It looks like the previsous point comment was removed. Nicely done DN.When it comes to QB, the more the merrier. The QB position has killed Utah the
last few years. I'm not sold on Wilson either. I hope a more consistent QB
emerges from the group.
From what I've seen and people I talk to inside the program, the team seems
to be coming together nicely. Whittingham mentioned from day 1 of joining the
Pac 12 that depth was the key issue separating mwc quality programs from pac 12
quality programs. That lack of depth at several positions hurt us the past few
years, with QB being the most obvious. We are much deeper across the
board now than perhaps we've ever been with again QB being the most
obvious. Should be a fun season and I think we will surprise some people.Go UTESOnward and upward to pac 12 glory
Guess it's who can lead the Utes to another 5-7 season?
@MurrayMike, Ya its a big challenge playing the hardest schedule in
the entire nation. Pretty different from what your team does. And don't
forget that Utah doesn't even have a gimme game against byU this year.
If Utah goes 5 and 7 again, it will make it all the more disappointing that we
didn't play BYU. That win has become almost automatic.
I know this is a QB article. But does anybody know how Moana Ofahengaue is
doing after his accident? I have never seen any updates as to his status. As for this article, it looks like the Utes have quite the QB battle
going on, but clearly as Whit said, Wilson has got to be the favorite. The good
news even if Wilson can't get cleared, which I hope he does. It looks like
the Utes got quite a cast of proven and up and coming QB's coming into the
mix.As a UCLA Bruin fan. Always great to see the conference getting
stronger. Go BRUINS!!! Good luck to the Utes, Wilson and Ofa!
It will be interesting to see where Kendall Thompson fits in. If Kendal should
win the starting spot, I would like to see Wilson redshirt this year. He would
be awesome as a 5th year senior in 3 years, with Manning and Hansen in the
wings.MurrayMike,Do you have a team?...Or are just hungry for
attention, trying to see how many likes you can get from the Ute's
I think it's about time we stop hearing the excuse of how hard the Pac 12
is. Yes, we all know how tough of a conference it is. But when you ask to be put
in a big boy conference then it's time to start acting like a big boy and
win some games. You asked for a hard conference and that is what you have. Stop
making excuses for the teams poor play and stop bashing BYU to make yourselves
feel better. With that said, I hope Utah does well and starts competing on a
yearly basis. I have no problem with any of Utah's athletic teams. I have a
problem with the fans using that excuse. Let's hope both schools do well
Does anyone know if Logan Stott is at Utah?
Yankees24I don't agree that playing a difficult schedule is the cause
for the last two disappointing seasons,(5-7 & 5-7) The fact that PAC 12 is a
stronger conference than the MWC and is acknowledged as one of the premier
conferences in America is true. It is a factor, but more of a factor is the
depth at the QB position. Really the coaches mishandling of the QB position and
not having an adequate backup was much more of a reason for the record and
disappointment felt by Ute fans.
People who are down on Travis Wilson need to be careful. Lets not forget at
least 1/3 of his interceptions were on passes that hit his receivers in the
hands and were picked off the tip. Football needs to change the way the assign
interceptions and any catchable ball that is picked needs to be tacked on the
UtahBruin:I'd heard that Ofahengaue's condition had
improved, and that he's back on his feet, and out of the hospital. His
prognosis is better than expected, but at present, he has not yet been cleared
medically to return to the field. I believe reports are that he's expected
to return by Fall camp though.
Yankees24:"I think it's about time we stop hearing the
excuse of how hard the Pac 12 is."That's because all you
know about is playing WAC football. Once you've finally played a Top-5
strength of schedule, and finished better than one OT game away from the
postseason, then tell us how a brutal schedule is no excuse."Yes, we all know how tough of a conference it is. But when you ask to be
put in a big boy conference then it's time to start acting like a big boy
and win some games."Utah has been in the Pac-12 for 3-yrs now,
and is 19-19 (.500) with a Sun Bowl win, and were 2 OT games shy of 2 postseason
bids. While that's not stellar, it ain't as bad as you're trying
to make it out to be. Yes, we asked to play big boy football, but moving up
from "small ball" to "big boy" takes some acclimation. Not that
you'd know, since you'd failed to do so yourselves, but trust us: it
does. Or trust TCU, who themselves went 11-14 (.440) since moving on up to the
Big 12. Both teams have owned you.
Naval Vet"Utah has been in the Pac-12 for 3-yrs now..."and has gotten worse every year - 4-5, 3-6, 2-7, 9-18 overall.Last year, you couldn't even beat lowly Washington State, a team that
lost to Colorado State in the New Mexico Bowl, to qualify for a bowl;and you barely slipped past Colorado(4-8) 24-17 in the Pillow Fight in the
Navel Vet"Or trust TCU, who themselves went 11-14 (.440) since
moving on up to the Big 12."How hard could the Big 12 be?BYU is 5-1 lifetime versus the two big dogs of the Big 12, Oklahoma and
Texas. Before their invite to the PAC, Utah fans were claiming Utah
could compete with anybody in the country. Now, all U have is whiny
excuses about the PAC being too tough, yet Bronco is 9-9 versus the PAC 12
teams, including wins over UCLA, Oregon, Washington, Oregon State, Washington
State, and Arizona.
Naval Vet - We aren't 19-19 in the Pac 12 in football. Where did you make
that up from?
royalcherrypicker:"Now, all U have is whiny excuses about the
PAC being too tough, yet Bronco is 9-9 versus the PAC 12 teams, including wins
over UCLA, Oregon, Washington, Oregon State, Washington State, and

didn't beat that year also. Name one Oregon team that the cougars beat
that the Utes didn't beat that year also. And ditto for UW, OSU, WSU, and
Ariz.Oh, you can't can you? Okay, then how about naming one of
those aforementioned teams that you beat that Utah also beat that year, where
you beat them by more points than Utah.Oh, you can't do that
either, can you?Bottom line: Utah has owned you. U > Y every
which way you look at it.As for your 5-1 lifetime record vs. OU and
UT -- how many of those teams finished with 9 or more wins? And last I checked,
not only are you 0-4 your last 4 games vs. Utah, you're also 0-4 your last
4 vs. TCU.
Christopher B:"We aren't 19-19 in the Pac 12 in football.
Where did you make that up from?"What's up with the straw
man? Couldn't make an argument without one? Well then I guess you're
tacitly accepting my point that Utah is in fact 19-19 (.500) since joining the
Pac-12, and that we've actually fared slightly better than your other big
brother -- TCU -- since elevating our program to a "big boy" league.
Naval Vet,Do you even watch your Utes? How do you figure they are
19-19 in the conference? 2011: 4-52012: 3-62013: 2-7Thanks for the laugh though. Btw, you didn't hear me saying the BYU would
be dominating a prestigious conference did you? All I said is that Utah
continually beats their chest about beating BYU but haven't done anything
since joining the Pac.
@ byu fans it gives me a good laugh when you bring up bronco's record
against the PAC now tell me how many of those teams had winning records? Now
compare that to Whits wins over PAC schools. Beating 0-12 Washington on a fluke
call was impressive byu fans
Kind of funny hearing all about these fine quarterbacks and all of the mighty
depth and only last week the headline was about 'thinning the
herd'.So which is it Ute fans, thinning the herd or having
It's obvious that the Utes will go undefeated this year and win the
national championship and Travis Wilson will the Heisman.
@Chamberlain "Last year, you couldn't even beat lowly Washington
State, a team that lost to Colorado State in the New Mexico Bowl"Hey, at least Washington State made it to a bowl game. I can't say the
same for Virginia, a team BYU lost to. Did you know that Virginia logged two
wins last season; BYU and the Virginia Military Institute.
@Murray19Yes, Logan Stott is at Utah.
Big 12, 2020,Nice of you to bring up the team you will not be playing the
next two seasons on a strictly Utah article!!! At least we BYU fans admit that
Utah is still a rival!!! Playing the hardest schedule in the country does not
mean much if you can't win more then you lose!!! I really like Coach Whitt
but this will be his last year at the helm if he does not finish better then 5-7
and go to a bowl game this year!!!Go Cougs!!! Rise Up!!!
Am I the only concerned that Manning and Cox can't seperate themselves from
Adam Schultz? If they aren't good enough to put themselves head and
shoulders above him I don't think we should be counting on them. I've
seen Schultz in action, and I for one hope he isn't the guy we are relying
on if the first stringer happens to get hurt again. There are 5 quarterbacks in
the state of Utah in high school I would rather turn the position over to then
@Reno Cougs Fan 68 "Playing the hardest schedule in the country does not
mean much if you can't win more then you lose"Same can be
said for BYU's non conference basketball schedule. Y fans said it was
brutal, and maybe it was, but BYU went 2-5 against their decent non-conference

just a nobody,Yes, I agree with you. I've seen other Utah fans
make similar comments on these threads. I think we all assumed that Schulz
would be 4 or 5 on the depth chart by now.
Navel, No response from where you got your 19-19 record for Utah? So in other
words, you just pulled that out of thin air? Because its not based in reality.
Why didn't you go ahead and just say we were 49-0 since joining
the Pac 12? That's as true as your claim is. Don't make things up
man, there's no need.
Christopher B:Utah has in fact gone 19-19 since joining the Pac-12.

We drop from a .500 record to a .486. That's still a lot better than the
cougars would have done given the same strength of schedule. And that's a
fact. Just look at our common opponents since 2011. We've beaten more
teams, and we've beaten them by a larger margin of victory. Edge: Utah.
Navel - Lets try not bragging about a .486 record. Its nothing to
brag about.I'm hardly content about a .486 record and its not
something to brag about. No big time program will brag about being
.486.So stop acting like we should be.
Naval VetTake out the three gimmies versus Big Sky teams, and the
Utes are 16-19 since joining the PAC, but more importantly, 9-18 in the
conference, with only one bowl game in three seasons.Bottom line,
the Utes are fulfilling their role as PAC 12 punching bags very well; you even
helped Washington State qualify for a bowl.
@Skywalker: I'll be the first to admit Utah has struggled
overall in the PAC. But tell me, how much of a punching bag did the Stanford
team look like when getting off the plane in Palo Alto last October?
