If it were anyone but the Lakers, I would say no. But I hate the Lakers!! I
hate them. Lose. Get a better pick and beat them next year. Did I say I hate
the Lakers? Well, I do!
I say lose on purpose, I assure you the Lakers are with their 7 straight losses.
Loss to the Lakers = a win in the lottery. Please lose Jazz. I've been
saying this all year, the Jazz have to rebuild through the draft, they
can't get a superstar in a trade or through free agency. This is
Why is this even a debate? BE STRATEGIC.Why do the San Antonio
Spurs have championships, and the Jazz don't?1- The Spurs
tanked for Timmy.2- Gregg Popovich pulls his starters, even leaves
them home on occasion, so they will be rested for the playoffs, while Sloan and
the Jazz ran their guys into the ground just in time for the playoffs.
That's why the Jazz lost in 1999. Sloan pushed the old legs of the old
Jazz and Pop rested his team to prep for the playoffs. The Spurs think
strategically. The Jazz think -- occasionally.Tank it, Jazz. Is
your pride worth so much?
Sloan would always say he had to play the starters because it's "what
the fans paid their money to see." But I never met one who looks back
and says "Wow I sure am glad Sloan played the starters so I could see them
during the regular season even though it meant being dead for the
playoffs."The memory of how Golden State tanked 3 years ago, getting
their pick back from the Jazz is still offensive. It's a fine line to walk
and keep the organization's integrity. We have a coach whose job is to win
here. Take one of the league's deepest teams last year and win just enough
games to miss the playoffs and this year play to win just enough games to take
us out of drafting a top 5 pick. I suppose there is a moral victory in there
somewhere in being the 6th worst rather than the 4th worst. Here's
what I say. We have guys like Ian Clark and Rudy Gobert who haven't played
most of the year. Fans need to know: Why not play them starters minutes to see
what they are capable of?
YES. YES. YES.Lose, lose, lose. What is the point of
having a bad season, after bad season, if the Lakers can be winning
championships, then tank for a year and still get to draft better players than
you?I am considering completely giving up on the NBA if the Lakers
get a better pick than the Jazz this year.
They won't need to do it intentionally. They are perfectly capable of
Tank it.BTW, I think Peavler meant something different. He said:"They currently sit at No. 15 and No. 16 in the West,
respectfully."Maybe "respectively", as there is nothing
"respectful" about being 15 and 16 in the west.
The jazz are content to have bad season after bad season. One top 5 pick is not
going to make a huge difference in this team next year. They will still have
average players all around the board, and some below average players.
Are you saying the Jazz have NOT been intentionally losing this entire season?
This is going to be a hilarious game. Reminiscent of the boxing match in
Sergeant Bilko. Both teams trying to take a dive. I hope the NBA sanctions
I know this would never happen, but what if the Jazz and Lakers both started
intentionally scoring on the wrong hoop, and they started playing to give the
other team points? Then both teams would actually try, and whoever
"wins" would get another loss on the schedule.I think the
Jazz should intentionally lose, but I also think the NBA needs to restructure
things so that there is no incentive whatsoever to tank. I can't think of a
solution that doesn't make something else unfair (like giving the best team
the #1 pick and go in descending order). That would just make the best teams
even better. While I can't think of a solution that solves it
perfectly, there needs to be a better way to go about doing this. However, until
the NBA does this, the Jazz need to take advantage of the opportunity for a
great pick and tank.
They should absolutely do this
It's what I have been saying for months, and what they have been doing all
of 2014. (BTW, the DUMBEST moves they made all year was WINNING against the Heat
and OKC! Dough!!)So, of course they should lose! Whether
on purpose, or not; whether they make it look like they tried to win or not; all
that matters is the final score for the last 4 games..., and they need to have
the LOWER NUMBER in order to get the HIGHER PICK.At this point
it's all about ODDS, and how to increase them, and then pick up Jabari
Sloan would never do this. He said he would always play starters for the paying
fans, even if on the road. But, I don't know any of the starters on
this team. This is not Sloan's team.
Each basketball game is based on the premise that the teams are trying to win.
If they are not trying to win, the whole thing is a charade - we might as well
be watching the Harlem Globetrotters! The integrity of professional
sports is on the line here, if, in fact, it has any integrity left.
What if we start winning and we just sit down on the court, fold our arms, and
get 5 second after 5 second calls all night? Or we just intentionally foul all
game, while the Lakers purposely air ball free throws in the most creative ways
they can. This is going to be one exciting game!
In these last 2 games it doesn't what the players want, or how they feel
about winning games. It's all about playing the odds right now. There are
really a very small percentage of gamblers that make money in Vegas. But they
win because they have the consistency to play the odds and stick to their plan.
Most gamblers don't have the moxie to do that and they just lose money. If
the Jazz lose there is still no guarantee that they will get a higher pick in
the lottery, and there is no guarantee that the best player that comes out of
the draft will be one of the top 3 picks. But, just like successful gamblers the
Jazz need to play the odds here. Management took some big chances letting all
the veterans go last year and it doesn't make sense to deviate from the
rebuilding program by trying to win some meaningless games at the end of the
season. Stick with the program Jazz. Lose these last 2 games, get the best pick
you can, and we will gradually rise again. But fans need to be patient!
As I write this, the Jazz are beating the Lakers easily by a comfortable margin.
The Celtics tanked tonight earlier and lost to the 76ers and with a Jazz win,
there will be a three way tie for the fourth position in the draft. If the
season ends that way, I can absolutely guarantee that in a coin flip, the Jazz
will end up in the sixth position with the fourth and fifth position between the
Lakers and Celtics. So much reward for their pride. When the lottery happens,
there may be some movement, but I would bet that the Jazz will fall even farther
in the draft. Thus, for pride, the Jazz franchise will commit suicide as far as
their future is concerned.
Wrong again said:"there is nothing "respectful" about
being 15 and 16 in the west."I beg to differ, seeing as how the
West only has 15 teams you've got to be pretty talented to make number 16.
Get on it Mr. Peavler!
This team is awful. I don't know if even the number 1 draft pick would
Losing is lame - the question is what do you want to lose? The game against the
Lakers or lose the lottery pick.Either way you lose and that is
