Glad we have coach Rose leading the way. Glad he shows some guts and isn't
afraid to shake up the starting lineup. His coaching last week was some of the
best of his career. Keep it going Cougars!
I echo the praise for Coach Rose - sometimes we get complacent about successful
coaches and programs. We saw obvious great coaching in the wins last week and
all season long! Cougar fans should be grateful and proud: consistent winning
seasons, no off-court embarrassments, exemplary student-athletes, coaches who
lead by example, players coming and going on missions, competing for
championships in an interesting new conference, nationally ranked in attendance
and likely headed for the dance. Congratulations Coach Rose - and thank you!
Very true-- Rose has out coached the other teams these last couple weeks for
sure. One of the sports talking points is always that it doesn't matter
whether you start or not and it always seemed to come from the guy who just lost
his starting role. These shake ups have definitely been able full-game strategy
and it's working brilliantly. Mika and Carlino both seem to need those few
minutes watching to see the rhythm of the game and for Mika to allow the
ref's to set the tone for calling the game at someone else' expense.
Carlino is also letting the game come to him and not trying to play hero. All
good things. No one should be overlooking USD, though. They're a good
team, especially at home and also seem to be hitting their stride. Go
The regular season finale against San Diego has HUGE implications for BYU. If
they lose they can kiss their at large NCAA bid goodbye! They will also probably
fall to 3rd in the WCC standings (for the 3rd year in a row) since USF is only
1/2 game behind them. And the Torreros will be looking for payback after getting
spanked in Provo this year. This is a VERY dangerous game and BYU will have to
play their best to escape with a win.
This will be the biggest game since Duke vs Syracuse.
A win at San Diego and two wins in the WCC tournament would pretty much wrap up
the at-large NCAA berth for BYU, but anything less than that probably won't
cut it. I like the effort and confidence in the Cougs' game right now, but
the bad losses to Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine, and Pacific (the loss to Utah
doesn't look so bad after last week) are going to be killers if they
don't win the next three games.
I think Mika coming off the bench is a good stratagie
@Mildred in Filmore...Only in cowtown Filmore is YBU vs San Diego as big a game
or even close to as big as Syracuse vs Duke. Those teams do not play any games
in glorified high school gymnasiums. Cougies are N.I.T. bound. Guaranteed.
