I think he really overcooked his story. If he wasn't involved in
activities that warranted federal investigation, none of this would ever have
happened. I have a hard time believing anything he says.Tough for
you, Mark.Stop breaking the law.
"Look away from there!...Look over here! Over here!" he says. This is classic "changing the story" tactic. But the story
will revert to Shurtleff himself in due time, when the investigation concludes
with an indictment, charges or no action. Until then, it appears Mr.
Shurtleff will parade his minor daughter, and her innocence, in front of cameras
in public proceedings as a pretty distraction from the real issues.
Just being treated like many alleged criminals. Wonder how many other families
had the same treatment when Shurtleff was in control of their lives? Don't
like the treatment? Change the policies and procedures (some of which I
imagined he approved of).
"'They violated the law, that's what they did,' Shurtleff
said outside the hearing."Methinks Mr. Shurtleff is confused
about who broke the law. The reason they entered your house with a warrant,
Mark, is because YOU broke the law.
He does business with the likes of Jeremy Johnson-even hangs out at his country
club villa and racks up a tab he doesn't cover--assists Swallow in creating
false business entities through which to channel illegal campaign funds---has a
FIXER--What AG does THAT?As much as I don't care for Swallow,
he hasn't said word ONE about any of this.Shurtleff continues to draw
attention to himself, and none of it is good. Were I his lawyer--I would
have advise him to keep quiet and stay the heck away from any media.
I wonder if this had been our daughter if we wouldn't have reacted the same
No sympathy from me.Shurtleff's a lawyer. NO DOUBT he would
have filed a lawsuit by now had the warrant been served improperly. Doubtful
there's ANYTHING to what he says.Just trying to manipulate both
the media and the legislature - as always.
I'm having a hard time feeling sorry for a guy who presumably has condoned
and given approval for LEAs to use the very same extreme and unnecessary tactics
he is decrying. That said, the good thing may be that something could actually
be done to reign in these Rambo wannabe cops who prey on those not fortunate
enough to have any power to make them answer for their crimes against human
I'm sorry but Mr. Shurtleff gets no sympathy from here. These same type of
tactics are used across the board by police agencies nationwide. Standard
operating procedures. Funny how when the shoe is on the other foot that people
like him cry the loudest.
Sounds like another Clive Bundy story complaining about a heavy handed goverment
out of control.
How does Mr Shurtleff know this at all? How can he say the police used
"Dirty Harry" tactics, when he wasn't even there when his house was
Isn't "Schadenfreude for Shurtleff" an old song title?
Two points: 1. The DNews keeps publishing the same picture of the outside of the
house. None of the people in the picture are wearing body armor and only one is
uniformed (presumably carrying a weapon). 2. In an era when every traffic stop
is on camera, can it be that there are not video of the incident?
What a complete failure on the part of law enforcement. No matter whether
Shurtleff is guilty, these kind of tactics are completely unnecessary. Please
find a more appropriate use for your guns.
When in doubt, claim to be a victim.
I really doubt that anyone pointed a gun at his daughter. The
officers were not expecting armed resistance in the house, so why would they
point a gun at his daughter? It's not like they were busting
into a crack house or something.I agree with sharphooks. Shurtleff
overcooked his story, and it may be a little too overcooked . . . Unsuitable
for consumption. It doesn't ring true at all.
Isn't it standard operating procedure when entering a house, that police
have people put their hands up and point their guns at them not knowing what
they would do? Did he expect the FBI to ring the doorbell and ask her nicely?
That may have worked in this case. I am sure she is a nice girl, but
unfortunately police can't distinguish between good and bad. Everyone
needs to be treated the same for the protection of the police. Now, there is an
argument to be had about the over-militarization of our local police, but that
is for a different time.
How many homes were invaded just like he said his was when he was attorney
general. I imagine that some of them were innocent just like he's claiming
he is but then some were also guilty. Isn't it the GOP that constantly
calls for law enforcement, zero tolerance, three strikes your out, tougher laws
on criminals, etc. etc. He was part of the government for a long time that not
only put up and tolerated this kind of behavior but actually put it in place.
Sob, sob. Sniffle, sniffle. Whimper, whimper. Whine, whine. Now
let's get back to the investigation to find out what really happened
between Shurtleff, Swallow, Johnson and all the others in this mess.
I'm sympathetic to Shurtleff's complaint. Was it really necessary to
train a firearm and laser on an unarmed 17 year old girl? Necessary to leave his
house trashed? This wasn't a warrant served on a meth lab. It was served
on the former Attorney General. Are such aggressive (dare I say "police
state") tactics always necessary? Just because you can, doesn't mean
you should. Seems law enforcement could learn from that little vignette of
I'm sorry if Shurtleff's daughter felt uncomfortable but he should
have thought about that before he conducted himself so questionably. You can
play with fire only so long before you...and those around you...get burned.
The country is going to democrat v. republican, conservative v. liberal. There
is little truth or insight to most posters; they are only concerned with what
you are labeled. Sad state of affairs this country and it a direct
result of the divisive politics in Washington. Ever since Obama started out with
his race baiting and using it as an excuse for his failures, the nation is
tearing apart. And, just when I thought we provided him with the vote of just
more than the minority vote, he could bring this nation together after years of
war, and 9/11. Thought wrong, as did many others, who are now very
dissatisfied with their choice.
It is certainly funny. If you had three years to get rid of evidence,
wouldn't you do so? This is much ado about nothing since if there was
evidence it has to be gone. I doubt that Swallow and Shurtleff are so naive
that they would leave evidence and hard drives laying around. The
tactics used are yet another story. If it were a parent doing what they did to
these children there would be an immediate arrest and outcry. I guess it depends
on which laws a person or group is following.
