Never like to see injuries, but its part of the game. Most teams are at least a
little banged up by now. Can't wait for the Gonzaga game. Crazy
to think that not even the best team in the powerful WCC is ranked in the AP
poll. I believe byu is 0-5 against Gonzaga since joining the WCC. I would be
shocked if byu keeps it under a 10 point loss.
Good luck to BYU in the Great Northwest this week!------------CBCrazy to think that the mighty PAC 12 only has one team
ranked in either poll."I believe BYU is 0-5 against Gonzaga
since joining the WCC."Nice try, but BYU beat Gonzaga 83-73 in
their very first meeting in the WCC, after destroying the Bulldogs 89-67 in the
2nd round of the NCAA tournament the year before.
Blue- the PAC 12 also has three more teams receiving top 25 votes in the AP and
four more more in the coaches. Only Gonzaga has received any votes in either.
So 5 out of the 12 PAC 12 teams have votes in the coaches poll. In the history
of the powerful wcc has there ever been a week where 5 wcc teams received votes?
Per ESPN the PAC 12 is the #3 conference in the country. The wcc? 10.
Blue- and who could forget byu destroying Gonzaga in the second round. After
all, that lone sweet 16 was the furthest byu has gone in the big dance in 30
Hmmmm I must have missed the part of this article that was about Utah. Good
luck to Austin with the ankle. BYU can't afford to have a solid big man go
down. We need a strong showing at Portland who can be very dangerous. I hope
Mika has learned not to go throwing his body at people-- it's called
"hardwood" for a reason. Go Coug's!!
Hate to see guys get injured, but this may actually boost production for the
team, although it does take away a guy that commits a large number of their
fouls, which will force Mika to need to play very smart to not pick up as many
So sorry to hear of Nate's injury! Even sadder to know we have no other
big man to step in for him. Hope that Worthington boy will finally show us why
he's still in the team. He hasn't been doing much so far so maybe
here's his opportunity to really showcase what he has. We need him to step
in and make a difference, unless there's another big man there somewhere
they can put in. As for the tiresome "my dad is better than your
dad" argument as to which conference is better, which has more rank teams,
play in bigger stadiums, etc, etc. I wish it would stop and we can all just
enjoy the excitement of competition regardless of which conference we belong to.
There's so much parity is sports it's silly to constantly brag about
how big, how powerful, or even how so much better one is as to oppose to
another. Any team can beat another on any given night regardless of which
conference they belong to.
really? now the Utes are resorting to which conference has more teams
"receiving votes" to prove "they" are a good team? How about
just look at the RPI. We all know the PAC12 has decent teams most
years…..those teams just aren't located in SLC….ever.
KenAlso, according to ESPN,#40 BYU#123 UtahBeing in the #3 conference doesn't mean much when you're
ranked dead last in RPI in said conference.BYU is still in the mix
for an at-large NCAA berth.Utah isn't even in the picture.
l agree with the Samoan. In the NCAA conference affiliation counts for nothing.
It really is a tournament of really good teams regardless of conference.Conference comparisons are lame. Gonzaga was ranked #1 for a lot of last
year if my memory is correct. And didn't BYU beat mighty
Washington in the NIT last year? And Oregon before that? And Stanford this year?
And Utah a bunch of years? It only takes one superstar to make a
college team very good. Two and you're dancing. And San Francisco won two
NCAA championships with KC Jones and Bill Russell.
Sorry to learn that Nate Austin tweaked his ankle. This will give
Josh Sharp and Luke Worthington an opportunity to play for a few more minutes.
In my opinion, BYU did not give up that much when Mika was out with his injury
and Josh and Luke were called upon to try to fill the void. BYU is better with
Mika in the game. Josh is an animal on the boards and has an unbelievable slam
dunk.Austin is great on defense but has not produced a lot scoring
wise. Worthington needs more experience. This will be good for Josh
souptwins, I missed the part of the article about Utah, as well. What's
funnier is that you were the first one to mention them. Even more that TrueBlue
was the first one to mention the PAC-12 in an article where they aren't
mussingaroundPalo Alto, CAKinda sad, yet entertaining the
interest in all things Utah and PAC 12 coming from our friends in blue. I guess
when you are an Independant with annually weak schedules and are in a conference
of West Coast "also rans" you need to fill your day with a team (Utah)
and a conference(PAC 12) that is actually relevant.
Mika needs to quit being so chippy and just play the game. He lets his emotions
get the best of him and he'll lose everytime. Also, I worry about seeing a
kid his age wearing double knee braces and getting injured as often as he has.
Good Luck to all and heal quickly.Go UTES
Ken and Lonestar....i have a better idea of determining the better team, than
rpi rating? Why dont we play each other and see who wins...wow, that
is a great idea to me.When should we do it?
What's with the elbow pads on the sleeves that Austin wears?
Sweater In Rafters"Why don't we play each other and see who
wins..."Yes, that's soooo definitive.Like
USC(1-5) beating Cal(5-1)?Proving exactly what?That one
of the worst teams in the PAC is BETTER than one of the best teams in the
conference?Or maybe, it simply proves the validity of a little thing
called "home court advantage", and that beating a team at home
doesn't necessarily prove that you are BETTER.Why does the NCAA
try so hard NOT to schedule teams to play 1st and 2nd round NCAA tournament
games on their home court?
Sorry to hear about Nate's injury and here's hoping to a quick and
speedy recovery!@Wookie,I agree with you on the point
that Mika allows his emotions to get the better of him. He had better get it in
check, or he's fouling out. And he doesn't wear double knee braces,
he wears shin guards. When you're a big man down low in the paint, you get
kicked a LOT. Whether is be inadvertant or purposely.@Eddie Would
Go,With elbows as sharp as Austin's, he'd either crack
them when he hits the ground when he's bowled over, or slice up an opponent
like a scalpel. LOL.
Why are there all of these arguments about conference. I have said it before,
and will say it again, just because your brother's wife is hot, that does
not mean YOUR wife is hot. Just because your conference is good, does not mean
that YOUR team is good. Unless you want to perpetuate the whole "PAC 12
Fan" thing, stop bringing up how great the successful teams in your
conference are. I do not care how hot your brother's wife is.
54-IQ"Kinda sad, yet entertaining the interest in all things
Utah and PAC 12 coming from our friends in blue."It's
hysterically funny that a BYU hater/Utah fan is posting smack about BYU fan
interest in "all things Utah and PAC 12" on a BYU BASKETBALL ARTICLE!btw, in ESPN's latest Bracketology, BYU is included as a #11 seed,
on the bubble, but IN the tournament, as opposed to Utah, which isn't even
in the picture.--------------KenThe BYU team
that stomped Gonzaga in the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament was projected to be
a national championship contender before Davies was suspended. Given that BYU
lost their 2nd best player and only legitimate post player just before the post
season began, BYU did quite well coming within a single missed free throw in
regulation of beating Florida to advance to the Elite Eight.Regardless, BYU has played in 6 NCAA tournaments and won 4 NCAA tournament
games since the last time Utah won a game in the Big Dance almost a decade ago.
VladhagenUtah fans are forced to brag about their conference
affiliation, because the Utes have done absolutely NOTHING themselves since
joining the conference.4-5, 3-6, 2-7 = 9-18 in football - bowl-less
in 2 of 3 seasons3-15, 5-13, 3-3 = 11-31 in basketball - no NCAA
tournamentsThe Utes have been a bottom dweller in nearly every PAC
12 sport and haven't even come close to winning a conference championship,
let alone a national championship, in any sport, since joining the
conference. The only PAC 12 program on the hill that's even
competitive is women's gymnastics, and the Red Rocks now play 2nd fiddle to
Snack PAC"The Utes have been a bottom dweller in nearly every

volleyball made it to the Sweet Sixteen last.BYU women's soccer made
it to the Elite Eight last year.BYU men's volleyball played in the
national championship game last year.BYU men's cross-country finished
fourth in the nation this year.BYU men's rugby won the national
championship last year. (a club sport, but one that Utah competes in and a sport
that used to be dominated by Utah's California PAC 12 mates)BYU
is currently ranked #11 in the Directors' Cup, which ranks overall athletic
success across all men's and women's sports. And just for
grins:The Cougarettes have won TWELVE national championships,
including TWO last year.
