Too bad resuming the series didn't work out this year, but glad to hear
that it's a work in progress to continue soon. Good luck this year to the
Aggies. If it's another subpar year, how long until Stew's seat starts
warming? I'm interested in hearing USU fans' thoughts on this.
Sorry, the whole "us going to the Mwc is like Utah going to the PAC 12"
is laughable. How many times is stu going to keep saying that? The difference is that not a single aggie fan over the past decade would
have admitted they were a step below any team in the Mwc. Utah fans know we
weren't pac 12 quality the past decade. Aggie basketball fans
have bragged about how great their ball program is for over a decade. And now they want to say "it's like Utah going to the PAC 12"Lol!
Oh Chris! While I do partially agree with the sentiment you're trying to
get across, the fact of the matter is that the Mountain West IS much tougher
than the previous leagues the Aggies were in i.e. Big West, WAC.Our
athletes from last year were recruited to play in the WAC, a dying conference
circa 2012. Getting the Mountain West invite was a huge lifeline that we needed,
but we still have some work to do in terms of recruiting better athletes.Stew is a terrific X's and O's kind of Coach, but his
recruiting over the last few years has been lacking. He needs to pick it up if
we are to get into contention for winning the league.
Amazing! Chris B admits Utah isn't PAC 12 quality! I am marking it down.
It is the most honest assessment ever. Now if they can just get a winning
Sambone,While I agree the Mwc is better than the WAC, the fact of
matter is that aggies HAVE insisted they were as good as any program in Utah and
as good as any in the Mwc. No doubt Stu would have claimed the same
thing. Are aggies now backtracking and admitting they were wrong
about the quality of their program for the past decade?Sambone?Again, all utes acknowledge we haven't been as good as hardly any
PAC 12 programs the last decade.
The other funny thing about aggie fans trying to compare this to Utah going to
play with the big boys is its admitting usu is again a step below Utah and PAC
12 basketball since we stepped up and you filled our place. Always
a step below!Or will aggie fans now say they are good enough for the
PAC 12 like they've been saying they were as good as any Mwc team. Just remember you're now eating crow on that claim!Always the little brother aggies.
What is not mentioned in earlier comments is that over the last decade the MWC
has more often been rated superior to the prestigious pac as a conference in
@ Chris B,I for one realize USU will always be a little brother to the U.
How would you expect us to be equal when our population base, financial
resources, and endowments are a fraction of the U's? It's like
expecting SUU to be the equal of USU. What is amazing is that we can be
competitive and once in a while beat the big brother. I think we have, at
present, better coaching and remarkably equal or better athletes. It won't
last forever but it is fun to be an AGGIE. I personally hope the U does well in
the PAC 12 but I think they will probably always be a little brother to USC.
@tinplater"but I think they will probably always be a little
brother to USC."Agreed.
@StGtoSLC - As a long time Aggie fan I would have to say "In Stu We
Trust". I think he will have at least one more year probably two to get us
competitive in the MWC, before the seat gets warm. It was a shock to see that we
weren't competitive with the best teams in the MWC. It was definitely a
step up for us. But again Stu has the coaching ability and the knowledge to
recruit the right players and develop the right program to be competitive. Next
year maybe not, but the next year definitely. I hear more grumblings about the
transfers than the losses. Danny Berger was an inspirational player because of
his near death experience, but was he on the same level competitively as the MWC
players, probably not. So hopefully Stu will get the players to be competitive
and get us in the hunt. And as far as Chris B's comments all I can say is,
Get Competitive in the PAC 10+2 before you talk down to any program in the
state, the U is a great institution, try to reflect that in your comments.
Anybody who makes fun of the fact that USU is in the MWC, a "lesser"
conference than the PAC, has forgotten how good the WAC and the MWC was for our
basketball program. I, for one, will always root for USU, as long
as they are not playing Utah.CougOrUte..Naah:"the U
is a great institution, try to reflect that in your comments." I could not
have said that better myself.Tinplater:Utah may be the
little brother to USC right now in a lot of programs - but basketball (the
subject of this article) is definitely NOT one of them. USC has not been, nor
is currently, Utah's big brother in basketball.Good luck to
Stew and the Aggies! I hope you do very well this year, and in the future, in
the MWC - a conference with a proud basketball history and reputation.Go Utes! Go Aggies!Onward and Upward!
"the U is a great institution, try to reflect that in your comments."GREAT comment.
So transparent tinplater.
Stang0 I don't know what you are talking about, but I shall assume your use
of the word "transparent" means with clarity. Thanks.
