No tolerance policies are similar to mandatory sentences. Judges and school
administrators probably both need some flexibility. Punishment should be
appropriate for the offense.
We are not supposed to notice that this is the SECOND DN article about this
study.Ed research is always working backwards from the problem - minority
drop out rates. The premise is that the teachers are never to blame and it
is not PC to pick on the students themselves.So... "research
suggests" that discipline in schools is picking on minority students.Having served on a school board in the midwest with 40,000 students it was our
responsibility to investigate and vote on every expulsion, suspension or
disciplinary complaint. I can tell you that the problem is NOT frivolous
discipline. If anything they are winking and nodding a serious violations of the
school code. This research is self-serving and once again misses the point.
The point is that dysfunctional families create problems in society.
Say NO to BO:While there may be truth to your posting, zero
tolerance policies are still stupid.
Zero tolerance? Where was zero tolerance with:*
Benghazi* Weapons to Mexican cartels* Building a huge national
debt* Lavish expensive IRS conferences* Taking, and wasting hundreds
of millions tax payer dollars for Solyndra* Giving billions of dollars
worth of military weapons to Egypt* Giving billions of dollars worth of
infrastructure to African nations, which benefits will never be seen by its
common people.* ETCMy biggest question! Why trust the feds
with defining "Zero Tolerance", to our children?
This article is bringing to focus the students who are lost along the way to our
overpowered good vs. evil classifications. Students are not merely
"bad" or "good". They are individuals who need guidance to cope
with the future of a diverse and challenging world. The No Child Left Behind
thinking....and the new "Core Curriculum" standardization is pretty much
the dumbing down of society. Making standardization on eve3rything- including
the "spraying of perfume" in class is just another loss to our students
learning to read, write, do arithmetic, and function in the overstructed system
we are allowing the Core people tto impose upon us.
