Why is this even an issue anymore? These backwards notions of negative health
consequences are ridiculous. Guess what? There are negative health risks, but
they are due to not receiving vaccines. Not only are parents risking their own
children's health, but they are risking the health of everyone else. An
infected person serves as a breeding ground for a virus that can mutate and then
infect people who had been immunized.
I get frustrated with parents not vaccinating their children. I am old enough
to remember many of these diseases before vaccines. Many of the side effects of
these diseases are not mild, they can be serious. As a health professional I
spent much of my career in public health working with populations here and
abroad. Parents that don't vaccinate wake up, you are playing with fire.
Also, vaccine are not just for children. Those of us that are adults need
your boosters and there are some newer vaccines you should get. For those in my
age group (seniors) there are vaccines that we really need that not only keep us
disease free longer but allow us to not come down with debillatating conditions
such as shingles.
Deliberately choosing not to vaccinate your children in this country is not
ignorance. It is certifiable stupidity.
It is amazing to me that people use the word "immunization" at all. They
are substituting immunization for the vaccination. And as @jsteve points out,
vaccinations don't really work at all. After all, there are always going to
be an influx of people who bring with them diseases, viruses and germs that are
new to a certain segment of the general population...old or young. The choice to
vaccinate is a very serious choice indeed. Vaccines have been known to cause
sickness, even death in many otherwise healthy infants. However, the long-term
ramifications are not a foregone conclusion either. The biggest objection that I
have is the peer-pressure, judgement and even hysteria that works up the pro
"immunization" crowd. To act as if a parent is a criminal for refusing
to vaccinate their precious young infant, is unconscionable. These decisions are
best made between the parents, their health-care provider and the Lord. The
crowd does not make it right or wrong.
@portlander is prime example of how one that is so tied up in the anti-vaccine
line of thought that they completely miss the point. Sure there are side
effects from vaccines, remotely even deaths. BUT there are even MORE and worse
side effects when we don't vaccinate. When you vaccinate a person you not
only protect that child/person but you are also protecting those around them who
because of other health problems or age can not get a vaccine. When you
don't vaccinate, say a child, and that child does not get the disease you
are reaping the result of herd immunity. High vaccination rates make it
difficult for a disease to spread. When enough people "opt out" we lose
that herd immunity advantage.I have lived and worked literally in both
worlds/situations and I really don't want to see the diseased world again.
I have held that dying baby. I have nursed that disease injured child. It is
not a pretty sight. Please open your eyes and heart and look at the real
research and not the popular and internet garbage that is passed around on
