didn't they just loose to the Raptors at home last week?
Dang, our high draft pick is slipping away!
"And with the 1st pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, the Los Angeles Lakers select
.... (Parker/Wiggins, etc).Yuck.
hard to get excited when the Jazz slug it out and struggle with other basement
There's your Alec Burks people. How do you like him now?
I've been pounding the table on these comment boards that Burks needs to be
starting and getting big minutes in place of Richard Jefferson. Jefferson can be
the spark off the bench. What's the big deal about that you ask? The big
deal is that when it becomes time to resign Burks you better believe other teams
will commit the starting job to him. Also, Jefferson has made it clear he wants
to play for a title contender next year because his days in the league are
getting short so he won't even be here next year. Why does that make him a
starter over a better player like Burks?
I agree with Doug10...It's hard to get excited when they defeat a team as
crippled as the Lakers are at this point....which brings on the question....How
bad are they "really" hurt?? Their situation reminds me so much of the
year David Robinson and Sean Elliott...the leaders of the Spurs basketball
team....both got hurt and laid out the end of the season. This put the Spurs in
primo position to get Tim Duncan, which they did, and the rest is history. As for this year's Jazz team, they appear to be about on the same
plane as the team was last year from an ability standpoint....but a lot
younger...They'll draft in the top 10, and should get a player....But you
can bet that unless they do some wheeling and dealing, it won't be Parker,
or Wiggins, or Randle...and I'm hoping it won't be the hot
I like him B RUSS, Burks appears to have the most potential on this team. Good
to see Jeremy Evans contributing as well. Wish we were losing though.
@ American Vet:Burks is getting as much as, or sometimes even more
playing time than some of the starters. That's the reason he's been
scoring so much and doing so well. It doesn't appear to bother him about
coming off the bench as long as he gets the minutes he feels he deserves. Coach Corbin says Burks has adjusted to and accepted his role of coming
off the bench. In fact, by doing so, his numbers are now better than ever. One other factor... starters who do well are usually in higher demand as
free agents and command higher salaries than players who come off the bench. As
such, maybe there's a financial incentive for the Jazz to do what
they're doing... until after they resign him to a longer contract. After undrafted Matthews was made a Jazz starter toward the end of the season
a few years ago, he then got more attention from other teams and Portland
consequently paid a lot of money to steal him away from the Jazz. It was a big
loss for us. Perhaps the Jazz are trying to avoid a similar mistake with Burks.
If there is a potential star on this team it is Alec Burkes. He was a
mess at the beginning of this season. He really was nothing but an occasional
flash last season. Look at all the progress he has made. Who has
shown more progress/improvement?On top of that he has an elite NBA
skill that stars have. He gets to the free throw line and he does it more than
any other Jazz player. If he continues to develop better defense
and improved outside shooting he would be an all around nightmare for the
opposition. Even the defense is livable as it is just not great. There are
alot of good offensive players that don't play a ton of defense. When Hayward was out Burkes averaged more PPG than Hayward did as a
starter. It would certainly be an interesting experiment to see what
he could provide if he consistently played 36 minutes a game.Burkes
has confidence and swagger that Hayward obviously lacks.Hayward
looks like the pressure of not signing a contract last summer/playing for one
this season is going to make his head explode almost every game. My guess? He
regrets not signing.
My money is on the Bucks to get the first draft pick. All the west has got is a
prayer and Orlando is in the east. Look at the box score. Hayward, Kantor,
Burkes, Evans and Favors should be starting. Make a second unit out of the
rest.Hayward is not regretting for one second that he didn't
take the Jazz offer. Watch what he gets. To keep him Jazz will have to pay more
than he asked for.
I'd bet Jefferson and Williams are both in other uniforms within two weeks.
I think that's why they signed Thomas several weeks ago. Maybe not both,
but one will be gone by the trade deadline. I think that will open up playing
time for several other players like Ian Clark and maybe force Burks into the
starting lineup. Maybe it's time to bring Hayward off the bench, he played
better off the bench last year.
@objectifiedMost players in the league will say what their coaches want to
hear, like "I just want to contribute and I'll do whatever coach asks
me to do". And yes, Burks time on the floor has definitely gone up with his
improved play. But, I don't believe for a second that Burks, or any other
player in the league doesn't want to start. Also, the Jazz aren't
hiding Burks from other teams by not starting him. Every team in the league has
a whole staff of people that are paid to evaluate all the players in the league.
Burks is very definitely on the radar of every team in the league knowing his
rookie deal ends next year. I'm sure Burks would love to be a starter and
he deserves to be starting. The Jazz need to show Burks that he is a main cog on
this team by starting him so it improves our chance to be able to resign him.
Finally, he is probably the most talented player on the team. Why should
Jefferson be starting ahead of him?
To be honest...i think now is the time for Dennis to gamble...we now know what
we have in Hayward..and we know what we could get with burks...we know that Enes
is still far away on making his 3rd overall selection justifiable...and i think
at this next draft we could get a SF that is or at par with hayward with the
warriors pick...if we could sign and trade Hayward and Kanter and the warriors
pick to whoever gets the number 1 pick...we could get Joel Embiid...we still
have our own pick...where in we could draft Dario Saric...he would be our
SF...we would have Embiid at C Favors PF Saric SF Burks SG Burke PG....we would
get Neto as a backup...Ian clark would get his minutes at the 2...Evans can
split time at the 3 and 4...while Gobert can improve with his minutes as a 5...
