News online edition, to the
BBC, France24 and Russian Times. I figure between the about 10 to 15 I read
daily somewhere in there is balance and something resembling the truth. If you are not reading a multiplicity of sources from across the spectrum, you
are getting a tainted view.
I’ve long believed that if a non-ideological Rupert Murdoch type ever
decided to start a network relentlessly dedicated to no-spin (too bad that
moniker has already been taken – becoming the most ironic byline in the
history of media) fact based news free of these false “debates” that
give both sides equal time as if both are equal in facts, they would become a
