There is nothing inherently wrong with drinking Alcohol. Teach kids what is
right and drop the minimum age to drink to 18. If the government can mandate
that men at 18 register with the selective service and be eligible for war, then
stop the hypocrisy and let him have a drink.
Congrats, Utah, something you folks down south can be proud of! This world would
be a much better place it no one ever consumed alcohol!
Why people under 18 should not drink (from The Surgeon General's "Call
to Action" program:- Increases the risk of physical and sexual
assault.- Is associated with academic failure.- Is associated with
illisit drug use.- Is associated with tobacco use.- Can cause a
range of physical consequences, from hangovers to death from alcohol
poisoning.- Can cause alterations in the structure and function of the
developing brain, which continues to mature into the mid- to late twenties, and
may have consequences reaching far beyond adolescence.- Creates secondhand
effects that can put others at risk...- Is a risk factor for heavy
drinking later in life,... including cancers. After having quoted
that, and being in the military myself, I don't see those risks for someone
who is 18 and in the military. In fact, military members have a better chance
of succeeding in life because of the experiences they gain in the military.
I suppose the Zion Curtain helps those families who are not able to establish
stable relationships with their teens, and therefore are not able to prevent
teen drinking without this curtain.Meanwhile, guns have a bigger,
more negative effect on our children than alcohol does, yet for some reason, the
same people who support this Zion Curtain feel it is up to the gun owner to keep
their children safe. One has to chose their battles, and I guess this
Zion Curtain helps the Legislators sleep at night, while there are more
important safety issues that they simply avoid.
Alcohol has no reedeming value. It only takes away from who you really
are.Drinking is damaging to the individual and society.Great job Utah!
