"Welcome to the party pal!"
So Harvey acknowledges he made movies with "egregious violence" and has
had a change of heart and decided he will no longer make such violent films and
conservatives are mad? There is just no pleasing some people.
Hollywood also hates our bad air. They are here attending the film festival in
Park City. They would not move here because of the pollution. They prefer to
live in L.A. where they eat the bad air 365 days a year. We eat it for about 21
days a year.
Excellent article Doug. I really, sincerely, ardently wish there were at least
a few honest people in Hollywood who might actually understand and accept what
you're saying.Sadly, as I'm sure you are only too aware,
honesty, integrity, even simply decency are in ever diminishing supply in
Hollywood. And, worse still, since they are so effective in promoting their
corruption, the rest of the country and world. All of which,
ironically enough, gives everyone more reason to own a gun.
Hollywood against gun violence? That is so laughable I have a side ache! Right
on Doug - another thoughtful and poignant column exposing the hypocrisy of many
...do as i say,not as i do... the only thing liberals are good at
"I'll Be Back!"I'am really looking forward to the
Meryl Streep movie that is supposed to put the NRA in such negative light.
I'll bet that, as usual, any attack on them will result in more and more
guns being bought and sold in America.
Phranc--I will give Weinstein credit when he actually donates all his profits
from those violent films to charity. Otherwise it's exactly as Doug
stated: blatant. rank hypocrisy. Just like most liberals on gun rights--they
have no problem with armed bodyguards, but us plebs can only puke on attackers.
Ask any Democratic politician from Colorado.
Hollywood hypocrisy covers global warming and the carbon footprint issue.
During Sundance festival drive by the east side of the airport and count the
many private jets parked waiting to ferry their owners around the world, burning
all kinds of fossil fuel.
As a husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, neighbor, and all around good
guy I feel that we should have more guns. Gun violence is perpetrated by people
who are criminal, insane, high, drunk, terrorists, etc. If we tweak the law to
take care of the bad guys and put them away for a long, long time and up the
penalties for criminals with guns, then I might support that.I'm a law abiding citizen and frankly, I'm not going to commit any
gun violence any time soon.My bet is Weinsteen and company all have
body guards that have guns, or they have them themselves but just don't
want us to know it. Kind of like Rosie O'Donnel and her blatant hypocrisy
when she slammed Tom Selleck.
JSF ... Don't forget the Heber Valley airport near Park City. You can
always see private jets that have flown in there as well.
Phranc....It's not just Harvey, and let's hope he's had a true
change of heart, it's Hollywood in general. They haven't had this
change of heart, have they? The H in Hollywood actually stands for Hypocrisy.
I notice not too many of the usual liberal defenders are commenting on this
story and I'm not surprised. Some stories and people are just
indefensible. But, since Hollywood is so gullible for this kind of stuff, they
might as well go ahead and engrave the Oscar for Best Picture, and Best Actress
(Meryl Streep) when she does her Mrs. Smith goes to Washington to get rid of
guns in America thing, as Harvey says it will be. Maybe someone should send Mr.
Weinstein a copy of the Bill of Rights with the 2nd Amendment highlighted.
To happy2bhere:Where in the second amendment does it say we can own
automatic weapons? When the founding fathers created the constitution you could
fire 2 bullets every minute. Now you can fire 2,000 bullets a minute from one
gun. Why stop at guns? Why not let every citizen own grenades? Or tanks? Or
small chemical weapons to defend their home?By the way the second
amendment, if you know how to read it right, promises that a militia can have
weapons and guns. A militia. Not ordinary citizens.
Here is my plan. Stop paying any money to the trash coming out of Hollywood.
Refuse to buy movie tickets, Blurays, downloads, etc. of anything out of
Hollywood. Give them zero dollars and boy things will change in a hurry.
Great article! Hollywood is only interested in whatever brings in the cash.
Unfortunately, we are all buying into it far too often.
Where was Hollywood after Newtown? They paused violent movies for about 1.5 days
and then went on with business as usual. If they were really serious, they would
have stopped all the gun violence a long time ago. I hold both sides
in contempt: the we-need-more-and-bigger-weapons NRA, and Hollywood and the
left who portray violence as entertainment. Both fringes are to blame (as usual)
for the mess we are in. And let's not forget the rest of us who have paid
good money to see Django etc.
"2,000 bullets a minute from one gun" The heat would melt the whole gun
from trying to fire 2,000 bullets a minute.
Meryl Street!? Say it isn't so Harvey! What law abiding citizen who also
owns a gun or two will be able to resist that? Can't you cast Paris Hilton
or Lady Gaga instead? Anyone else? Please Harvey! We won't be able to
resist Meryl. We promise we'll be good with our guns - we swear! Just give
us one more chance!
@church member,I am afraid you will lose that argument, should it rear up
again. Your talking points have been refuted so many times.....sigh. This article is so spot on. Hollywood loves to make movies about guns;
unrealistic and certainly not plausible movies about guns. Major explosions
from miniature causes, rampant destruction from minimal force, never have to
reload or aim, just shoot and hit. Rake in the dollars from the movies about
guns and violence...business as usual.
Vanceone,He may have recognized the damage this does and gives the money
back. But as long as the films are available, they continue to have their
influence. If they truly regret it, they will exercise their copyright and pull
them.jsf,A minigun with it's 6 barrels can fire up to
6,000 rpm.The 30 mm gun on an A-10 Warthog fires 4,000 rpm.But the
record belongs to the Metalstorm with a single barrel firing 45,000 rpm!And the 35 barrel version will do a million rpm, just not for very long.
Church MemberA well regulated militia. That was in its day, the
people, not the police or military. The organization of those were dealt with
in other parts of the constitution prior to the Bill of Rights. The Bill of
Rights was always about giving the people, citizen, individule, rights and
protections against the government. Not about empowering the government to form
a military. Just imagine the following amendment. The need of privacy being
necessary to a free society, the right of a women to have an abortion shall not
be infringed. You think there would be any argument from the pro choice crowd
about that? Of course not. As for the types of "arms" referred to, in
their day those guns were considered the "state of the art" in weapons.
So it could be said that an AR-15 is roughly equal to the matchlock gun of that
Doug, I agree whole-heartedly. What we, the viewers, should do is refuse to see
any of these movies in a theater or at home or anywhere. I regret very much that
my children have viewed violent movies, likewise my grandchildren, over whom I
don't have that much influence. We need to shut Hollywood ideals down by
refusing to buy them.
@ church member:A well-armed militia in those days was comprised of
ordinary citizens, who most often brought their weapons- from home.@Mark from Montana:Amen to what you and others said. It's all of
us (collectively) that are paying money for those movies. We are drinking the
Hollywood kool-aid. If all we pursue are non-violent films, we'd see them
all but disappear. There is apparently a large part of our population that
loves these shows. The blame goes to the sheep that flock to whatever
is dished out. May we change.
