So why are food prices rising so much? The farmers got their subsidy
handouts passed. What, have they learned from the oil barons that you
can make a lot more money if you just raise prices and come up with lame
excuses?I wish our government would look into this. We
shouldn't be gouged because a handful of richies want to enrich themselves
further. I want my country back. There's just so much greed out there.
So now we have an economic reason, in addition to health, spiritual, and
environmental reasons, to use meat "sparingly . . . only in times of winter,
or of cold, or famine."
@The Real MaverickThe reason Repubs have ramped up the "welfare
queen" rhetoric in the past few years is to divert attention away from their
own interests in government welfare, including farming and military welfare.
Meanwhile the ones buying the rhetoric, most DN readers, are feeling the
punishment of inconsistent food prices and low productivity government. We are a
peculiar people indeed.
@ Real MaverickI agree, where is the government? Aren't they
supposed to be looking out for us regular folks? Not all of us are Mitt Romney
and can build mansions and garage elevators. Groceries for most of us are major
expenses!Where's the media? You have no reported that prices
are rising. Now find out why. Keep digging until you get to the bottom of it.
Produce is better for you.
Does anyone here know why the prices are going up? I haven't heard any
"Beef keeps me stable in these times of poverty, and I will pay for beef and
cut down on produce."Linda English======== So much living and keeping the "Word of Wisdom".Why a cup
of tea keeps you out of the Temple, while being morbidly obese, drinking
diet coke, and eating large amounts of meat, from a religous
perspective - is something I still can not make amends with...I live it, but still struggle with it.
"...beef keeps me stable...". I keep trying to process the meaning of
the statement. Can somebody explain?
'beef keeps me stable' is a bizarre statement.
A lot of the reason beef, lamb, and pork prices are higher is that producers are
diverting corn crops to make ethanol. But its' not the ONLY reason.
Another reason is shipping costs, i.e. - when the costs of fuel go up, delivery
costs go up.BTW - I am completely and totally AGAINST any subsidies
to either agricultural or agri-chem companies. Problem is- BOTH political
parties take huge "donations" (bribes)from the mega-large agri-chem
companies. I don't see that ending anytime soon.BTW -
interestingly, lamb prices haven't rise as large of a percentage as either
beef or pork, could that be that lamb use less "feedlot" type
conditions, and are therefore less subject to commercial feed variances?
Climate issues aside maybe we can bypass the higher food prices by sending a
check directly to the corporate agribusinesses. At least it would comfort you.
Food prices are rising because Obama won't re-invade Iraq. Isn't
that the next article we can expect? Also, how does this apply to the
article a few weeks about about population?
Excellent point Ernest.Remember how a few weeks ago the dnews wrote
how overpopulation isn't a threat? If we cannot even feed our
own right now, how will we do so in the future?
Follow the Word of Wisdom that is less Meat and more produce. So many benefits
for us all better health less cancer, more food available to feed everyone, less
pollution. Heavenly Father gave us the map the pity is we turned it up side
Who are you going to believe? Published government figures on inflation, or
your lying eyes when you go to the store and look at the prices?
