Hey coach Littlewood are you going to find some relief pitching or just wait
until the birds come and cover you with leafs and they recycle you back the
Dixie? How many games are you going to lose in the last inning? This is just
sickening. And this isn't just because you lost to Utah tonight but
it's been all year! I thought I'd never say this but,. where the heck
is Vance Law?No great speed, average fielding, now power, shaky
starting pitching and relief pitching that couldn't beat many high school
teams! Whitney, Lopez and on certain days Caldwell are the only D1 players on
your roster. Get it together!
Isn't it sad to see the records of both BYU and Utah in baseball? As an
avid baseball fan its depressing to see our two best schools not do very well in
baseball. Why? The coaches? Overall Programs? Just being in the state of Utah
where its cold? Any ideas?
With their Left Fielder (started 2014 with a very hot bat) recovering from major
knee surgery, Center Fielder (one of the best 2013 offensive weapons and able to
cover tons of ground in the outfield) hobbling on one leg, Third Basemen (most
promising 2013 Freshman and defensive gem) recovering from a broken collar bone,
and Middle Infielder/Third Basemen (tied for second in 2014 batting average) out
with stress fractures in his back…..the Utah Utes figure a way to beat BYU
two times in a row. The team is resilient and proves that playing great
competition every week has significant benefits. I would have loved to see this
team play healthy.
street11"Isn't it sad to see the records of both BYU and

players look like they just won the world series. It's because it was for
Just like football!Just like basketball!Just like
gymnastics! You guys do have rugby though, LOL.
So one bad team beat another bad team. I am so glad that I don't care about
baseball. Congrats to the Utes for winning their world series.
Find out what cold/rainy weather successful teams are doing and replicate it.For example...Washington... unlike its cousins to the south
who seem to have deep pockets... has done some things that both BYU and UTAH
would do well to copy.
SamwiseEagle Mountain, UT"So one bad team beat another bad
team. I am so glad that I don't care about baseball. Congrats to the Utes
for winning their world series."Sam...they are 2-2 vs. BYU this
year. So I don't think we can grant them a "win" for "their
world series."Of all people Colin Cowherd of ESPN educated me on
the fact that for the outdoor sports schools in GA, FL, LA, MS, AL, AR, TX, NM,
AZ, CA and maybe OR would always have a significant advantage in recruiting the
best talent. I think that general principle is obvious to anyone who can deal
with reality. That is why Ute basketball under your Coach k MIGHT
have a chance to do some good things with that program (possibly the same for
gymnastics). However, reality will dictate that football and baseball will
NEVER dominate in the PAC or anywhere else.
old but not stupid: Look at some of the most successful football programs of all
time: Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State and Nebraska. Those are some
of the coldest places in America. Not many kids really want to play on a 120
degree field in Arizona or in the heat and humidity of the deep south. People
make the assumption that "oh I've been to Arizona in December it's
nice there kids must want to play there." Yeah, try going down to the field
in September and playing ball in full pads. It's not so nice then.
Saw the game on the PAC-12 Network. Unbelievable! I guess this is why people
love/hate baseball. It really isn't over until its over (as Yogi used to
say). It really is a great story for someone whose struggled all year get the
walk-off single, though. Still you kind of feel sorry for BYU to lose a
heart-breaker like that.
street11--"Why? The coaches? Overall Programs? Just being in the
state of Utah where its cold? Any ideas?"If U can locate it,
Matthew Piper recently detailed this very thing....Additionally, BallJunkie
outlined above the reason we haven't been as competitive this season as
last [yes, even in defeat]....Finally, we play in our nation's toughest
conference, top-to-bottom....We're inherently disadvantaged and will
struggle to compete in the upper-echelon of our standings....UW hasn't ever
been anything prior to this season, OSU only a handful of years ago surfaced on
the map and UO only recently brought their program back, so it's not as if
these three schools have historically been juggernauts....They also aren't
buried in snow 'til mid-March, when we play our first home game of the
season. We can compete, in time, yet we'll never be elite in
this sport....We do have a HC who's widely respected w/in coaching-circles,
but transitioning in this sport will last many years and will never reach the
point of routinely competing w/the ASUs/UCLAs of the world....This is reality.
Street11: Both Utah and BYU could be great in baseball. The problems as I see
there are A.) facilities, there really is no on campus training rooms, skill
centers, or lounges for the baseball teams and B.) Utah isn't a baseball
state the way a lot of places back East are. Places in the mid-west and East
coast baseball is huge in a way that we almost can't understand so the
talent pools are bigger and the commitments are more regular.
Happy for my Utes! Any time a team is struggling a win over your rival can lift
your spirits. Go Utes!
Nice win guys!Go Utes!
Mormon Ute,byu is not our rival. Colorado is
@ Chris B,Utah's all time record against Colorado in Baseball
is 0 - 0...... They do not have a baseball team.
@ Chris BBYU is still Utah's rival, and that is not about to
Rockarolla, have to agree with you: WE MISS VANCE!A
Chris B"BYU is not our rival. Colorado is..."Says the BYU obsessed troll who has never even posted on a Colorado blog.Despite their denials, the only way that Utah fans can prove that BYU is
no longer their rival, is to disappear completely from BYU blogs, and to stop
comparing BYU to Utah anywhere they post...as if that's ever
going to happen. The truth is, what's happening in Provo with a
team that the Utes won't even play again until 2016, is of exponentially
bigger interest to the kids on the hill, than their season-ending pillow fight
in the rockies opponent.
Chris B,The conference cannot create a rivalry just by saying it is
one. If the Pac 12 wanted to say with it's previous pattern of keeping
traditional geographical rivals together, they should have found a way to bring
BYU in along with Utah. Since they failed in doing that, they have tried to
create a rivalry where there isn't one and it likely will never happen.
BYU is our rival and always will be.
Mormon Ute,We didn't invite byu to the Pac 12 because they are
not worthy of an being added, its that simple. Its not the sunday issue, byu
just isn't as great of a program as their fans think. The Pac 12 made the
smart decision by adding Utah and we've made the right decision by not
inviting byu. No power conference team is rivals with any non-power
conference team other than Notre dame.San Diego state think USC and
UCLA are rivals, like byu does with Utah. Again, no power conference team is
rivals with mid-majors.Can you name me a single one in the nation
other than power conference quality notre dame?NONE!
Chris B,When the Pac 10 was expanding, they didn't consult Utah
on who else to invite. So don't pretend Utah had anything to do with BYU
not getting invited. Had they (the Pac 10) schools wanted to, they would have
invited BYU. I don't think the Sunday play issue was the biggest issue.
There are a host of other reasons, but their play on the field and in other
sports certainly didn't keep them out. They have a stronger tradition of
success in many of the Olympic sports that Utah has and the Pac 12 places a high
value on those. Your hyperbola cannot change the fact that they have a strong
sports program. I firmly believe BYU has strong enough sports programs to get in
to a major conference.Changing conferences cannot create rivalries
and it can only destroy them, if the teams stop playing. The Pac 10 made a
mistake in not inviting BYU and compromised their own prior ideal as the
conference of natural rivals. They made the decision to do that when their raid
of the Big 12 failed and they had to find a partner for Colorado, but that
doesn't make us rivals.
@ Chris B...How about Clemson (ACC) and South Carolina (SEC) or
Georgia (SEC) Georgia Tech (ACC)or Florida (SEC) Florida State (ACC).You need to broaden your scope. Many schools have very strong rivalries
outside of their conference.
Chris,You are also wrong about no power conference teams being
rivals with non-power conference. Guess who has been Colorado's natural
rival for sever decades? Colorado State. They play every year.
