    You need to leave the multiplex if you want to avoid the superheroes, cartoon princesses, explosions, and fart jokes. There is plenty of thoughtful independent film out there that does not strive for lowest common denominator gags or the 14-25 demographic. Wes Anderson's "Grand Budapest Hotel" is right up there with any of the 1964 titles Hicks mentions (well, maybe not "Becket" and I'm really fond of "Marnie"). There's often a tendency to conflate box office with quality and forget the low budget indies with narrower appeal that will never rake in millions. The gems don't always get marketed to the masses
