So much for all those "experts" that said he would only go until the fourth or fifth round. Time now for KVN and Ziggy to wreak havoc in the NFL. It is going to be fun to watch the Lions this year.

Lions are my favorite team now! Kyle and Ziggy will be awesome together!

P.S. Two straight years BYU gets a guy picked before utah. Should continue in the future.

33 years after watching Jim McMahon lead BYU to the Miracle Bowl win versus SMU, I was privileged to watch Kyle Van Noy single-handedly destroy SDSU in the same stadium.

It's amazing to see KVN and Ziggy reunited in Detroit - two of my all-time favorite and most respected BYU players!

How can this be? I thought Trevor Riley was the best prospect in the state? Don't they know that Trevor plays for the 12th best team in the Pac 10+2 while Kyle plays a bunch of nobodies like Notre Dame, Texas, and Wisconsin? The NFL coaches have no idea what they're doing!

    Congratulations KVN!

Through two rounds: No Oregon, Oklahoma, Georgia, Texas, Wisconsin or Utah players selected.

Another interesting tidbit - since 2009, no B1G players have been selected in the Top 10 picks.

    BYU 1
    B1G 0

Wow, almost done with the third round and not a Ute has been chosen. How is that PAC 10+ 2 membership treating U? I guess it does pay to be the ESPN darlings and on TV every week as opposed to being the PAC 10 +2 doormats and seeing little to no coverage. Question, where do you go to get seen by the scouts and get drafted? Not the mighty Utes and their beloved PAC 10+ 2 membership. Hey a mid major in their eyes had as many players taken in the first round as the Conference of Champions.

We are extremely pleased for you KVN. Now we expect great things out of you and your old buddy, playing together again. The Lions scored in getting you, and moved picks to ensure they did so. That speaks volumes of what they think of you and expect of you. You can do it, and we support you. Now go do it, and enjoy.

    All Y fans!

Kyle Van Noy has never beaten Utah in his college career. He even dubbed last year's Utah-BYU game as his "Super Bowl" and still lost.

Oh well, I guess BYU fans are satisfied with moral victories now.

  • BlackDiamond Provo, UT

We know he lost Utah coz we all saw the game. But I wouldn't measure his success against Utah.

KVN played in FOUR bowl games.

How many bowl games did Utah 2013 seniors play in.

All always, BYU obsessed Utah fans would rather beat BYU, than play in a bowl game.

    May 9, 2014 10:53 p.m.

    Tom in CA,
KVN's dreams just came true and the first thing you do is take staggering, weak and wild swing at Utah. lol.
Like I said, good on Kyle, good on Ziggy and good on bronco but neither player ever beat Utah and bronco lost to Utah the last 4 years in a row so how does that poke U in the eye? What advantage did independence bring to any of them. How do their successes put U in a bad light?

  • Funny/witty screen name Orem, UT
    May 9, 2014 11:25 p.m.

Van Noy is going to have a great career in the NFL and is starting out by being the highest drafted player from utah this year!
Fun fact, North Dakota State had a player drafted before U. How does that happen?

Here's a Utah fan that is very happy for Kyle Van Noy. He's a great athlete, and sounds like a quality young man. He made the most of his college experience.

First off CONGRATULATIONS to KVN for what is sure to be an amazing journey and exciting career!

Ekute, for all of yours, CB's and every other Ute blogger's blustering about the U's elite membership in the PAC, what has that got U?

If the end goal was to be accepted into a Top Tier Conference, play week-in/week-out against amazingly talented opponents (& mostly lose), and spend lots of money on incredible athletic facilities, then U WIN. No arguments there.

But, if your goal was to be relevant on the National stage by virtue of playing anyone/anywhere, playing in Bowl games on national television every year, have players who are consistently recognized and nominated for various National Awards, have players drafted early and often into the NFL who are still relevant while playing and retired, and are recognized for their positive influences on others, then the Y WINS.

Stop bloating up when some player or team from the Y excels above the U, and accept the fact that the U has not and never will come in first every time there is a head-to-head comparison or competition.

  • Eddie Syracuse, UT
    May 10, 2014 7:23 a.m.

    Ekute,

U are as obsessed with BYU as they come. The u fans would much rather beat BYU than succeed in their mighty conference. Witness the u record in football the last three years. Are u looking forward to your two wins this season and the wonderful couch potato bowl? KVN along with the others have graduated from a top university, played on a winning team, added trophies to a huge trophy case and grew spiritually, not to even mention the true friendships made at one of the happiest universities in the nation! Plus he found his true love that will always show him that there are more important things in life than a sport.

Too bad Detroit hired a retread coach. Caldwell is a good guy, good asst. coach, but not a head coach as was shown in Minn. It will be after the Caldwell era that Van Noy and Ansah will chase their super bowl dreams.

"What advantage did independence bring to any of them."?

National exposure throughout every season as one of ESPN's media darlings.

"How do their successes put U in a bad light?"

Anytime BYU excels in anything, and having the highest NFL draft pick in the state for the 2nd year in a row is a big deal, it brings out the bitter jealousy from our little brothers on the hill.

It's also an indication that no matter how shiny new facilities they build on the hill, it's still possible to be more successful playing at BYU.

  • jarka-rus Layton, Utah

Mark it down, I GUARANTEE that Taysom Hill will be a higher draft pick then any Ute QB the mighty Pac QB Travis Wilson included.

  • Surf is Up Miami, FL
    May 10, 2014 11:22 a.m.

Wow Elmer Fudd, that was a classic example of typically flawed logic. Do you really think that the utes are the measuring-stick by which all individual D1 athletes are ranked and judged?

The athlete must be evaluated by how his team did, as a team, against the utes?

If I were to borrow that line of thinking then no utes should be drafted. After all they haven't beaten any of the marquis teams of the PAC since joining the conference. Possibly not one of those teams ever.

  • ekute Layton, UT
    May 10, 2014 11:28 a.m.

    Eddie,
The Utes have proven that they can consistantly beat byu, however, I wouldn't say that "The u fans would much rather beat BYU than succeed in their mighty conference.". I didn't come here to rag on Kyle or byu, just to question those that proclaimed a victory over Utah. I'll accept your comment and Jealous U's as valid responses. Again, good on Kyle and luck to Justin. Kieth from the Utes has already been drafted and I expect Trevor to get a call at any moment.

Re: Buffs are better than you

KVN proclaimed that the game against Utah was his Super Bowl. KVN is 0-4 against Utah. You never saw a Utah fan proclaim that Trevor Riley was the best prospect in the state. Again, a statement made up by a BYU fan and reported as a fact.

KVN is a very good player. Enjoy the fact that he was drafted in the second round and leave Utah out of it.

I live in the far north and am somewhat of a Vikings and Packer fan. Never really cared for Detroit, but that is going to change! Won't be too sad if Detroit beats either team because it means another win for BYU! Detroit is loading up on defense. Wow, this should be a better team this year. Cannot wait to see Ansah, Van Noy, and Suh hunt quarterback! Man this will be fun.

  • Black & White SLC, UT
    May 12, 2014 11:57 a.m.

    Really CB?

You are finally now ready to acknowledge that the (lowly) USU Aggies of the (dismal) MWC is now above par with the (elitist) Utes of the PAC 10+2 given that the USU picks in total were higher than the U?

Spin the numbers any way you want and the U still does not finish first...

    Draft Pick & Avg. Pick...
    BYU: KVN (#40); Avg Pick = 40
    USU: MA (#110) & NL (#133); Avg Pick = 122
    Utah: KMcG (#116) & TR (#233); Avg. Pick = 175

Total Number of players Drafted or with Deals (NOT Mini-Camps)...
USU = 8 (MA, NL, JD, TL, DJT, AJP, TG-W, JDeM)
Utah = 6 (KMcG, TR, KW, AD, TP, JM)
BYU = 5 (KVN, CH, SH, DS, EM)

    Sounds about right.
