It won't matter what the offense looks like. We are going to destroy
Oregon. All year we have played a very unselfish brand of
basketball and I'm sure it will continue.
Do we really need to reinvent "One n Done". I wish it wasn't the
case but i think that's what i'll be this year.
Regardless of the outcome of the BYU-Oregon rematch, this has been a valuable
learning experience for a BYU team without a single senior and will help BYU
build the program for even greater success next season and in seasons to come.
We won Oregon and byu and that means Oregon will win byu because Oregon won byu
and that means we will win st mary because we won byu.Go Utes!
BYU will come into the game with the attitude that they almost beat Oregon at
Oregon and have a chance. Oregon will come into the game with the attitude that
they need to destroy BYU for making them look bad. Which do you
think will be the greater motivation?
The difference in this Oregon vs. BYU matchup will be the matchup defense of
Anson Winder. The Ducks' Jason Calliste came off the bench to
torch the Cougs for 31 points in their meeting in Eugene. There is NO Calliste
does this again, or any other Oregon player for that matter. Anson may not be a
GREAT defender, but he is the best BYU has, and as a result, Coach Rose will sic
him on the Ducks' best outside shooter.BYU wins in a mild upset
to live to play in the 2nd Round, likely against Wisconsin. Go Cougs!
It will be nice to watch Pac 12 Oregon show byu how the second place WCC team
stack up against Pac 12 teams.
@Ken and his ridiculous comment of "It will be nice to watch Pac 12 Oregon
show byu how the second place WCC team stack up against Pac 12 teams."- You are joking right! So let's look at this rationally.
Stanford and Oregon tied with three other teams for 3rd place in the vaunted
PAC12 and let's see how this went. The 2nd place WCC team beat one of the
3rd place PAC12 schools at their home and handily and lost to another team tied
for 3rd place in the vaunted PAC12 in overtime also at the PAC12 schools home.
So Oregon may win this game on a neutral court because they are a good team that
is playing well, but it has nothing to do with the PAC12 superiority complex.
Yes I know BYU lost to Utah on their court in a rout, Utah is a great team at
home for sure. Just get off the PAC12 high horse and cheer for your team in the
Ken,That will be nice to see. But PAC 12 teams have never been
BYU's achilles heel like they have been Utah's. BYU trounced
Washington by 20 last year to open up their Final Four NIT run, and has a better
winning percentage against PAC 12 teams in road games this year than Utah (1/3).
But this March Madness game is at a neutral site, which at least
gives BYU a fighting chance to avenge the overtime loss at Oregon in December.
If Carlino plays like he did in last year's NIT, BYU wins.I'm less in love with my school's conference than Ute fans are with
theirs, so I'm hoping for a Utah victory over St. Mary's in the NIT.
again with the Utes looking to conference affiliation to make themselves feel
better….can you imagine any BYU guy saying "I'll be nice to see
how Gonzaga can really show (fill in the blank) how WCC teams play?" This
infatuation with the U's conference is boardering on total insanity. Just
cash your PAC12 check and realize that no one cares or even is totally aware
that the U is in the PAC12 yet. You're lucky to be in the NIT.
You've done nothing significant and your program is a filler because you
are willing to play and lose on Sundays. …and build a stadium that
holds more than 45,000…if you are a football program of
significance…I've been looking for that U channel on
DirecTV….can you remind me where it is? NCAA calling…10 seed
waiting in a down year.
I'm expecting this will be another shootout like the first game. BYU and
Oregon are both offensive minded teams and neither play great defense.
It's all about which team gets hot. With Collinsworth out, we
need Carlino, Winder and Halford to step up. If Carlino is off, Oregon defense
will double Haws and it's game over. If Carlino is hotel, Haws will get
better looks and could go for 30+.
wapple, byu is currently 1-2 against the Pac 12. If byu loses, as is
most likely, they will end the season 1-3 against the Pac 12, with none of those
games even being played against the top 2 teams in the conference. 1-3 against
the Pac 12 says a lot about what #2 in the WCC means relative to other
@Cletus from Coalville:You are gooder.
RE: Ken"byu is currently 1-2 against the Pac 12..."Just to clarify, BYU is 1-2 ON THE ROAD against the PAC12 with the victory
being against the #3 team in the conference. I agree with you that that does
say a lot about what #2 in the WCC means relative to the PAC12 (how could mean
anything about other conferences?).No BYU fan will dispute that the
PAC12 is a far superior basketball conference to the WCC, we never have. Trolls
continue to make that point but it has no basis for argument (since no one is
disagreeing). What we will say is that the WCC is a pretty darn respectable
conference, having multiple teams dance every year for the last decade with
three teams most of those years. If you want to claim your team
(Utah) is a superior basketball program right now, that is another story. Go
@Wiscougarfan - You'd be incorrect if you think most fans fans don't
acknowledge the pac 12 is "far superior" as you say. Most byu fans
think the Pac 12 is only slightly better. I'm glad you see things how they
are though - that the Pac 12 is far superior to the WCC. With 3 times the
number of teams dancing, and I'll be that most years going forward its at
least twice as many teams dancing, hopefully byu fans remember that the pac 12
is "far superior"
WiscougarfanRiver Falls, WI.... because as Cougar fan points
out, the better team never wins whether it be basketball or football.
Ken, you have no evidence to back your claim that "Most byu fans think the
Pac 12 is only slightly better." Perhaps fans from other schools (e.g.
Utah) get that impression because many BYU fans (myself included) think it is
ridiculous that many Ute fans put much more stock in being included in the PAC12
than the actual success (or lack thereof) of their own school which has been a
conference doormat since day one in the PAC in almost all sports. 54-10, huh? You post my moniker but I have no idea what the point of your
post is supposed to be. If you are trying to insinuate that Utah has a superior
basketball team because they routed BYU in SLC, you'll have a hard time
getting support for that argument. It was a road game and BYU is dominant at
home so we don't know how they would have fared with the home court
advantage. Also BYU has shown (9 of the last 11?) dominance over Utah in
basketball lately, just as Utah has dominated BYU in football.
Ken,I speak only for myself but there is a whole lot of prideful,
arrogant, self righteous talk coming from some Utah fans since the U joined the
PAC12!!! I do not think Utah or the PAC12 is "Far Superior" then BYU or
the WCC!!! I am at least honest enough to still think of Utah as a rival and
that is why I read and comment on both BYU and Utah articles!!! I think it very
funny that a weak team (St. Mary's) from a weak conference (WCC) got a
higher seed and a home game against a mighty PAC12 member (Utah)!!! How is SW
Baptist doing? They must be a really good team because they beat Utah head to
head and in the Huntsman Center!!! Am I right? Good luck to all the Utah
schools!!!Go Cougs beat the Ducks!!! Rise Up!!!
Reno Cougs Fan 68Reno, NVI respectfully disagree.Good luck to Utah, Weber and the Ducks.
Matt must make the 3, deny Ducks the 3 on D., fast break, run the floor, show
Oregon Ducks the door. Oregon will miss the forest they have
painted on their home court. There'll be no shade in the bright lights of
the NCAA tourney. Advantage Cougars!
I pick BYU in a mild upset. Oregon may walk in thinking that without
Collinsworth, BYU will be easy to roll.I'm picking Bartley to
be a hero in this game. He's got the hops and the speed.
It drives me nuts that ute fans think they are amazing because they are in the
Pac-12. It means nothing if you don't do anything in it. utah fans act like
they should be rewarded for Arizona's #1 seed, when they did absolutely
nothing.By the logic of ute fans, I guess BYU earned a #1 seed last
year because of gonzaga, and utah has won a football national championship in
1984 for being in the WAC.Get real. Your accomplishments are yours.
Arizona's, Oregon's, etc. are their own. utah fans always talk up
their conference because they can't say much about their own team
I've been reading the comments. I have a very simple take. Without
Collinsworth, BYU will have a very difficult time winning against Oregon. Here
are the areas of focus I believe BYU needs to address in this game.1. Defend the 3 - The simple fact is that BYU has been very weak at guarding
the 3 point line. That is because they are so busy trying to help protect in the
paint. With Collinsworth out, they will probably feel even more pressure to help
protect down low.2. Hit your free throws - Remember when BYU was
consistently one of the better free throw shooting teams in the country? Have
they moved away from practicing free throws? Not sure what is going on there.3. No single answer for replacing Collinsworth. Other players are going
to have to step up big time. The problem with the loss of Collinsworth is that
BYU loses the body strength that he has. I like Sharp but he does not have the
physicality of Collinsworth.
