Attention USHAA:TO all those who choose to have the basketball
tournaments a "one & done" on every day, PLEASE read ALL of Ms.
Donaldson's articles over the past week; all of them. It is about the
journey and that journey has an array of ups & downs. You take way so much
from the players when they loose & go home. It just plays into the current
social mentality that "you suck" if you don't win it all. We
damage the opportunities for players to extend the challenge of picking
themselves off the floor and doing something special with those who have taken
the journey with them. And That may no be just
winning.Well said, Amy, well said.
I first followed 1-A basketball in the newspapers when my daughter played for a
small western Utah team. I enjoyed reading the articles that highlighted these
athletes just as eloquently as when they wrote about the largest teams in UHSAA.
Mostly the stakes aren't as high as in the larger contests, but the life
rewards are, just as poignant, the thrill of competition-win or lose, just as
fulfilling. I have searched out and read these articles for a long time now. In
those years rarely have I read an article as touching as this one. Bravo Amy!
