Let's ask Mitt if he'll contribute his management skills, at no cost,
for another Olympic bid?Hmmm . . . I can't imagine why any sane
person living on the Wasatch front would want to put up with that spectacle
But with all this inevitable global warming, there just won't be enough
snow or ice anywhere in 2022. Just ask any Democrat. We might as well forget
Why not? It will have been twenty years since the last time. We can do it!
Mitt Romney was the spokesmodel who came in on the last days to "save the
games" (his words, not most others.) He then proceeded to take credit for
the games when he really had nothing to do with them. Meanwhile the group that
put the bid together and did all the work for years and years didn't
receive an ounce of credit, as Mitt soaked up the spotlight, it was disgusting.
Where's the down side? After hosting one of the most successful
Winter Olympics ever and ending with enough funding in place to maintain the
facilities through 2018, lets get MItt on a plane for Switzerland.Don't we still host the world championships every other year? It seamed
like half of the world chose to train in Park City in the years leading up to
Sochi. Sochi also set the bar pretty low for snow.We could have the
new SLC airport done by then as well.
Let's not. The Olympics are clearly a scam, based on the corruption Putin
was able to get away with in his games. Maybe if they get back to being about
athletic competition we should consider it, but while it's just another way
for the committee to get even more wealthy, let's just pass on it.
I do not favor hosting the Olympics in Salt Lake City and environs. Period. It
would take a lot of public funds to build venues that few locals would use after
the bacchanal is over. The break even as a goal is generous, and any money made
would go to developers not the public treasury. Please, there must be
some other poor deserving naieve country that needs to have the experience of
Olympic City/Country (fill in the year). We had our moment in the
sun. Let's bask in the memories and drop this idea like a very bad habit.
Let's bring them back. Even with all the scandal surrounding the SLC games
they showed what we can do and the world class sites we have.
Strider303, the only public funds required for the last Olympics were federal
funds for security because the last Olympics came a few months after 9/11.
Nothing else to build or run the games came from public funds.
"Let's ask Mitt if he'll contribute his management skills, at no
cost, for another Olympic bid?"Of course Mitt could, and he
probably would. If we asked Obama to manage the Olympics, we would go another $3
trillion in debt and have 5 scandals by the 2nd week.
