Let's go dancing!
At half, 2 assist, 7 turnovers, and 1 for 5 from arc for BYU. They kind of
unraveled in the latter half of the 1st half. SF is playing as physical as the
refs will allow. When will the coaches let Mika know that whenever
he puts the ball on the floor he loses it about half the time.
And byu's bubble is about to pop for the final time. Go San Fran
In byu's biggest game of the season haws goes 4 for 15 from the field. Byu
fans eating crow after taking about loveridge not showing up in big games
Thanks to all the Utah fans for all the support on the BYU game. Thanks for
watching the game. Appreciate it
Thanks Chris B for once again guaranteeing BYU the win. You are the man! So
great to be a Cougar right now!As Joe said, "Let's go
I love the Utah trolls who just want a response from BYU fans. Does it make you
feel better about the fact that ya'll are NIT bound?? Must have been
extremely difficult for them to watch BYU win this game and punch their ticket
to the NCAA tourney. Tough victory. We battled hard. Proved that we belong.
CB once again using reverse psychology to guarantee a BYU win!
"The best team in the tournament" lost to BYU for the third time this
year.Collinsworth was awesome....gotta be the beard!Chris B and all his alias's jinx strikes again.
Ute trolls eat crow again. Ya gotta love itGo Cougs!!!!
Thanks Chris, you are BYU's good luck charm. Keep commenting. BYU in the
dance......Utah not so much
Congratulations BYU on a huge win to lock up an at-large bid to the Big
Dance!Utah could have three teams in the tourney, including two from
Utah Valley - BYU, UVU and WSU...none, of course, from Salt Lake
A great time to shoot 86% on free throws. The Ute trolls are eating
so much crow that they will be cawing for days to come!Go Cougs
It's not easy to beat a Top 100 team three times in the same season, but
BYU proved their mettle by gutting out another close win versus the #67 Dons.Go Cougs!Onward and upward!
@2013 Those will be Utes excuse when they lose to the cougars on Wednesday
Um, Chris B AKA AKA AKA AKA, etc.BYU has a great chance of going
dancing. They beat a very good team tonight. You conveniently forgot
to mention the chances of "your" team making it to the tournament. I
The Utes have about as much chance to go to the big dance as they have getting
into a bowl.BYU easily gets into the big dance again. Onward and
upward. I love our prestigious Independence!
Thanks for the moral support, loyal Ute fans! We couldn't have done it
without you.The above group of comments are truly ironic, and will
shortly elevate to the level of farce as the PAC whatever tournament kicks off.
For the Ute basketball team, as if they read the comments on a BYU basketball
article, I salute your growth this season and hope your tournament success is
impressive. For the Ute fans contributing their "good
wishes", I wonder if one and done will take on a whole new definition for U
Saved by the Free throws, that's new this year. As far as the refs go, have
you ever seen a player attack the basket as much as KC without getting at least
1 FT attempt? He did get two at the end there on the intentional foul, but oh
well, a W is a W
Not pretty but a win is a win! Good luck tomorrow!
BYU should have lost with the very poor showing late in the game!
BYU Cougars are going dancing! Post season. Coach Rose is the man! Playing
that tough preseason schedule is making a big difference. That is why you play
tough teams early. It makes a big difference when you get to the end of the
season. Let's win tomorrow night and move on to the BIG DANCE!
Way to hold on Cougs! That should secure an NCAA bid.
It wasn't pretty but a win's a win and we're one step closer to
an NCAA bid. Good to see us get a close, grind it out kind of win. The defense
is playing better and Collingsworth is playing Mr. Versatility again. Nice to
see Mika being aggressive and the team find a way to win even with Haws having
an off night. Now, get those Zags and Go Coug's!!
Congratulations to the Cougars!!!!!!!!!
Please check the final score before prophesying Cougar doom. I'm going to
make a prediction. BYU will be invited to play in the NCAA tournament. How is
that for being positive. With an RPI in the low thirties, it won't be a
surprise that they are included in the sixty-four tournament teams. Or is it
more than sixty-four with some "play-in" games?
Yawn. Come on anti-BYU fans get a grip. BYU will be going to the NCAA's
and with a lot of luck so will UVU, Weber State, Utah State, and Utah. It is a
great tournament and an invitation to the Big Dance is a treasured reward for a
successful season. The championship game versus Gonzaga should be a
real battle. The Zags want to continue their reign over the WCC and get a
little higher seed and BYU will be gunning for their first conference tournament
championship. We also would move up a notch or two on the seeding list so their
is reward for both teams which will bode for a great setting.Sit
back and let's enjoy some great college basketball.Goooooooooooooo Cougars!!
Oh the predictions of the single troll who uses three monikers. It's got to
hurt to be addicted to pain. This was a great game, the refs let
both teams play and it was as physical as any game this year. I think when BYU
makes the dance they could very easily make some noise. Not all teams will scout
them like those in the WCC have scouted them. They can really open up the tempo
and push the game, they have learned to play much better defense and they have
greatly improved free throws with Winder playing serious minutes. I
am optimistic for one NCAA win and possibly two. Rise and Shout BYU
Just listened to San Fran's coach at the presser. That's one arrogant
coach for loosing. I thought that classlessness was left to the fans.
This game was almost unwatchable. BYU was lucky to win. Who is in charge of
the defense? The Cougars often looked like the keystone cops out there with the
result being a SF player wide open underneath the rim. Also, why does Rose wait
so long to call a time out when the cougars are losing momentum?
idabluIdaho Falls, IDAt half, 2 assist, 7 turnovers, and 1 for 5

Wow chris b, you got your posts in on this one. The problem is that BYU won the
game, making you look silly. With BYU being a bubble team, Thier chances of
making the tourney just went up a notch. With another win over Gonzaga, I
would guess that they will be a 9-seed. With a loss- a 12 seed play-in game is
likely. I believe that the WCC is actually a much better league than they are
given credit for.
Looks like a lot of the posters above quit posting before the game ended...wonder why....LOLI really enjoyed watching BYU win.
@Chris BHope you enjoying eating that large plate of crow on Sunday
when BYU gets an invite. @Big 12 Call Yet?So let me get
this straight. A team which has:- Won 23 games so far this season,
including 10 of their last 11- Finished second place in the regular season
standings in a conference which last year had two teams go to the NCAA
Tournament (three the year before)- Reached the finals of their conference
tournament, a conference ranked as 9th best in RPI ranking This team
has "0% Chance" of reaching the NCAA Tournament? Along with
Chris B, I sure hope you enjoy that plate of crow on Sunday. @2013
Ute Seniors SWEEP byU 4-0Hate to break it to you, but BYU won
tonight.Do you have an "excuse" for that?
idablu1) Your question. "When will the coaches let Mika know
that whenever he puts the ball on the floor he loses it about half the
time?" The answer is we don't know. We thought it would be in
November....then we thought December....then January....then February. Just
plain clumsy and ugly looking.2) Could Coach Rose stay focused? When
we have the ball with 30 seconds left in the half one would want to work for the
"FINAL" shot. The reasoning is you will prevent the other team from
scoring a basket before half time. Thank our lucky stars that after we took our
usual early dumb shot and missed USF missed their final shot. Rose losing focus
could have cost us that game. No excuses.
Why do we have the best inbound plays in the country but the worst in the
country final shot of half or final shot of game strategies. It's not that
we haven't made one final second shot all year...it's the fact we
haven't had one final second shot that wasn't so ugly it was
embarrassing. Kind of like the end of first half tonight...and the end of
regulation when we had some idea to work it to Collinsworth for a crazy three
pt. attempt that was blocked. We had plenty to work for a quality shot. Is Coach
Rose masterminding these final shot plays?
This is how the San Francisco Chronicle described Cougar coaching strategy in
the final seconds of regulation."The Cougars' ensuing
possession left a lot to be desired. BYU didn't do much of anything, and
Kyle Collinsworth was forced to take a contested three-pointer that Mark
Tollefsen blocked."C'mon guys...attack the darn basket in
the final seconds of a half or game. No reason to be scared.
Three classless comments from Utah fans already. This Ute fan congratulates BYU
on the great win! Represent the state well if/when you get the chance. Most of
the Ute fans I know aren't haters and will be cheering for you. And
hopefully the Utes can do something at the NIT. Good luck to BYU!!!
Interesting that more comments from frustrated Ute fans than byu fans at this
point. As usual, chris b has a problem with facts as do the other ute fans. It
appears clear that byu will be in the tournament now regardless of the outcome
of tonights game. San Fransisco is a good team and that is another quality win
for the cougars. I like the defense the team is playing now.
Poor CB with all his screen aliases: even worse than his own team and conference
continuing to be mediocre, those Cougars keep winning. Gonna be a tough
Congrats to BYU. Nice win against a very good team. Tough one against the Zags
coming up. Neutral floor so let's get it done. Looks like two WCC teams
this year but nothing certain until Sunday.
I love that 3/5 of the comments before mine are anti-BYU! Keep rooting against
us, girls, as it seems to be our good luck charm!I also think that
Coach Walter's comments were awesome! I really do enjoy (and respect) when
a coach actually speaks his mind, and the part about having a lot of Mormons mad
at him is hilarious. Having confidence in and love for your players is a good
thing, so I don't fault him one bit.As for BYU, good job making
free throws!!! Man, what a difference those would have made in a few games
earlier this year. Now go out there and take down Gonzaga!
We will have many pac 10 conference tournament titles as Dave Rose because we
are prestegous. We will be dancing after we win our conference
tornament for sure. Our awesome road record proves we are the best
team in the state.Go Utes!
The first half was great, sounds like the 2nd was even better. Due to the late
start, I cashed my chips in at half time. This sets up a nice Championship
matchup. Both Gonzaga and BYU are playing good ball. No matter what the Haters
say, BYU punched there ticket to the Big Dance. Good for them and Congrats.
KenIn BYU's biggest game of the season, Haws was the leading
scorer and helped lead his team to a WIN!
@ Y Grad / Y DadGood win, and Congrats Guy! Tonight's game
should be a good one!
Unlike the Utesies the cougs know how to finish games. Unfortunately the Zags
are gonna bet them soundly tonight, a late OT game will not do them any favors.
But the Cougs are dancing and the Utes aren't mark that down
Sensational performance from the free-throw line! The BYU offense struggled
against a good defense. Looking forward to the final.
After watching the game, I can say that BYU has a very good team. However,
their Achilles heel is their lack of composure. Mika is a hothead who should
have had an early technical for confronting a USF player and almost head butting
him over a jump ball. Haws is also very emotional. Both of these players caused
BYU to lose an early 29-20 lead and to go behind at halftime. If they play a
calm game, they can beat Gonzaga. If they don't, Gonzaga will chew them
Haven't been able to see many games this year, but here are a few of my
observations.BYUs D was pretty bad in the first half. Windor kept
letting the USF bigs get behind him in the zone and it was a easy hi/low entry
pass for a bucket. If BYU doesn't score in transition (which USF
took away after the first 10 min or so) they have a rough go. They have got to
work on their half-court offense, especially since the ZAGS know exactly what to
expect.I love the intensity that Mika and Haws have and play with,
but there is a time and place to just let it go. That being said, I love
Mika's attitude on the court. We just aren't deep enough with prolific
big guys to afford him fouling out.Does anyone have any idea what
Worthington is doing out on the floor? Matty C shows again why he is
a bench player, so unpredictable and erratic.Great job Haws for
finding a way to score even when the shots aren't falling.
Well done BYU. Excited for the game against Gonzaga tonight and a chance for an
automatic bid to the NCAAs. Best of luck in the game!!Go Cougars!!!
Towards the end, I thought the Cougars played really sloppy and had way too many
turnovers that kept SFU in the game. I love Carlino, but darn it, he sure does
some dumb things in pressure situations. Thank heaven for incredible free throw
shooting! I thought Coach Rose's handling of that last
possession in regular time was incredibly poorly thought out. Had they just run
their regular offense in the last ten seconds, they would have gotten a better
shot off. They'll have to play a lot better tonight to beat
Gonzaga. Go Cougs!!!
Hey Spokane Ute, Good luck tonight. I hope for a good game no matter
what the outcome.
Ken "In byu's biggest game of the season haws goes 4 for 15 from the
field. Byu fans eating crow after taking about loveridge not showing up in big
games"Uh, you did notice that even on an off night Haws was the
leading scorer and was perfect from the free throw line, especially in the
clutch, right? Your comment almost indicates that you missed that small
difference between Haws and JL's 'off' nights.Ya, BYU
fans are just choking on the crow this morning. That's funny!
Congrats Cougars! No time to rest... Grit, tenacity and focus will give you the
chance to win the WCC! Take it! Don't give up or give in. You can do it!
We'll be watching by the thousands all around the country tonight! You can
show your detractors once and for all!
@ CougarSunDevilThanks; I think tonights game will be a good, close
game. Both teams are playing good ball right now. I'm glad the start time
is earlier; 6:00 PM PST. Have a good One!
Have I grown out of the BYU-Utah Rivalry, or do people just have too much time
on their hands?I love that people stay up until 1 am defending two
pretty mediocre basketball programs.
Great game Cougars. "Alpiner" it seams to me that an overtime game that
ends with both teams in the 70s must have had some defense going on? SF is very
physical and part of their strategy is always to take teams out of their regular
game that way. I did not see a lack of defense, but I did see a lot of banging
going on.Great win Coach Rose. You are classy guy who doesn't
need to constantly tell his players that they are the best in the tournament to
get their respect. We are very fortunate to have you!!
@ Chris B:Just the other day you said that "BYU always chokes in
their big games". Well, it was a pretty big game on national tv last night
and no choking happened for the Cougars. Quite the contrary. They stepped it up
big-time in overtime over a very good San Fran team that had won 5 or 6 games in
a row prior to this one. Once again, your prediction falls flat and into the low
credibility department. Does this mean you'll quit posting for a week? One
can at least hope.@ Ken:Marty Haws was 14 for 14 from
the foul-line, making all of them down the stretch when needed the most. If
there were any bubbles popped last night, they weren't BYU's. So the
only "eating crow" as you put it, was actually done by you and other
similar minded anti-BYU Ute fans. Bon-Appetite. Thanks for playing and better
luck next time.
Why can't every one get behind every team in the State of Utah. I would
love to see every team from Utah in the Tourney.
This is huge. Let's all be happy.
Great game. The state of Uyah has been well represented.
CrissyPleeeeeeeeeeeeeeze make a prediction that BYU will lose tonight.
BYU needs your good luck charm.Classy comments from ken and the
other BYU haters. Even when Haws has an off night because he was double teamed
when he touched the ball he still had a better night that Loveridge's and
wright's better nights. LOL
@ Spokane Ute:Classy comments from the most mature Ute fan of all.
Thank you.In fact, because of you and your exemplary attitude, I genuinely
hope Utah does well in their upcoming tournament game.
Wait, SF's coach thinks his team is the best in the WCC tournament?
Let's see... he lost 3 times to BYU, twice to Gonzaga, and finished with a
worse conference and overall record than both BYU and Gonzaga. His team has a
worse RPI and BPI than both BYU and Gonzaga. So basically by any measure, he has
the 3rd best team in the WCC tournament. Oh well. I wish him luck in the NIT. I
am sure he will say his team is the best team in that tournament too after they
From this article, "I would say we are the best team in this
tournament," Walters said. "The best team may not have won tonight. Our
hat's off to BYU ... There may be a lot of Mormons mad at me, but I
don't give a rat's you-know-what what the state of Utah thinks of
me."He actually said, "Our hat's off to Gonzaga."
Maybe he meant BYU but he did not say that. He probably meant what he said,
because he followed it up with his comments about Mormons and Utah.Sorry Walters, but in this case the better team did win. Someone needs to tell
him his own "better team" lost two other games earlier this year to the
team that won this game.
Great win. BYU dug in and held on to beat a good team. The outside shooting
better improve if they want to beat GonzagChis B (Legion), Ken and
company, I know you are so ideologically bent against BYU so as to be incapable
of giving credit where credit is due, but seriously-- it is difficult for any
team to beat the same opponent three times in the same season (unless playing
the teams on Utah's early season schedule three times, at home). And BYU
has done that twice in tournament. Please tell us the last time your
Utes have beaten the same team three times in the same season. Or even twice.
Spokane UteSpokane, WAHey, friend, I have a Ute fan at the
front desk of the building I'm working in today. I passed her by with
hardly even a change in my blood pressure!Good luck with your
tournament. Utes have done improbable things before! Go make it happen.
Just can't understand why the opposing team can shoot the lights out with 3
pointers and not be guarded (reason why), but BYU, the great 3 point-shooting
team can't buy a bucket due to great defense by the other team. When oh
when will BYU learn to guard the 3-pointer!!!!Otherwise----GO BYU, beat
To Coach Walters,No upset BYU fan Mormons around here. BYU won! You
can say and believe anything you want. It's a free country. It doesn't
make those saying or beliefs true, but if it makes you feel better, have at it.
Nice of you to stick up for your players.
Ken-Please re-read your early and wrong (!) predictions. I'm sure the
Cougar fans are "sorry for your loss." Y Grad/Y Dad's
comment responding to Ken and others: "The above group of comments are truly
ironic..." Ironic rhymes with what?Congrats to the Cougars and
good luck with the Bulldogs.
Speaking of Mary Lola, is that the same Mary Lola that took two out of three
from the PAC 12 Utes in baseball?
Frustrating game to watch, but it was nice to see the Cougs finally make a high
percentage of their free throws. USF almost won the game with their clutch
three-point shooting, but BYU took it back with made free throws. One of
BYU's glaring weaknesses on offense is that Nate Austin apparently has been
told never to shoot; as I remember, he was pretty accurate in past years from
12-15 feet, but now everyone knows he doesn't do anything on offense but
set picks and crash the boards. Whether BYU wins or loses, I still get annoyed
with the WCC's capricious refs; both Dave Rose and Rex Walters have grounds
for griping about the officiating last night.
@ Spokane UteBoth Gonzaga and BYU wanted this matchup and both
programs and fans have a lot of respect for the other. Gonzaga wants this
matchup because their best victory of the season was against BYU in Spokane and
beating BYU again will help them with their seeding. BYU wanted this matchup
also help them with their seeding and because it is only fitting for them to
beat Gonzaga to win the WCC tournament because Gonzaga has been so dominant in
this tournament. Regardless of the outcome both teams are getting into the big
dance. Thanks for the classy comments.
Congratulations Cougars and good luck against Gonzaga!
I didn't get a chance to watch the game last night because of the late
start. I am ecstatic to find out today that BYU pulled it out; and from the
free throw line, no less! I'm happy to see that Collinsworth, who we all
know has struggled from the charity stripe, hit the free throws that ended up
being the difference. Hopefully, that will be a huge confidence booster. As for the SF coach and his comments: no, Cougar fans (and Mormons)
aren't upset. Why should we be? The Dons and Cougars played three times,
and BYU came out on top every game. We know who the best team is. It's
pretty clear. Now, had this been the only time BYU and SF played this season?
Then you could make the claim that the better team didn't win.
Bet the cougs get knocked out first round of the tournament!Go UVU

who is supposed to be theWCC coach of the year, more like chump of the year.
Congrats to the Cougars on a well earned victory. I liked their physical play
and the lack of wild shots.
Well, after watching the post-game press conference, it is clear that the UFS
coach meant to say BYU, not Gonzaga. His comments were not offensive nor meant
to offend. He truly believes in his team which is what the players, fans and
school administration would want from him. He believes his team is the best in
the tournament and I believe there is another team or two that is better. We can
all have such beliefs. He seems to be a good coach for young men.Go
While certainly not a guarantee, I think it is safe to say that BYU punched
their ticket to the Big Dance last night. The only thing that remains now is to
see if they will go dancing as an automatic 8-9 seed, or an at large 11-12 seed.
Either way, I think the Cougars have a good chance of beating Gonzaga tonight.
Both teams beat the other handily on their own court so it should be a pretty
even match up on a neutral court. GO COUGARS!!
Way to lose with class Coach Walters. We "Mormons" don't really
care what you think about us either, have fun losing in the first round of the
Ken,Haws has an off night and still scores 24 points. Wright and
