Apparently this writer has insider information that apparently reveals that the President apparently ordered a stand down.

Apparently I missed this apparent news on Fox news. My apparent trusted news source of course.

There was no "stand down" order given. That only happened on Fox News, not in the real world.

"We are a WARLIKE PEOPLE...easily distracted from our assignment of preparing for the coming of the Lord. When enemies rise up, we commit vast resources to the fabrication of gods of stone and steel — ships, planes, missiles, fortifications — and depend on them for protection and deliverance. When threatened, we become anti-enemy instead of pro-kingdom of God; we train a man in the art of war and call him a patriot, thus, in the manner of Satan's counterfeit of true patriotism, perverting the Savior's teaching [to love your enemies]."

—LDS Church President Spencer W. Kimball

Utahns overwhelmingly voted twice for Bush/Cheney.

    That is the disgrace!

I guess the problem here is this is based on a fictional recounting of what happened in Libya, versus what the record says really happened. So sure, make up a version of history, and it can say anything you want. I think what is a shame is the need to stretch history to justify hate.

Lets be really clear.... there were no US soldiers on the ground in Libya ready to assist, but were told not to. None. We had US embassy security, but suggesting they should left their post to secure a CIA compound in a distant and not controlled city is a foolish notion. Tripoli is over 1,000 kilometers away, The nearest combat troops were more than 400 miles away in Italy.

I find it odd how we mourn the loss of two US CIA contractors, and yet just yesterday 5 military people die in a friendly fire incident... and that is not top of mind. Surely its not just because of political value is it?

  • ECR Burke, VA

Great example of a straw man argument. Make a statement about someone and assume it's true, then attack that person based on that assumption.

Here's the problem. A report by Republicans on the Armed Services Committee recently declared: "There was no 'stand down' order issued to US military personnel in Tripoli who sought to join the fight in Benghazi." A bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee report released in January said: "The Committee has reviewed the allegations that US personnel, including in the IC (Intelligence Community) or DOD, prevented the mounting of any military relief effort during the attacks, but the Committee has not found any of these allegations to be substantiated."

I realize that any amount of evidence or testimony by those who know the truth will never be enough to change someone's mind who is focused on criticizing the president. But it would be nice if we could all base our arguments, tirades or hatred on truth, rather than folly.

Obama "apparently" did this and that? It's clear from the umpteen investigations into Benghazi that Obama "actually" did not do what this writer says he "apparently" did. More artificial facts from the AM radio brains...

  • FreedomFighter41 Provo, UT

    The letter writer wrote:

"This president has shown weakness in directing our military men and women."

Who directed our military to the capture and killing of the world's #1 criminal, Osama Bin Laden? Apparently the letter writer doesn't know what the definition of weakness is.

"I heard this on talk radio and saw it on Fox News. I now read it in the DNews as well."

Wasn't it said, "If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it."? I think fox hopes that if they repeat a lie so many times eventually people will believe it. Examples may include how tax increases in the rich hurt job creation, min wage increases will cost jobs, global warming is a hoax, and that the President ordered a stand down.

"Doesn't this letter get published once a week?"

Yes. Shameful, isn't it? And then we wonder why civil dialog in this state is so poor? Why so many are lashing out at Utah establishments? It really has become silly, our one party theocracy where 1 party can do no right and the other can do no wrong.

Read the article in the Deseret News, May 6, 2014, "Rep. Jason Chaffetz accuses White House of hiding Benghazi documents", then check on Jay Carney, Susan Rice and Hillary Clinton.

The Administration "fired" Jay Carney, the press secretary who fed the press what the President wanted us to "know".

Susan Rice was fired from her job as United States Ambassador to the U.N.

Hillary Clinton was fired from her job as Secretary of State.

Three high ranking officials were thrown under the bus because of Benghazi. Documents that would show exactly what happened have been labled "top secret" and will be sealed for about 25 years.

Meanwhile, the families of those four brave men killed in the attack wait for answers. It looks like they'll wait for a while longer. So much for the "most transparent" administration in U.S. history.

Hillary Clinton was fired from her job as Secretary of State

    ===========

Jay Carney resigned...approached the President, not the other way around. Press Secretary is a very demanding job. Sounds like he wants to spend more time with his family.

Susan Rice was not fired. In fact, she was given a job as National Security Advisor. Sounds like someone "failed up"

Hillary Clinton was not fired. She too resigned. Most cabinet members only serve one term; Colin Powell, Condolezza Rice. What she did was not out of the ordinary at all. And certainly if she were fired, she would not be considered the Democratic frontrunner for 2016 Presidential campaign, and the current favorite to win the Presidency.

The BO apologists are out in force again today.

Rather than refute what the letter says, most just openly mock the author despite the DN’s supposed rules for comments, march out their favorite “talk radio, Fox news” boogeymen, and otherwise get all in a tizzy.

Yep, BO is right, we don’t leave them behind. We often wait until they are dead and have had their naked bodies desecrated and paraded around town, like Carter did in Iran, then we beg and plead to get the corpses back.

    Freedom fighter41
Who directed the capture and killing of OBL?
    The navy seals.

BO gave OBL 6 months to know we were on to him before he finally acquiesced and let the seals take him out, and now we have a Pakistani doctor in a Pakistani prison for 33 years because BO would not support him. And you wonder why we get little support there anymore.

See Mike, it is falsifications like this that just has me wondering what has happened to "conservatives". Why must things be fictionalized to make a point... why aren't the facts as they are enough to debate a point? I suppose by your standards Colin Powell was fired as well..

Listen, I think the administration did a poor job with this latest prisoner swap. They just did a poor job. No doubt. They have also done a poor job of explaining or commitment to the fighting in Syria, which has now spread over into Iraq. We need to understand why or why we have not done more to contain that fighting from spreading. Obviously what we have done over the last 6 months hasn't worked.

But to claim people were fired.... that is just silly. They may have fallen out of favor, like Rumsfield, but they were not fire by any honest recounting of history.

It seems that there are still some Obama worshippers who still believe that any day they'll receive that $2,500 check promised by Obama as the YEARLY savings per family because of Obamacare. They probably think that they can keep their doctor, their hospital and their insurance plan. Can they truthfully cite one promise made by Obama that is absolutely true?

When people are fired in Obama's administration, Obama calls it a "resignation". The V.A. administrator was fired, but Obama called it a resignation. Obama is trying to fire Chuck Hagel by demanding his resignation, but Mr. Hagel is refusing to resign.

Believe what you want. As Obama knows, if you tell a lie loud enough and often enough, some of the guillible will believe the lie. In the meantime, Obama tries to deflect public opinion by firing top people. A forced resignation is being fired.

May I suggest to those that "Believe" that the Benghazi has already been investigated and found no blame on the Administration of Obama. Please do what you ask the Republicans to do... STOP listening to the likes of CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC, NPR....... Because as much as you want to vilify FoxNews... these stations are in the same boat as FoxNews when it comes to the Liberal side of issues.... They feed you what you want to hear..

Please do some of your own research, through various sources, and you will find that there was some things that was done that was hidden from the public.

Is Obama the one personally that made the call? Probably Not, but like in all things BUSH, he is the President, it happened on his watch, and HE IS the one that is held accountable for it.

So who is responsible for the lack of Security for the Ambassador to Libya when he asked for additional help?

Hillary just stated the following: "These five guys are not a threat to the United States", says Clinton. "They are a threat to the safety and security of Afghanistan and Pakistan."
    That is unacceptable, and untrue.

Why does he leave the doctor who helped catch Bin Laden behind? Why does he leave the American pastor in jail in Iran? The wife of an American sentenced to death for being Christian.

He made a "great deal" with Iran, who is now boasting that their rockets can hit one of our military bases.

They had the "reset" with Russia, and yet look at the Ukraine and Crimea. He sanctioned ~20 Russians, while they laughed about it.

He apologizes when one pastor threatens to burn a Koran, but is silent as Christians are killed in Muslim countries. Why? Are Christian lives less important than the hurt feelings of Muslims?

Let's be clear -- the letter is nonsense on the face of it -- pure and utter nonsense!
Our people were dead a very short time after the attack began. Perhaps the Ambassador took too big a risk by going to Bengazi, considering the meager security the republicans in Congress funded for him, but we do not blame the dead.

Of course when we hear junk, made up news about this President, we think of Fox.

You are so busy belittling the critics of this letter, that you totally forget truth and fairness.

You show utter contempt for the twice-elected President of the United States by your flippant nickname, and by defending the shockingly ridiculous idea that he told the defenders to stand down and let the Ambassador be killed.

Sorry folks. It does not matter if a technical "stand down" order was given. If the commander in chief does not order a rescue attempt to try to help in the situation, then it is a defacto "stand down". You can't win this one, or most any other in defense of Obama. Truth is, he left behind Americans in Libya with no help, and then made a big play on this one guy in Afghanistan. It was clearly an attempt to get positive PR, then rightfully blew up in his face. Obama is on a losing streak comparable to the Chicago Cubs. Apt considering that is where he is from.

"If the commander in chief does not order a rescue attempt to try to help in the situation, then it is a defacto "stand down"

    Hog wash.

The Commander in Chief does not direct activities on the field. None of our presidents have done that. Very few have the operational experience to make a call like that - that is why we have a Pentagon, with people who are trained to make those kind of strategic and tactical decisions. Presidents don't make real time military decisions.

" Truth is, he left behind Americans in Libya with no help". Lets be real clear here. We had no troops there in Libya. None. It was a country mid revolution. It was a dangerous place, and still is. This radio show talking head level of analysis discredits just about any well thinking conservative. The only ones who need better ratings now and positive PR are those in the Media - so they can sell more advertising time.

Then I guess by your logic it was not President Obama who ordered the killing of OBL. Nor the rescue of Captain Phillips. Nor the rescue of the couple held captive in Somalia. Gee, I always thought those were some of Obama few positive achievements. Guess you don't. As for not having any military help in Libya, what about the Marine detachment that is assigned to every embassy? You think they are only trained to stand around and look good in dress blues? They are Marines trained to fight and protect the embassy if necessary. Some of them could have been sent, especially to protect their ambassador. And since this thing went on for hours as it was, Obama could not have knows how long it was going to last. He could have ordered a dispatch of military support in the event it was going on for some time. He sent nothing. Period.

It is clear from these and other writings that there are times and circumstances when nations are justified, in fact have an obligation, to fight for family, for liberty, and against tyranny, threat, and oppression. When all is said and done, we of this Church are people of peace. We are followers of our Redeemer, the Lord Jesus Christ, who was the Prince of Peace. But even He said, “Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.” (Matthew 10:34).
