Good luck to Jimmer. Some of us (may be just me) Utah fans are cheering for you.
Freeeeeeeeeedom!Make it count Jimmer. Can't wait to see what
you can do on a real team.
Wait a minute. All of those guys with the pac 12 stickers on their cars (Is pac
12 a team?) told me that he was going to Turkey?CHICAGO BULLS!
Nice. Best of luck to Brother Fredette!
Good for jimmer, it will be interesting to see if Tom thibodeau can turn him
into a playable player. I'm just really surprised that the
best player at byu in over 30 years isn't good enough to start anywhere in
the NBA. Who was the last byu player to start regularly in the
NBA?I think Shawn Bradley, who is regarded as one of the biggest
flops ever(for such a high pick) is the only player to really do much in the NBA
in 3 decades. And it doesn't look like Jimmer or Davies has much
of a future other than minor role players.Anyway, best of luck
Jimmer. If it doesn't work out, there's nothing wrong with playing in
Europe. Maybe your wife would like to live in Europe.
Is this Chicago in Germany or Turkey? All I remember reading is he would have
to sign in Europe and that he was done in the NBA. Any help on my world
geography would be appreciated.
Utesgoing...Thanks for the nice sentiments. I also wish Jimmer
Great news! I hope they put you to work Jimmer. The paycheck is great I am
sure, but will be much better if the Bulls have you earn it. Love what you did
gainst NY last month and would love to see a repeat this month. Congrats on
another chance to demonstrate your skills!
But, but, but...we all heard that nobody wanted him! This simply can't be
true!In all seriousness, good luck, Jimmer. Work hard and make the
most of your opportunities.
Jimmer is free at last - good luck in the Windy City!I think
he's going to surprise a few naysayers.
If Jimmer doesn't get much playing time in Chicago I wonder if byu fans
still start blaming it on the Bulls organization like they did to Sacramento?
Or will reality start to set in that Jimmer is not NBA starter material, even
though he's the best player from byu in 30 years.I think based
on the fact that Jimmer is the best player at byu in several decades, byu fans
assumed that meant he was good enough to be more than just a minor role player
in the NBA.But he's not very athletic and athleticism is
important in the NBA.
I don't understand the obsession with Jason Collins and Jimmer Fredette.Collins and Fredette are 12th men in the NBA but the media treats them
like they are Michael Jordan.
Well great, now that Jimmer is out of Sacramento what am I going to fast for
Glad to see Jimmer get out of Sacramento. Thibbs appreciates good shooters and
will give him a fair shot in Chicago.
I am now a Bulls fan.
Kings just lost a fan, Lets go Bulls. I mean Jazz still better
@Big 12 Call Yet?Apparently you forgot about Danny Ainge.Go Jimmer.
To the person asking about BYU players in the NBA in the last. 30 years, Fred
Roberts was a regular starter and Danny Ainge was an All-Star and had more
playoff success than any Ute. Now can you answer mine? Chris doesn't seem
to want to answer them. Which program, BYU or Utah, has more NBA draft picks in
the past ten years (hint: it's 3-1)? Ready for another? Which program, BYU
or Utah, has more NCAA appearances in the past 10 years (hint: it's 7-3)?
Which program, BYU or Utah, has produced more consensus NCAA players of the year
in the past ten years (hint: it's 1-0)? Which program, BYU or Utah, has won
7 of 8 and 11 of 13 in the rivalry? Last question: What does it say about the U
that a team with so little success putting players in the NBA has so dominated
them? Thank you ahead of time.
Glad to hear Jimmer got a team to sign him. Sorry to hear it was the Bulls.
Can I just cheer for Jimmer without cheering for the Bulls?
Very good news from young Mr. Fredette. I hope he finds the situation that best
suits him. Good luck Jimmer.
What you don't understand is that "13th man" is a euphemism for
water boy.Good luck, Jimmer. You continue to be overrated.
@ River Coug:Both Utah and BYU have been invited to participate in
the NCAA Tournament 27 times. Which program has 20 more wins than the other
program? (hint: Utah has 35). Which program has had a Player of the Year in the
last 10 years that was the also the #1 pick in the NBA draft? (hint: it was
Andrew Bogut). Which program has two #1 overall picks in the NBA draft? (hint:
BYU has zero). Which program has two NBA players that have scored more points in
the NBA than all the other program's NBA players combined? (hint: Andre
Miller and Tom Chambers). Which program has more than double the number of top
10 NBA draft picks? (hint: 9-4 Red). Who leads the nation in NCAA Tournament
invitations without reaching the Final Four? (hint: Utah has 4 appearances).
Which program currently has a player starting for a NBA team? (hint: Center for
I'm glad Jimmer was picked up by the Bulls, he needed a fresh start. The
Bulls see the need for gifted long range shooters as demonstrated over the past
couple of decades (Hodges, Kerr, Korver, etc.). Jimmer can shoot with the best
3-point shooters in the NBA and there is definitely a role for him in the
league.Good luck Jimmer!
Congratulations to Jimmer on getting out of Sacramento! I hope this is a good
fit for him, and he gets more playing time. He will have a good following there
as BYU always "travels" well. Jimmer will always be one of our favorite
all-time basketball players. I still have his "47 point" game against
the Utes on my DVR. Also, congratulations to NFL Dennis Pita
(BYU's walk-on Tight End several years ago) in landing a five-year
multi-million $$ contract with Baltimore's team last week! And,
BYU's volleyball team wiped out USC and Pepperdine this weekend in stellar
performances. They are so exciting to watch! And the men's basketball team
won at San Diego State. Great Cougar weekend!Go Cougars!
Chris B just got "JIMMERED" by River Coug!Poor Chris B and
the Utes no more Bowls and can't get to the Big Dance.Well,
there is always the opportunity to comment on BYU Sports articles...
@chistopher BWe would be looking forward for someone from the University
of Utah to represent the State
The Bulls are currently holding a "fire sale" to restructure the team.
They are not trying to win in order to drop into the lottery sweepstakes. Jimmer
is a very good player and Thibedeau is a very good coach. However, the Bulls are
just one more sign of just how "unorthodox" the NBA really is. The
league is built upside down with the big effort to connive to drop toward the
bottom without tipping off their plans. The Heat will win again even though
they are not concerned about it right now. Once again once the playoffs start,
King James will take off his mask and go to work.
Jimmer should be able to contribute immediately! No need to gain familiarity
with Chicago's offense or players. Defense? Meh! Jimmer's game has
always be shoot the ball. period.
Why not forget BYU/UTAH rivalry and wish a person the best. I hope he gets a
fair opportunity and can take advantage of it!
Several nice comments by the players on the bulls about having Fredette as part
of their team. Will be interesting to see how he mixes in. Also noticed that
Sacramento has lost their past three games.... including a loss where the lakers
scored 126 points on the kings..... Fredette is in a much better place.
Rivercoug just got jimmered by utesby5!!I didn't know all those
facts. But I will be using them from now on!Thanks
utesby5. You OWNED that battle
BYUalumSouth Jordan, UT i hate to be the bearer of bad news ,but BYU did
not play SAN DIEGO STATE they played UNIVERSITY OF SAN DIEGO there is a huge
difference between the 2 teams.
Best of Luck to Fredette. He is a class act in every way.
There was another BYU player with very long NBA career, know who, I'll bet
not. Greg Kite. He hardly played. He played with Shack. He was the only player
that could stand up to the physical practices required to make Shack the great
player he became. Another was Cosic, the Number one draft pick in the NBA for
two years in a row. He declined to play & returned to Czechlovakia & led
his team over Russia in the Olympics. Became the coack. He accomplished
greatness with what he did for young people in his country. You can hardly find
a NBA player at any time who accomplished what he did. Being in the NBA is not
the pinacle of greatness or life. A player from BYU went to Russia and over many
years also accomplished greatness. He was given citizenship and many honors
because of what he did for children in that country. So put that in your NBA
pipe and stuff it.Jeff
JBQ, et.al.-Given the tenor and tone of most of the Ute fans on this
thread, it sounds as though King James has been or should be adopted into the
Ute basketball tradition and legends. I thought he went to the NBA from high
school....After all, with enough spin, you can be anything you want.
Nice to see him get a chance with an offense that plays to his strengths rather
than to his weaknesses. Say what you will about his defense, its better than
Missouri loves BYULebanon, MO"Also noticed that Sacramento
has lost their past three games.... including a loss where the lakers scored 126
points on the kings....." Hmmmmm...I don't follow
professional sports but it sounds to me like the Kings can't play defense
so Fredette should have been a perfect fit in Sacramento. Why don't they
want him anymore?
Chris, Just the fact that you have to post comment on every BYU article to make
Utah sports look better than BYU sports you are owned by every single BYU fan.
I see BYU fans post trolling on Utah articles too, but the amount of
trolling in BYU articles is much higher.
Here are some facts:Chicago just blew out the worst team in the
NBA.Jimmer played 3 minutes.Scored 2 points.Not sure if
I'm getting Jimmered or not but looks like he was!
For all the bitter Utah fans: Jimmer is playing in his third year in the NBA.
You don't have to worry about him dropping 47 on you this year or any year.
Get over it.
@ Jeff 1s:"Another was Cosic, the Number one draft pick in the
NBA for two years in a row. He declined to play & returned to Czechlovakia
& led his team over Russia in the Olympics."Kresimir Cosic,
a Croatian, was an excellent basketball player and extremely fun to watch play.
Although he was drafted in 1972 and 1973, he was not the number one overall
draft pick either year. Cosic was selected with the 144th pick by Trail Blazers
in 1972 and with the 84th pick by the Lakers in 1973.Cosic played
and coached in four Olympics with Yugoslavia. Later he later became a Deputy
Ambassador of Croatia to the U.S. He was indeed a great man.
Utesby. Two points. Danny Ainges 3P% was better then Andre Millers, which must
mean BYU is better. And one that really matters. BYU players have won 2 NBA
titles, both where the player had a significant role(Ainge). Utah has won just
1. (Who knew that Michael Doleac was tucked away at the end of the Miami Heat
At least Jimmer had a way more positive situation about his team then Andre
@River CougYou conveniently forgot that Andrew Bogut was player of
the year in 2004-2005 and was the top pick in the 2005 draft.
@ RonBergundy:Arnie won a couple of NBA Championships with the
Lakers. Kite was with Ainge in Boston for the same two NBA titles. That would
make it 4-3 Cougars. I guess that confirms BYU's NBA dominance!
@river club, go Google Andrew Bogut. A legitimate nba player, consensus all
American and also player of the year in 2005, #1 overall draft pick. All in the
last 10 years. We can all shape the argument in our favor. We'll see about
jimmer. He has a lot to prove on the court. Utah has had far more success with
the players they have sent to the nba recently and in history. See Tom Chambers,
Keith Vanhorn, Andre Miller, Michael Doleac, Andrew Bogut to name a few. Fred
Roberts, Danny ainge and jimmer don't quite stack up.
Danny Ainge wallowed in Sacramento. Sacramento is still a place where stars go
to die. For Jimmer's sake I am glad he got out of there. Hopefully, the
Bulls want a player who can score all night and has enough downtown range to
spread out the court. Best of luck Jimmer.
I for one appreciate the positive ute fans comments. Lets get a few things
straight. \First, if Jimmer doesn't get playing time with the
Bulls, it isn't their fault. This will rest squarely on Jimmer's
shoulders. The Bulls organization is fantastic, their coach is in the top 5 in
the league and if anyone can help Jimmer play defense it is Thibs. Second, we really don't know what Jimmer has to offer on the defensive
side. From high school through college he was never ASKED to play defense.
Sacramento doesn't play any defense at all, so nothing new there. Thibs
will develop whatever Jimmer has to offer on the defensive end.Third, somebody asked who the last BYU player to start in the NBA and said
Shawn Bradely...nope Travis Hansen with the Hawks. I think he started a total of
5 straight, but it is well after Bradely. Fourth, utes, you may
have had a #1 pick or two, but they are #1 pick worthy. Nobody would make those
#1 picks again. Don't scold us about living in the past, when was your last
meaningful season? This season? And you won't even be dancing....
Why does the local media dedicate so much time and energy to the biggest bust.
Jimmer should follow Arujo and play in Brazil or Europe. He just doesn't
have it to play in the NBA
I never doubted. I believe he will be utilized and appreciated. What a class
act this man is and continues to exemplify what the moniker
'gentleman' means. I hope you knock the socks off the naysayers once
and for all.
CrowSandy , UTThat would explain why the Bulls told him to
pound sand. Oh, wait a minute...
Ygrad is that why he played significant minutes in yesterdays game silly me I
thought just like in Sacramento he got garbage minutes coming off the bench.
Just like Sacramento Chicago will cut him at the end of the year. Why keep him
when they can draft a real NBA player in this upcoming draft.
@Crow - why do you think a player that was signed in the morning would play
significant minutes in the afternoon of the same day?
I though Jimmer was supposed to be a hobo by now because no team would ever want
Crow,You seriously think a player would play significant minutes
just hours after joining the team? I'm sure the plan was for him to sit on
the bench the entire game to observe the Bulls' offense. In fact, on more
than one occasion, I observed an assistant coach sitting next to him explaining
something. He only got into the game because it was a blowout. The fact that the
Bulls took a chance on him says a lot. One, they are a defensive-minded club
with a defensive-minded coach. There's no doubting Jimmer's deffensive
deficiencies yet they signed him anyway. Two, the Bulls are most likely going to
the playoffs--quite possibly in the top-4. You don't sign a player at this
stage of the season in that situation without believing he can make an impact.
The Bulls may very well not sign him in the offseason but that's not the
point. They acquired him to help them make the playoffs and beyond--this season.
Crow said,"Why does the local media dedicate so much time and
energy to the biggest bust."Is that a serious question? Jimmer
Freddette was one of, if not THE, most exciting college basketball player in the
last 20 years. Not most exciting "local" college basketball player but
I'm talking nationwide. The proof in that is the huge cheer he got
yesterday when he entered the game. In Chicago, Illinois. And then again when he
drained his first jumper. Did you see the Bulls players on the bench going crazy
when he made it? The fact that you're trying to diminish that is proof of
your true colors. And as far as being the "biggest bust", it's a
little too early to label him a bust but even if he ends up being an NBA bust,
the biggest? Not hardly. Brush up on your NBA draft history. You're only
aptly playing the part of Little Brother by making such a hyperbolic statement.

219Nuf said, have a great day!
Sacto was a negative situation for Jimmer, because the current staff
couldn't work Jimmer's strengths into their playing system for some
reason. I believe that Sacto is a very dysfunctional organization will wallow at
the bottom of the pool for years to come. However, Jimmer will
finally be allowed to compete, which all he's asking for. And I for one,
believe that he'll finally be judged on the high level of the skills that
he's got. I still believe that the best use of those skills
would be on the Portland Trailblazers team and I hope with all I've got,
that at the end of this year, Portland takes a shot to acquire him. Man would I
be excited to see him land there!
What I don't understand is why people keep saying he isn't NBA
material. Chicago showed a lot of interest in him. Players and coaches have
said great things about the guy and it seems that they want him to play. Also
just about a month ago he put up 24 points in 27 minutes in an NBA game. That
seems pretty NBA caliber to me. He lead his team in scoring that night by the
way. And played about half the minutes as the rest of the team.
Sorry to burst some of you bubbles, but those including Danny Ainge and Fred
Roberts in those coming out of BYU in the last thirty years are mistaken -- but
barely. Ainge's last season was 1980-81 and Roberts was 1981-82. As for
Fredette, I'm not sure whether or not he'll make it in the Bull's
organization, but I tend to think it's a better fit for him.
@RonBergundySANDY, UTAnd one that really matters. BYU players
have won 2 NBA titles, both where the player had a significant role(Ainge). Utah
has won just 1. (Who knew that Michael Doleac was tucked away at the end of the
Miami Heat bench?)?--------------Ainge was lucky to be
playing for a dynasty like the Boston Celtics and Andre wasn't.
That's not an accomplishment. This is: Andre Miller:
13.5 PPG, 7.0 APG, 3.9 RPGDanny Ainge: 11.5 PPG, 4.0 APG, 2.7 RPG Miller is a better NBA player than Ainge. If Jimmer can stay
in the NBA for 10 years, he'll accomplish what Doleac did. Otherwise their
numbers are the same."And one that really matters": Miller
and Doleac lead the Utes to national a title game, BYU is still looking for
their first Elite 8 win.Back on topic, Jimmer is getting a 2nd
chance to prove that Cougar Nation was correct that he's a future NBA
All-Star. Good for him. IMO, as of today, he's a role player at best,
10-12 man. Lets see if he can improve his game at Chicago to prove the NBA
My question is, how did all the naysayers become such experts?Did
they naysay Stockton all those years ago?He wasn't known
initially for his athleticism.Who was it that has become know by
numerous NBA "experts" as the best point guard in the league? To win, the ball has to go through the hoop. With all the lack of real
defensive play in the NBA, lack of defense ability seems a senseless criticism
made by the self-appointed "experts."
@yarrlydarb Are you seriously comparing Jimmer Fredette to John
Never thought the day would come where I'd be cheering for the Bulls, but
the time has come. Who knows, maybe even have to get me a jersey. To the U fans
giving props, it doesn't go unnoticed. To the others, get over yourselves.
Jimmer wasn't just a local hero, but had a nation wide following (refer to
the multiple POYs and almost nightly appearances on ESPN) and for good reason.
The terms "Jimmered" and "Jimmer Range" weren't accidents.
I can tip my hat when the U deserves it, and I'm pretty sure it
wouldn't kill you to do the same for the Y.
Utesby.5No one compared Fredette to Stockton. Interesting how often
I see false straw-men thrown up on this website that can then be ripped by the
very ones who construct these bogus points of argument.
Ainge was not "lucky" to play with the Celtics, they went through a
long, focused process to obtain his rights because they thought he'd be a
great fit...which he was.Any comparisons of Ainge's career and
Miller's would fairly include the question, would Ainge trade his career
for Miller's...would Miller trade his for Ainge's?Miller
has been in the playoffs 9 years but never played more than 7 playoff games in
any year...never even made it to a conference finals. Higher numbers on
mediocre teams, never a champion and never an All Star. Good solid career,
which he should be proud of and which I have no doubt he'd trade in a
second for Ainge's career.Ainge, All-Star, Two NBA
championships, a starter on one of the top 10 teams in NBA history. Averaged
over 15 ppg in the playoffs during the Celtics second NBA championship season.
Would have scored more had he played on mediocre teams (averaged 19 ppg during
his year+ with Sacramento) but I'm sure he's glad he didn't need
to.It's not all about the stats, it's about knowing how to
@let's rollAinge was not "lucky" to play with the
Celtics, they went through a long, focused process to obtain his rights because
they thought he'd be a great fit...which he was.--------------It was such a "focused process" that Boston
picked Angie as a 2nd round draft pick, their 1st round pick was Charles Bradley
(not to be confused with Charles Barkley). That year #8 pick Champers was lucky
enough to be selected by the Clippers."It's not all about
the stats, it's about knowing how to win." He didn't do much
winning in Sacramento, I wonder why?Ainge was a good player, lucky
enough to be on great Boston (Larry Bird), Portland (Clyde Drexler), Phoenix
(Charles Barkley) teams.
I can't wait to see an article about a Ute "star" followed by so
many comments made by Coug fans show where their frustration, jealousy and low
self-esteem.Like I said...I can't wait...not because I
don't think there will be some more great, marquis Utes...not because I
don't think the D-news won't cover them...but because waiting for
those kinds of comments...won't happen. Not a lot has changed
rivalry-wise since I made the decision to transfer from the U so many years ago
to the campus I swore I'd never set foot on. 2nd best decision of my life.
Ok, 3rd. And, funny thing...I still cheer my guts out for the U...when they
aren't playing BYU (unless a family member is playing, in which case I
always cheer for the team with the family player). I like the rivalry.
For those complaining about Jimmer articles - don't read them and comment
on them if you don't want to see them. Jimmer still has more fans and
haters than most athletes with Utah ties. Jimmer still attracts eyes to the
paper. Go Jimmer/Go Bulls (that hurts)
