Paying people not to work, is taking a toll out of the working person. Not all, but most of us can earn our keep. This is great news!
Democrats hold the majority, and with the nuclear option, they have no one to
blame but themselves. The Republicans wanted to attach a bill that would stop
people here illegally for claiming earned income credit on their taxes, at a
cost of 4.2 billion per year to the taxpayer. This would balance out the 25
billion dollar cost for extended benefits over the next five years. If allowed,
it would of had full Republican support, but Reid killed the benefits to save
the earned income credit to those here illegally. He put illegal
workers over Americans (again).
"...Republicans say that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.,
didn’t allow them to amend the legislation; Reid says that Republicans
filibustered and used procedure to cloak the fact that they didn’t want to
restore benefits in the first place...".The above quote should
have said...It is reported that... Republicans say... or that...
Reid says...Not only is what Republicans say or what Reid
says...suspect...The person doing the reporting is also using their
personal filter as they interpret the news.Without specific context
or an audio report...Who knows what was said?
Harry does it again, blocking the thing and then blaming the Republicans.
(Remember that it wasn't that long ago, was it, that George Bush was the
cause of every problem in America?)I have a solution: Give them
some of those "Shovel-Ready Jobs" that Obama was always talking about.
That should reduce the unemployment rolls by tens of thousands.
It is disgusting that a majority of the 100 Senators cannot find a single
program they can cut a dollar form... other than disabled veterans benefits...
when we are $17 trillion in debt.Besides the fact that it is an
incentive NOT to find work, we simply cannot afford to give away money to
unemployed folks forever.Thankfully, Mike Lee at least fights hard
to stop the insane spending. Our other Senator, you know the one
that has been there while Congress ran up most of the $17 trillion in debt,
seems to be mute and invisible on the issue.
Studies have shown the longer a person remains unemployed, the less likely that
person will find a job. There may be many reasons why that is true but it proves
extending unemployment benefits does no one a favor, in fact it harms them!
It doesn't leave them without benefits. States carry the bulk of the
unemployment payouts. This just doesn't provid the extension the federal
gov't tacked on top of what the states already provide. It is sad too many
of us can do a better job of reporting than reporters do.
Since both Parties refused to include the UI benefits extension in the Budget
when it was passed we now have this problem. Should we: 1) Pass the
UI extension unfunded and create more debt for future generations? 2) Fund
the extension by cutting from a Budget that was already increased by eliminating
some of the cuts that were helping to get it closer to being balanced?
When I was younger lost my Job all there was for unemployment was nine weeks.
Now it is 99 weeks? that is almost two years. if you can't find work in
your local area might think about moving to were the work is. Now on another
note This Economy is not in recovery mode Like the President and his Lackies in
the Media would like you to think. This is the worst economy ever under Obama.
and it is going to get worse. Elections have long term repercutions.
North Dakota and Alaska always seem to have jobs, and not enough people to fill
How anyone could defend our politicians in Washington, including the worst
president of the last two centuries, is beyond me! When it is considered success
to extend unemployment benefits, rather than unleashing the productivity of the
free market, it is duplicity of epic proportions! President Baraack Obama, as
well as every other politican, knows what creates opportutunity and work, but
when you prefer suffering over joy, power over service, patronization over
honesty, then you have what we have today: Malaise, as Jimmy Carter was wont to
say, high unemployment, and suffering! How long must we suffer? When Americans
are sick of the rat's nest in Washington, the suffering may not cease, but
millions will once more speak of liberty, opportunity, and joy!
stanfunky - I appreciate your comment. As a single woman, I am always thinking
that I should move there. This is giving me even more incentive.
@RRB: "Democrats hold the majority,"Disagree. There are a total of 254 Democrats and 279 Republicans in elected positions in
the US Government (US House and Senate combined). If you add the president
(Democrat) the count would be 255 Democrats and 279 Republicans. If you add the
Independents (2) to the Democrats (since they lean mostly Democrat) the count is
257 Democrats, 279 Republicans, or 22 more Republicans than Democrats. OK?
Unemployed Americans The government should enforce E-Verify so that
Americans can get available jobs instead of undocumented immigrants
(nomenclature req'd by moderators). We have 10 to 20 million undocumented
in this country who are taking jobs leaving Americans unemployed drawing
billions in unemployment benefits. Undocumenteds are willing to work for less
that's why employers prefer them over Americans. And they drive wages down
as well. Not good for the American worker.
We just need more jobs --get the gov't out of the way with all their job
killing regulations and and Obamacare and the economy will soar -- Start with
approving the Keystone pipeline.
The government should enforce E-Verify so that only Americans can get available
jobs instead of immigrants that are here without authorization. We have 10 to 20
million immigrants without documentation in this country who are taking jobs
leaving Americans unemployed drawing billions in unemployment benefits. The
DNews reported that immigrants without documentation are willing to work for
less, that's why employers prefer them over Americans and that they drive
wages down as well. Not good for the American worker.
How likely would an employer hire someone who has collected free checks for a
long period of time?I sure wouldn't!
