It's a real shame that he couldn't use some of the great story lines
from the EU. But the final 3 episodes 7, 8, and 9 should have been done 20 years
That parody keeps running through my head: "Talk nerdy to me"...
Techpubs, they will have a lot more than 3 more episodes. Think Avengers series
but Star Wars. I am fine with this decision and will still enjoy these newly
branded Legacy books just fine. I look forward to seeing where this goes from
This is ridiculous. Shadows of the Empire was expanded universe, so he is
contradicting himself. He took the Outrider, Dash Rendar's ship, and put it
in Star Wars Episode IV in Mos Eisley in the new version, so obviously he has
some cleaning up to do.
@DarthRendarEU is Non-canonical. That doesn't mean characters and
ships, etc can't exist in the canonical universe. See the Boba Fett example
cited in the article.
Makes me wonder about the new Star Wars: Rebels series. The article said that
Star Wars: The Clone Wars was considered canonical, and the new series is being
produced by Lucasfilm so I'm guess it too falls under that umbrella...?
This is news? Who didn't actually know this stuff wasn't canonical?
The non-canonical stuff is pretty terrible anyway. I read the Thrawn trilogy
and "I, Jedi", which are supposed to be the cream of the crop and they
were pretty terrible.
@ Russ:I was referring to the fact that way back in the beginning around
1974 George Lucas was committing himself to producing 3 Star Wars trilogies. He
started with Episode 4 which confused many people at the time because they
thought it was Episode 1 due to it being the first movie to hit the theaters.
The original idea was to release one every few years with the last coming out by
1998 or thereabouts. However, after The Return of The Jedi everything went
dormant as Mr. Lucas kind of lost his passion for staying on schedule. But I agree with you that this could become more than Episodes 7-9 if there
are good movies produced. And I also will continue to enjoy the EU books.
I actually like "Splinter of the Mind's Eye" more than I like
episodes 5 and 6. They should have just made a movie out of that and called it
quits. It was written before Lucas came up with the idea of Vader being
Luke's father, and it makes a lot more sense than the mess we ended up
@Shawnm750 -- Yeah, the new "Star Wars: Rebels" series is being
considered part of the canon. So, in other words, that, the six movies, and
"Star Wars: The Clone Wars" are the only bits of official history. As other people have said, everything else isn't necessarily being
scrapped entirely. It's just not official YET -- until it appears in one of
the movies or TV series. So, by that logic, I guess that would make Dash
Rendar's ship -- although not necessarily Dash Rendar himself -- official.
Think of the Expanded Universe like comic books to the comic book movies: the
filmmakers will undoubtedly turn to all the EU books, etc. for ideas and
probably even characters, but they're not bound to follow anything.
So, The Thrawn Trilogy is out?Great, now I have to wait to find out
what is going on in the next three movies. :(
