"The Utes have NO CHANCE of beating UCLA"LOL! Keep it up
naysayers.Utah is now #6 in the prestigious Pac 12, one of the best
conferences in the nation.Utah is .500 against ranked teams and the
only team in the state with a win over a ranked team.Go ahead and
say we can't win on the road - you said we couldn't beat UCLA.Go UTES!
The season began with which team was best in the state and which school had the
best player. Now the only question remaining is this:Is
the best player in the state Wright or Loveridge?I called it at the
beginning of the season, Utah has the talent to finish #4-5 in the Prestigious
Pac 12.Onward. Upward
5 years ago I never could have imagined we'd be beating up on top 25
powerhouse UCLA at our place in Pac 12 conference play. One, because we
weren't very good. And two, we were in a lesser conference. I
love coach K, this program, these players, and our conference! One
thing I've noticed about being in the Pac 12 is the respect the schools
have for each other. Sure, we want to beat them and its great to have rivals
like UCLA and top 25 Colorado, but at the end of the day we respect each other.
I don't hate any Pac 12 schools. We all cheer for our teams and respect
each other. Go Utes!
2013 Ute Seniors SWEEP byU 4-0,Brandon Taylor and Dakarai Tucker might
want to chime in on who's the best player in the state.Seriously,
it's Delon Wright hands down, he's one of the best all around players
in the conference. Fun to watch. Go Runnin' Utes!
Recently there has been a lot a talk about whether Utah will make it into the
dance or not. Making it to the dance is one thing but showing up and winning
games in NCAA tournament is the true measuring stick for the Utes.NCAA Tournament History:Champions 1X (sure, there is the AAU and NIT
championship too)Championship Game 2XFinal Four 4XElite Eight
6XSweet Sixteen 15X… last appearance 2005Tournament
Appearances 27XConference Champions 36X… last time 2009As bad as this recent draught has been, both Giacoltti and Boylen, two of
Utah’s worst coaches, they still had overall winning records. Krystkowiak just might be another great coach like Gardner, Pimm or Majerus. I
sure hope so.Go University of Utah Utes!
Great win Utah! I'm not the least bit shocked you all won. And being in a
very good league if not 1 of the best leagues. It's very hard to win on
the road. It's supposed to be. That is how you know you're in a good
league! Keep it up and you WILL start winning a few on the road! I predict to
see you all in March round of 65 or 70....or whatever it's up to now :-)
Either way great game good luck!Go Aggies!Go Utes!
The key is to do it consistently. I would expect the Utes to beat every team in
the PAC 12 over a 3 to 4 year period at some point. I don't wish the Utes
any ill will, not at all - just the opposite. But it is too soon to crow just
because of the UCLA win. The pre-conference schedule was pretty weak, and how
they play it out through the rest of the season will be the key. If they do
well, then perhaps the weak schedule may have been a good strategy (unlike BYU
who may have over scheduled and burned out that young team.). Let's not
strut until we have more to struct about.
Thanks for the history lesson. Unfortunately for U, it doesn't reflect the
recent reality.During the Dave Rose era, aka, post Majerus and
Bogut:BYU 221-73(75%), 6 NCAAs(4-6), 2 NITs(3-2), 4 conf champs, 8
20+ win seasons, 1 Nat'l POYUtah 129-141(48%), 1 NCAA(0-1), 1 conf
champ, 6 losing seasons, 4-12 versus BYUDespite Utah's upset
win over soon to be unranked UCLA, the Utes are still winless on the road this
season, 1-19 versus conference opponents on the road since joining the PAC
12.A team that can't win conference games on the road
doesn't have a chance of finishing in the upper half of the conference, let
alone, get a NCAA tourney bid.
Rose Bowl CallYou should probably be more concerned about your own
team's performance on the road. Losing to nobodies in gymnasiums would
certainly have me questioning how good my team actually is. There isn't a
Utah fan around that doesn't realize that the Utes now need to start
winning on the road. In the PAC 12 this is a very difficult task. Just ask the
two LA teams; and I mean real teams, not LMU, St.Mary's or Pepperdine.
Great win over UCLA, so good to the growing fab interest. If they pick up at
least one win, 2 would be great, on this 3 game road trip, we can look to a
decent seed in the Conference Tournament. Then who knows, an NCAA bid?
Rose bowl,Why not stay consistent and include, say, back to 1984 in
basketball and compare the heights of the two programs?
There is no need to compare. Enjoy the current success of the team. Right now
the Utes can beat most teams at home. That is what is important. Fill up the
seats with fans and get behind the program!!Utah will probably
struggle on the road. All teams do. However, these guys have confidence and
have been in every game so far. There is no reason to expect the Utes to play
any different than what they have so far. I am expecting 2-1 on this trip.
Utah didn't have a chance to beat Stanford in football, but they still did
and ended up not going to a bowl game. I give a nod for the victory against
UCLA, but only two quality wins, both at home, is not going to convince anyone
but a die hard fan. A victory against former #25 UCLA is not going to propel
Utah into the NCAA tournament. We'll see if Utah can do anything on the
road and we'll see if Utah didn't just get up for their one
"Stanford" game. Otherwise, it's the same ol' Utes.
"Same ol' Utes?" Do you know what that is right now? Its a team
on an upward trajectory. Its amazing that we're even having this
discussion right now, considering where we have been. If the Utes somehow make
the NCAA tourney thats just a cherry on top of a great season of improvement.
If they get to the NIT this year thats a great step in the right direction. Look where this team is headed. They lose two players following this
season, Lenz and Van Dyke (Mission). They will add to this years roster two top
100 recruits. Makes me a little bit giddy. Go Utes!
cougar--"We'll see if Utah can do anything on the road and
we'll see if Utah didn't just get up for their one
'Stanford' game. Otherwise, it's the same ol' Utes."I don't know how this sort of comment gets through....It adds zero
to the discussion, but I'll go ahead and set the record straight on it--Football--The sole L we were completely out of well into the 4th-quarter
was our game at UO and even then it took most of the game for UO to pull away
against our walk-on B.U. QB....Therefore, in order to qualify for "getting
up" for a game, it's not only Ws which qualify as such.Basketball--Would you disqualify us from having "gotten up", for
instance, for our OT L by 2 points against UO, since we didn't emerge from
it victoriously? If yes, then the same applies for byu's performance
against UO, as well. How about our down to the wire 2-PT L at BSU, a
Tourney team last season returning all 5 starters and rarely ever loses at home?
Did we not adequately "get up" for this game, too?
It should be noted regarding our road games that we've only played 3
total/all 3 collectively by a whopping 7 points to date and how this is
typically a learning process for such a young/inexperienced team as ours
is....Yet, we're a matter of 1-2 plays at the game's end from being
3-0....Not unlike our game in provo last season when we led virtually from
start-to-finish, yet failed to close it out and lost by the "blow-out"
margin of 3 points. This season is essentially only YR-2 in Coach
K's rebuilding process, as '11 was a throw-away year for us....Coach K
should be 2-0 against rose over these 2 seasons, this last one in an epic
display of Coach K out-coaching him in humiliating-fashion, and I suspect
he'll straight own rose going forward, as well. These
aren't excuses, but rather irrefutable statements of fact....Moral
victories are for losers....What I saw against UCLA was a bunch of young kids
learning from previous failures in successfully closing the game out and
emerging from it victoriously!Go Utes!
It is true, the Utes have proven nothing yet. We don't need the RPI police
chiming in every 5 seconds telling us how bad Utah's nonconference schedule
is. Memo received, message acknowledged, move on.This young team
needs more volume and quality wins to even be considered for a postseason
tournament, let alone the NCAA. This isn't about whether a win
over UCLA suddenly propelled them into consideration for a postseason berth and
now they are going to tear up the conference. It is about improved talent
coming together, gaining confidence, competing in every game, improving over
last year, and giving themselves a chance to win.The PAC 12 is one
of the more balanced conferences in the nation and it is hard to win in this
league. The fact is, Utah was competitive in football and will likely win more
games in basketball this year than last. It is far too early in conference to
tell how good this team can be, but we like what we see nonetheless.
"It should be noted regarding our road games that we've only played 3
total..."Blame Hill and coach k for only scheduling one non-conf
road game.It still doesn't change the fact that the Utes have
only won 1 conf and 1 non-conf road game total in the last three seasons
And Cal just lost to USC, the Pac is vastly overrated, Zona is the big dog,
after that its mediocrity all across the board.
jarkarus, obsess much about the PAC-12? The #3 rated conference in America is
projected to get six NCAA tournament invites. You can count on one finger the
number of invites the mighty #10 WCC will get.
