There was certainly come political undertones. We tend to think that any message
against big corporation is a bad thing - well, it's not always. Fascism is
just as bad as socialism. There is a balance and I think LEGO nailed it in their
movie. That being said, we have to realize that the PRIMARY message of the movie
was about allowing children their creativity. It was that LEGO is a kid's
toy and not an adults collector item. That adults shouldn't
"kraggle" their blocks by the book and prevent their kids from ever
exploring the limitless possibilities of LEGO creation.
Faux News is a joke. PERIOD. Their talking heads along with the rest of the
right wing Business as a Religion crowd will accept nothing short of blind
obedience from the worker bees of the world. Minimum wage. . . never, Unions. .
. No way, EPA. . . it must go, Universal health Care. . . it's socialism.
The historical list of things the Business is a Religion crowd hate (and fought
against) must include; the 8 hour work day, 2 day weekends, social security,
paid vacations, medicare; family leave, child labor laws, and job safety
regulations. The Lego movie along w/ The Lorax, The Muppets and
Wall-e, according to Faux News are all anti-capitalist propaganda machines. What
Business as a Religion refuses to acknowledge is that their claim that they can
pillage the earth, poison our air and water and destroy the delicate balance of
the earths climate is wrong. Our actions today must be viewed with
the understand of how they will impact our children, our grandchildren and their
Socialism is indeed just as bad as Facism. Both are elites ruling over
subjugated masses, and both have the same ultimate destructive ends. And lets not lose sight of the fact that government has NEVER improved
anybody's quality of life -- except that of blood-sucking politicians and
elitist rulers. It is private enterprise (capitalism) that provides both the
incentive and the funding (whether diverted to government coffers or not) that
leads to advances that make things such as the 8 hour work day at all
possible.Leftists love to caricature the capitalist as the criminal.
While this is sometimes true, the biggest criminals of all time are leftist
leaders, such as Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot and Hitler. If we're not
talking about body count, but just financial and moral corruption, then leftist
political leaders take top prizes there too.
If any movie(s) had any statements about "commerce"; it was the 2nd
& 3rd installments in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
I thought there was a sub-plot: Dad's don't be jerks to your
it was just a movie
Back in my day, Mary Poppins got the the "political" treatment. And, I
suppose, most stories could face that charge. In this case, more people ought to
check it out - and take the kids.
Really Jared. Government has never improved anybody's quality of life? Lets
consider just a few things like. The Safe Drinking Water Act. Or how about
the Interstate Road System. Maybe the G.I Bill. That one sure did well for my
grandfather. Started the family business as a result of it. Never could have
left the farm without it. And how bout that lack of the recurring depressions
in the economy. We really haven't had a depression since the government
started regulating business. Government is an easy target. Indeed the
Government gets a lot of things wrong. But to suggest that they have never
improved anybody's quality of life is ludicrous. If this government has
truly not improved your life. try living in a third world country that is truly
run by the capitalists. There are plenty to choose from. I would venture to
suggest that the vast majority of people in those countries would trade forms of
government in a heartbeat.
It looks like a good movie. Might even see it.
I don't know--after reading this article and some of the comments here at
DN about the innocuous video of Alex Boyé's "Let It Go," I
tend to think that some people over-analyze and can't just sit back and
enjoy the show. Yes, we do have to be vigilent of bad influences, but
c'mon--sometimes you just need to enjoy the show!
JoCo Ute, you are why I don't take theophobes and left-nuts seriously, and
will never see The Lego Movie. ... See what I did there? Labels
and name-calling don't work to convince others of their errors, they harden
them into firmer enemies. If people who think differently from you are
objectively wrong, you're making the problem worse.Extra:
"Faux News" makes it difficult to take someone seriously. That's
not how "faux" if pronounced. On top of that, jabs at Fox News are
empty considering the lack of criticism MSNBC gets in comparison.
Lucky for us, the Lego Movie isn't an anti-capitalist movie. It is an
anti-totalitarian movie.Despite the name of the villian, you have to
realize that he controlled everything. His "micro-managers" put people
into place before the Kragle was applied and froze them into place. The "master builders" are like todays small businessmen. They are the
people who look at the world differently and find solutions for the problems at
hand. They are opposed by the government rules (instruction books) when they
develop new things. The bad guy (totalitarian government) failed once
the people realized that they didn't have to fit into the position that the
government put them in.To "ego" it should be said that
government has destroyed more lives than it has helped. Just look at the black
families. Before government handouts they struggled, but were improving. Since
the handouts, their familes have been destroyed.
@ Midwest City. Are the Liberals and Tree Huggers causing all the earthquakes
in OK. Maybe the citizens of OK are beginning to feel the impact of all the oil
well activities. When the quakes grow in both frequency and size, as they are
just beginning to, maybe the pro-business at any expense leaders will be able to
solve the problem as easily as they caused it. Nope!
I know no one will probably catch this comment, but I just returned from seeing
the movie and it is hilarious! How anyone can see "undertones,"
"overtones," or some sort of dark message really needs to chill out. It
is just a simple movie and one of the things that makes it so hilarious is how
it pokes fun at itself. Really. Just see it and laugh.
