Parents should be frustrated but what is being proposeed by radical parent
behind the allegations are unfounded. One irresponsible parent with a special
needs child who cannot comprehend or understand parental inquisition is creating
unfounded accusations. The bus cameras are not intended to monitor
drivers credibility or actions and with the level of background investigations
that should be done is enough security to trust the drivers moving children from
home to schools and back.I am familiar with the special needs buses
and find they are not such a good deal for the students or the parents or the
schools. I think they should stop using buses for special needs children and
make parents provide the transportaion of their children and it would eliminate
dozens of drivers, buses, and the safety of their children and up to 4 hour bus
rides everyday. Parental convenience is no reason to endanger or put undo stress
on low IQ and handicapped children. Parents are responsible for
their children and special needs children don't have the ability to
recognize when they are being assaulted or abused and can easily be persuaded by
parents to falsify inquisitions about other people.
I think waiting for the school administration to step up and take responsibility
is a big mistake. Everyone with special needs children should demand and
immedicate IEP and make a requirement that the school place an aide on any
school bus their child rides on. Secondly, bring a civil suit against the
school. Get depositions with the answers to questions of who hired the bus
driver? Was a background check done? If a background check was done and
ignored, that person should be out the door. Let the criminal case proceed,
every parent should be at every court hearing, every parent should be at the
sentencing demanding that he be registered as a sex offender and as a condition
of his probation (because I don't believe he will serve any time) he not be
School boards are just another layer of protection for the district office.
Where is the transparency in government?
Two-deep adult presence should be the across-the-board policy in our schools.
Gone are the days when one adult can be trusted, whether in the classroom or on
a school bus. Yes, it will cost more, but we've had enough of the sexual
exploitation of children in and around our public schools.
Sounds great pops but will the public pony up for our children or just provide
the righteous indignation?My2Cents: You might have a point but
schools and districts have no say in the matter. Special education falls under
the federal government and districts must provide the service.
How about a policy change where parents accompany their child to school? Ride
the bus with your child or drive them there yourself.
Not sure what that obviously upset parent thinks ought to be publicly discussed
here. The fact is that the School District has legal considerations whether the
accused is innocent or guilty and accusation, even arrest is not proof of guilt.
Should this prove to be true and a crime or the subject of a civil suit speaking
out of turn has bad consequences. Even if it were true and the guy did that, it
does not necessarily follow that the District is responsible even if it will
probably need to investigate properly and establish the facts in its own
defense. Two deep did not protect the truly awful witch hunt that McMartin
became. There should be a proper investigation; and this does not include
sharing information of no probative value such as rumor and inaccurate things,
or fomenting knee jerk emotional responses.
@My2Cents - you sound like that you work for UTA who wants to stop Paratransit
for disabled people. Sorry sir it won't happen. It is up to parents if they
want to take their kids to school on there own which should be fine.
@My2Cents - You are allowed your own opinion. But by that logic, we could
eliminate all bus traffic by just having every parent bus their own kids. Having
handicap transport is one of those things that is a right, not a privilege.
Special Needs parents have WAY to much on their plate already, and to add busing
their kids to school each day is ridiculous. There needs to be 2
adults on EVERY Special Needs bus. Many of these children are unable to say
anything about what is going on. IEPs are not being met on many occasions. Even
for medical emergencies alone there should be an assistant to help out. There is
really NO reason not to have 2 adults on these buses.P.S. I have a
SN child who is non-verbal so I know exactly what these parents go through on a
