Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Afghanistan, Georgia, Ukraine. The list goes on and on.
Doesn't seem to matter whether it is the old Soviet Union or the new
Russia. It's the same old song and dance.
And, of course, the world will sit by and watch. After all Putin only wants the
Chrimea. He needs room to grow. It did of course actually belong to Russia for
so many years, The people there want him. And nobody will interfere
especiallly not the United States with their President that has all the spine
and moral fortitude of a slug.Think back 76 years to another Putin, one
that only wanted the Sudetenland for his country to grow. They only needed
elbow room. Nobody wanted to offend him. Let him have his way, we had to
maintain peace. Of course he also wanted the rhineland back and Chamberlain
settled with the Munich Pact. After all he only wanted to secure "Peace for
Our Time". That worked well...
Gosh, at times like this it is so reassuring to have a reasonable Democratic
administration in power here in the US. Obama and the Dems have
neutered the destructive power of the pro-war Right Wingers in this nation, and
fortunately all they can do now is rant and fume. And yes, shadow01
although you find some comfort in calling Obama a "slug," he's
actually preventing the true lower lifeforms from interfering.Thank
you, President Obama, for keeping this nation safe.
Ok shadow and Gary, tell us precisely what a republican in the White House would
be doing.Give us an example. Would Romney be dropping bombs all over
Moscow as retaliation?Would you send your kids over to fight in this war?
Do you think we should add another trillion dollars to the deficit, like Bush
did for Iraq?Seriously, you blame Obama for this so tell us exactly what a
republican would do.
Ernest T. Bass - I don't blame Obama at all for Putin's rash
actions.Political Right Wingers are blaming Obama for Putin's
rash actions, and yes, it is silly.I don't know what Romney
would be doing had he won the election, and I'm glad I don't have to
worry about that. I can guess though.Romney would probably be
huffing and puffing and blustering, the way Republican Presidents tend to do to
satisfy the war-mongering faction of the Republican base. After all, if Romney
had won, he would be running for re-election in 2016.All that
blustering might well nudge Putin into doing something even more stupid. So, as I said in all sincerity, "Thank you, President Obama, for
keeping this nation safe."
To "GaryO' unfortunately Obama's policies have only made the US
and its allies less safe. Remember, he is the guy who has encouraged the
"Arab Spring", which turned out to just be the middle east catching
fire, and served only to put terrorists in control of many of those nations.Right now I can tell you what Obama will do to Putin, if Putin goes in
and takes over the Ukraine. Obama will write a really stern letter to Putin,
telling him to get out. And that is about it.You probably forgot
that Romney warned Obama of Iran building nukes and about Russia looking to
expand its power. Hindsight shows us that apparently Romney knew more about
what was going on around the world 2 years ago than Obama currently does.
GaryO,I am not sure how old you are. Do you remember the hostage
situation with Carter as President? Do you remember the correlation of what
happened right before Reagan was elected? This will help you understand.
Really Red Shirt? Obama has a habit of standing up for democracy
and human rights, but he's hardly to blame for turmoil in the middle
east. And Romney's bombast offered nothing new. Do you actually
believe that Obama was not aware of Iran's proclivities or Russia's
desire to "expand its power." Every nation wants to expand its power in
one way or another. And just a reminder, it was not Obama who ordered
US troops to invade Iraq under false pretenses and destabilize the Middle East
for years to come. Iran is stronger now directly because of that. Was it a
Democratic administration that perpetrated that outrage and put this nation in
peril? I don't think so. So tell me Red Shirt, what do you
think Romney would have done other than seek diplomatic solutions to Mideast
conflicts?Isn't constant warfare for the last decade enough for
you? What do you think Romney would have done differently? How do you
think Romney would handle the Russia-Ukraine issue? By military force against
Russia? Just a heads up . . . World War III would be extremely
unpleasant for you.
LoganHistorian, Yes I'm old enough to remember the Iran Hostage situation.
What about it?" . . . the correlation of what happened right
before Reagan was elected?"I wish you could be more specific.
But I guess you must be referring to the sand storm, the aborted rescue attempt,
and the subsequent helicopter crash that killed part of the special forces
rescue team. But still . . . What about it?And no, that does not
help me understand why Right Wingers only seem to know how to complain. They offer NO constructive suggestions or solutions.
To "GaryO" actually, he is to blame. Obama used his influence to
legitimize the islamic government that Egypt put up, before the military ousted
that corupt government.Next, in Libya Obama not only supported the
uprising, he sent aircraft into that country to bomb targets for the AlQaeda
supported resistance movement. Libya is now more unstable than it was before
the uprising. See "Libya violence: US teacher shot dead in Benghazi" in
the BBC. Or just do a search for news stories about how unstable that country
is.I don't know what Romney would have done, but he showed a
greater insight into world politics than Obama has. The very things that Obama
mocked Romney for predicting are now happening. For all we know Putin may have
stayed away from Ukraine because he didn't want to deal with Romney. You realize that Bush requested the troops be sent into Afghanistan and
Iraq, but it was the Democrats in Congress that have kept the funding up.But you still ignore the fact that the worst thing that Obama will do
will be to write a really stern letter to Putin.
