Willie Grayeyes,Thank you for writing this article. DN, Thank you for
publishing it. This article articulates why public lands are so important.
Here is a group who respects our public lands and followed the appropriate
protocol to access the land. Contrast their actions with that of Phil Lyman and
others who want to protest the federal agency’s authority to control the
public land. I sincerely hope BLM will pursue all means through the legal
system to hold these lawbreakers accountable. The land belongs to everyone. We
should not live by mob rule and the citizens of Utah, especially, should be
keenly aware of the consequence of mob rule given the history behind the arrival
of its citizens and formation of the state.
Willie,If you know your history... then you know that the people
inhabiting these cliff dwellings abandoned them 2 thousand years before
Europeans arrived. You pretend European settlers killed them and
left the cliff dwellings empty... that's historically and factually untrue.
They left WAY before Europeans even knew about this land. Now if
you're talking about other settlements (not the cliff dwellings pictured in
the article)... you have a good point. But don't pretend the
Anasazi and the people inhabiting places like recapture canyon were killed or
driven out by European settlers. They were gone WAY before Europeans even knew
about America. Can't blame them for that. But you can blame
our Government for other dealings with the inhabitants of these lands
nobody's proud of today... I was going to call them the "Original
Inhabitants" of these lands, but they aren't the original inhabitants.
The Anisazi and other cultures were there first, and driven out or left LONG
before Europeans came.
