Looking good utes. PAC 12 win on the road lets get it done!
Sure beats playing Wyoming and Air Force and the rest of the little teams. PAC 12 has SIX teams projected in dance. The second most of any
conference. When was the last time the Mwc or the wcc cupcakes had
half the conference in the dance?Never!
Difference I see so far in this game versus the other road games is the hustle
plays. Taylor had one of his own backfire with an open 3 made by SC, but Karai
Tucker just made a great one with the block and deflection off an SC player to
give the Utes possession. If the hustle keeps up, this should be a win on the
We dominated USC like they were a wcc nobody!
Congratulations to the University of Utah Utes on their 17th victory of the
season.Plenty of basketball left this season. Good luck Saturday.Go Utes!
Awfully early to be celebrating a win. Utes are looking good though.
Let's not get to excited about this game. USC is awful. The Utes are the
better team and should win.
Lead down to 10 points . . .
Utes did what they needed to do to get another league victory.Good
night and good luck against the Bruins.
Love with the dagger. Good game, Utes. Good to get the road monkey off their
backs. Let's hope the floodgates are now open.
It's a tall order but if the Utes can beat UCLA on the road then things
start to get real interesting.
I think Ute fans will get excited when this team gets their 36th victory in the
NCAA tourney. Slight chance it happens this season... probably next season.
Until then we can watch them get better. I don't see too many
fans that excited as of yet. But it could happen.Go Utes!
I'd be a little careful about knocking MWC teams because you beat USC. USU
beat these guys like a drum when the Ags played them.
Our Utes are trending up. Really liking what coach K is doing up on the hill!GO UTES!!!
@ CougOrUte..NaahUtah beat the Trojans 84-66 in SLC....
Aggie from Nibley, Aggies beat them by 13 at home, Utes beat them by 18 at home
(still not sure that meaningless buzzer beater that kept it from a 21 point game
got off in time, but I digress), and by 8 in the Galen Center. No, USC is not a
very good team, but any road win is a good win. Especially the first.
Whew! That was close. They certainly tried to give it away, didn't
they?Congrats to the Utes on their first Pac12 road win of the
season! Yes, I realize it was only a lowly USC team but, hey, at
least we didn't lose to Pacific! Sorry about that, little brother.
Big 12 Call Yet?I'm pretty sure the MWC had about 5 teams in
the big dance a few years ago.
Alright, let's see if they can go 4-0 vs the So Cal teams Saturday.Go Utes!
This was a nice homecoming for the trio of Taylor, Tucker, and Wright. Each one
of them contributed a lot to the W, including Tucker's 2nd half burst,
Taylor's floor management, and Wright's unbelievable moves around the
basket. Wright and Loveridge are two of the best players in the PAC 12.
It's fun to see Wright around the basket. He either scores or draws a
foul. He's too smart to pick up an offensive charge, which so many other
players get who are aggressive around the basket. Great work, Utes!
Now beat UCLA this Saturday.
It is nice to get the monkey off our back now lets continue the winnning streak
on the road Saturday against UCLA
I'd love to make some snarky comment about Utah finally winning a game
beyond the smog of the Wasatch Valley, but the brutal truth is that the Utah and
BYU basketball programs are going in opposite directions.
eg--"I'd love to make some snarky comment about Utah
finally winning a game beyond the smog of the Wasatch Valley, but the brutal
truth is that the Utah and BYU basketball programs are going in opposite
directions."The directions literally couldn't be any more
Remarkable how few of our friends such as Poyman are sharing their comments
today. Perhaps another humiliating loss by BYU has taken all the fun out of
it...Nice win Utes! Now that you have that monkey off your back,
let's see some more away games success and keep the home streak going next
week against the Arizona schools. The HC is going to be rocking next Wednesday
night. Go Utes!
It really gets old hearing Ute fans rag on other conferences and teams that are
unrelated to the article. We beat the last place USC team. It's our first
road win of the season. Are we really breaking our arms patting ourselves on the
@UteTrog This is a young team so to have them finally win on the road even
against the last place team in the PAC is a big deal. This will prove to them
that they can win on the road. Now if they can continue winning on the road this
team is going to be dangerous and next year this team will be really fun to
UteTrog,It's a significant win for several reasons. We already beat
your team in happy valley. Can't wait for your other 2 teams to visit the
HC next week.
the Trojans are barely above a middle school team. the Pac is weak. a Whopping
3,000 people at the game, lol. thought the Pac was a big boy conference?
Good road win USC was 9-4 in non conference play and 2-0 vs the Big East. Now
knock off UCLA Go Utes!
You're right, jarka-rus. Approximately 3,000 people watched Utah beat USC
last night.Waaayyyyy more fans watched Pacific beat BYU.
"I'd love to make some snarky comment about Utah . . . , but the brutal
truth . . ."EdG:That's never stopped you
@ jarka-rus U are right the PAC is big boy basketball conference that is why 6
PAC12 teams are slatted to go dancing and Joe Lunardi said they could get 7 if
Utah wins the USC, UCLA road swing and has another great run in the PAC12
tourney like they did last year. Vegas bracketology has Utah or Harvard getting
the 12 seed. That is what being in a Big 5 conference does for you.

@Crow And the SEC "perception" that they rule the world is another
farce. 6 teams, yeah Cal and Colo, Stanford perception that they are powerhouses
is another farce. Cal in no way deserves to be automatically given a ticket to
the big dance just because they are in a perceived big boy conference.
"just because they are in a perceived big boy conference."jakrus:Yet y "fans" have no problem embracing the
farcical, yet much-beloved RPI, which is premised not on HOW you play--even if
you win, but on WHO you played--even if you lose.Too bad the
y's RPI didn't scare Pacific right off the court.
jarka-rusWell, what can we say, jarka-rus, membership does indeed
have its privileges. The numbers Crow presented above look a little sporty for
a couple of conferences. For example, WCC is looking more and more like a one
pony race. The perceptions of which you speak, cut both ways my
friend. Here's one you can take to the bank...the Utes are playing with
the big boys and representing very well.
j--"6 teams, yeah Cal and Colo, Stanford perception that they
are powerhouses is another farce. Cal in no way deserves to be automatically
given a ticket to the big dance just because they are in a perceived big boy
conference."CAL has #48 ranked RPI and their ranking is #7 in
The PAC-12, as well as spot ahead of byu's, which ranks #2 in the weak
coast conf.Colorado RPI #25; Stanford RPI #46....Again, 7 PAC-12
teams rank ahead of byu in the current RPI rankings, yet only 1 wcc team
ekute"We already beat your team in happy valley"Now I'm being accused of being a BYU fan because I speak truth. Perhaps I
should evaluate my affiliation with UofU.
@UteTrogCome on bro, your a Cougar not a Ute:"I just
hope we show up [vs Oregon]. If we lose by less than 20, it's a win in my
book." -- Jan 2, 2014"We're going nowhere this year.
Lucky if we get an NIT bid." -- Jan. 12, 2014"At least they
were invited [to a bowl game], unlike us.""Oregon State is
NOT that good of a team, inconsistent at best. beating them is not
noteworthy." -- Jan 6, 2014"You make a good point. I just
checked rivals and Utah is dead last in the PAC 12 for recruiting classes this
year. Only one four star recruit, so we better not put an emphasis on the stars
this year." -- Feb 5, 2014
Jarka, Cal and Colorado are teams most likely to drop in the the
second half of conference play. Both have difficult schedules and could fall
squarely into bubble territory. Colorado has some quality nonconference wins
which will help them, Cal does not. If Cal loses 4-5 of their remaining 7 games
(a real possibility), they probably won't get in. Stanford is
trending up and has a better RPI than Cal, so I expect them to finish strong and
get in. That leaves the possibility that Cal or Colorado could drop to the
lower-middle tier and be on the bubble. It is so ironic that BYU fans
heralded their win against "Big" 12 opponent Texas in football,
neglecting to mention the Big 12 was way down this year in football. Then you talk about the SEC, neglecting to mention that between Kentucky and
Florida, the SEC has more NCAA basketball titles in the last decade than the WCC
in its entire history. Get over yourself about conference affiliation already.
I'm happy the Utes finally broke the seal on the road last night. I was a
pretty ugly game overall but they did what it took to get a win. USC isn't
very good at all but they do cause some match up problems for the Utes and they
play very physical. It's just good to see the evolution of this
team. Coach K has done a good job in coaching up his players. More and more
guys are stepping up and knocking down shots. The begining of the season it was
all Wright and Loveridge but now we have several guys who can score. It's
good timing that Brandon Taylor has finally come out of his shooting slump. He
made some big shots last night when the Utes needed them. The Utes
eclipsed last years conference win total last night as well with a handful of
games left to play. The Utes are definitely headed in the right direction.Go Utes!
Nice job Utes!! Up for a sweep of UCLA next!!GO Utes!! Onward and
As bad as USC is, let's remember that they DID beat Cal at home. Every
road game is dangerous in the big leagues, bad teams or not!
@jarka-rus"a Whopping 3,000 people at the game"Let's look at attendance at some of byU's losses in the wcc:Loyola - 2,908Pepperdine - 2,317Portland - 2,813Nobody can accuse the wcc as a big boy's conference!!
Officially, 3,217 watched Utah beat USC. 4,058 watched Pacific beat BYU. Some
more, but not that impressive either.
@UteTrogSorry bro, you didn't play it very well. What you
attempted to do is kinda sad, but no one is buying that you're a Utah fan.
@ jarka-rusHave you ever heard the phrase about throwing stones in a
UteologySo you picked out five of my quotes where I'm keeping
things real. I see you conveniently left out all of my quotes speaking highly of
us. But then, I guess there are Ute fans (as there are BYU fans) who just
can't bear to have a fan on "their side" speak from an objective
stand point. Thanks for your false accusation. But no, I'm not
a BYU fan.
truthsandwich"Sorry bro, you didn't play it very well. What
you attempted to do is kinda sad, but no one is buying that you're a Utah
fan."It's a good thing, 'bro', that I don't
need anyone's validation on which team I cheer for. But fans who call into
question someone's affiliation based on a few hand picked quotes shows just
how baseless anyone's accusations can be on these boards. It's sad
really, that someone can be a realistic fan of a team only to watch fellow
"fans" accuse them of not being a fan. As though some people on this
board have some ultimate say on who is and isn't a fan. I guess since I
don't preach that we're going to the rose bowl every year and are
destined for the final four every year, that I don't count as Utah fan. I
wonder if Washington State fans are treated this way because, let's face
it, they aren't going anywhere either anytime soon.
Oh and that mighty showdown against Wazzoo and Cal, 1900, yeah big boys.
@ jarka-rusMost 5A high schools in Utah play in gyms equal in size
or bigger than the one BYU is about to play (and probably lose) in. Anything
you say about the PAC-12 just looks bitter.
