Not sure it's necessary but good. Everyone gets a TV channel these days.
I am an atheist. We already have a channel. It is called Cinemax. I'll be
here all week, try the veal.
Wow! I didn't realize atheists were so evangelical.
Will it be channel 0?
I don''t believe I will watch it.
Won't last a week. Who wants to listen to a group of people who believe
that man is the center of the universe. We can see that already at the daily
briefings from the White House and Obama's press conferences.
Hopefully they will air some of the great debates involving William Lane Craig
and others. Or not . . . this could be bad PR.In any event, it is
still amusing to me that atheism is supposed to be a default, psychological
state shared by babies, cats, and rocks (i.e., a lack of belief, not a positive
statement of belief), and yet its adherents are increasingly missions minded.
What does it matter to any of you believers?
@FatherOfFourActually, I thought the atheist TV channel was called
"In any event, it is still amusing to me that atheism is supposed to be a
default, psychological state...and yet its adherents are increasingly missions
minded."Yes, by all means, let it be known that people have a
choice. Let it be known that the religion we can't remember being without
was imposed upon us when we were too young to do anything about it. Look at it.
Question it. Learn about other religions. Learn about living without a belief
in a transcendent being. And then decide - for the first time - if
religion is truly something you want for yourself. If it is, great. At least
you've freely chosen it instead of having it imposed upon you. At least
you can then say your life is your own.IMO (and based on what I know
of history), independent thinkers will always be a minority. And we will always
ruffle the feathers of those who aren't hardwired this way. But we
don't have to accept their fear-based characterizations. It's within
our rights to push back.Welcome to America.
What few friends I've had that are atheist's, had something tragic
happen in their life. So they had too put the blame on somebody, they choose
religion. Others I've been associated with had either had a sad outlook on
life, or were just mean people. That includes those the news channels as guest.
Who are able to put a false mask of being pleasent on their faces, until they
get spun up by an opposing few.
@ Karen and the other atheistsI guess we just can't do anything
right. We state that there is no higher power and people like Charles
automatically assume that means we believe man is the center of the universe.
Actually Charles there is no center of the universe. Atheists actually
understand that we are just one species out of millions on this tiny planet and
totally insignificant to the actual universe itself. We eschew
religion and for some reason this makes people angry with us, I've never
really understood why. Is it because we aren't making ourselves part of the
collective? We simply share our ideas and suddenly the religious say "see,
see you're just like a religion because you evangelize". Uh, not quite.
Now if we shared these ideas of ours and then told people they would be punished
for all eternity if they didn't believe these ideas that would be
I really can't believe that the atheists on this board are complaining
about a little sarcasm and criticism about an atheist evangelical TV station.
We believers have endured your constant negativity and derision of all things
related to religion since it's inception. Goose, meet gander. Pot, meet
I've seen the water in Hoover Dam. I know that to supply's water and
electricity to a lot of people. If I where them I'd start to pray.
@Coach Biff – “We believers have endured your constant negativity
and derision of all things related to religion since it's
inception.”On what planet? Here on planet Earth,
for most of our history, any questioning of religious authority has typically
been followed by utterances like “no, don’t put so much wood on the
fire. This agent of the devil should suffer a slow burning death.”The slightly less gruesome fact is that it has long been taboo to
question religion and only relatively recently is society growing weary of
giving religion a pass when it says and does offensive and outrageous things
(i.e., we are beginning to hold them to the same standard as everyone else). But somehow in your parallel universe this no doubt looks like
persecution…@brokenclay – “Hopefully they will air
some of the great debates involving William Lane Craig and others. Or not . . .
this could be bad PR.”Only if you belief he wins all his
debate… something I’ve rarely witnessed.
A Scientist,I'm going to quote your post here every time I see
you post on LDS-related articles that have nothing to do with you. You've
been doing that for a while. Have a change of heart? Or do you simply think
it's okay for anti-religious people to take interest in religious affairs
but not the other way around? That may seem a bit cold. I'm not
trying to be offensive, simply logical. You have criticized religious people for
doing something you literally and openly do every day. That's just a bit
confusing to me.
I know it. I Live it. I Love it.Knock yourself out.And
my answer to your "I know you are but what am I" question will be:I am married to an active Mormon and live among Mormons and attend
Mormon meetings and my wife pays Mormon tithing from our income.I
have skin in the game.Believers have no skin in the game regarding
Could it be that the force of Atheism may just be the ism that unites and saves
The World from itself. Could be, it certainly can't do much worse than
what organized religion has done.
Everyone needs an arena. Have the atheists had an arena?? Christians and other
religious group have CHURCH. The Atheists and other similar groups use the
university system and do their thing in the name of EDUCATION. GO figure.
RE:A ScientistI think that as parents who have had to watch as their
children fall away from the teachings of their youth and end up as atheist that
we have some "skin in the game"
@Tyler D,You have completely misconstrued my comments. I meant
these boards, not an overarching history of religion.
A Scientist,So you're entitled to criticize others because your
wife associates with them. But we're not entitled to criticize you because
you don't know anything about our families and who we are?Without the gospel, people are lost. Posts on here are only evidence of that.
Quit fighting the truth and do something good for a change. Otherwise,
complaining gets you no where but the same place you are... plus with a
complaint.Griping doesn't make us happy, blessings and doing
what's right does.
