I have been a happily married woman for over 20 years. My parents have been
happily married for over 40. I learned a secret from my mom over years of
watching her and my father. The secret is this....NEVER put your
children's needs above your spouse. We would often ask my mom who she loved
the best....her answer was simply I love your father the best and the rest of
you the same. Children grow up and move away, but your spouse is forever. I
never forgot this lesson and have incorporated this into my own marriage and
have never been sorry for it.
People who think marriage should be child-centric should read this article. It
clearly shows why marriage should also (and first) be adult-centric with
one's mate. Children are with their parents for a few years; mates are
with each other for their lives (or for eternity, depending on the covenants
they make with each other). Good article.
