The recruitment of Jakob Poltl to the University of Utah is a huge story and certainly merits more than being buried in other stories on the Ute page.

That said, congratulations to Jakob and welcome to a basketball program that is making some noise in the elite Pac-12 Conference of Champions.

    Go Utes!

Poeltl is a welcome addition to the team. He was one of the best players in Austria's highest level of competition, and his size and athleticism alone make him a very intriguing prospect. The interesting thing with it, though, is this: the team has 13 scholarships to give. As it now stands, the returning scholarship players are:

    1-Dallin Bachynski
    2-Marko Kovacevic
    3-Jordan Loveridge
    4-Kenneth Ogbe
    5-Jeremy Olsen
    6-Princeton Onwas
    7-Brandon Taylor
    8-Dakarai Tucker
    9-Delon Wright
    10-Kyle Kuzma

    Plus the recruits already signed:

    11-Brekkott Chapman
    12-Chris Reyes
    13-Isaiah Wright

Based on some cryptic social media posts, I have some speculation as to who may be making room for another incoming player, but it's just that--speculation--so I won't share it here. Will be interesting to see play out this summer, though.

But Jakob sounds like a great kid with a lot of upside on the court, and I'm happy to welcome him to my alma mater.

Welcome aboard, you're going to love the campus, the students, and being in the prestigious Pac 12 conference.

You better find a second name for Coach "k" to dump if the Utes continue to recruit (and are successful) Idy Diallo from CA.

Meanwhile I'll feel sorry for any athlete who "bought the snake oil" pitch from Utah. In the business world "bail and switch" can be a criminal offense.
