"No. 6 Utah, ran away with it at 196.65 points, followed by No. 23 Boise State at 195.85, BYU at 194.55 and SUU at 192.025."

This is not even close. Congratulations to the Red Rocks and to the University of Utah for wrapping up the Deseret Duel in the second week of January. Total domination...well done!!

Best wishes to Kassandra Lopez for a quick and full recovery.

Tough to lose Kassandra before the season even began, but good to see that the Red Rocks seemed to recover fairly well.

Also, congratulations to the University of Utah for sealing a victory in the Deseret First Duel.

Utah was only ahead by around .2 with two gymnasts left each until Boise had their second fall on beam.

"Total domination..." for Utah, on a local scale.

Total domination for BYU, on a national scale.

2013-14 Sports Directors' Cup Division I Final Fall Standings
    As of January 9, 2014

    #11 BYU - 265.00 points - W CC, M CC, FBS FB, W Soc, and W VB
    #79 Utah - 75.00 points - W Soc and W Vol

Utah's men haven't recorded a single point so far and are unlikely to do so.
Minimum standard for earning points in football - playing in a bowl.

"Total domination for BYU, on a national scale."

Yup, to the tune of 10 all-time NCAA championships. That's way better than UU's 21 NCAA titles.

As far as national scale in women's gymnastics, byu is not in the picture. As far as football, I'd rather dominate my rival in they're super bowl than lose in a prearranged lower tier bowl.

Remind us how many national championships Utah's men have won without the help of the Utah's women.

Here's a clue; you can count Utah's men's national championship on ONE finger, and that in a sport in which only FOUR FBS schools compete.

In the 21-year history of the Director's Cup, which measures overall athletic excellence in all men's and women's sports, the Utes have NEVER finished ahead of the Cougars.

In fact, Utah's best finish, 51st in 2008-09, isn't even as good as BYU's worst finish, 47th in 2008-09.

    Current Director's Cup standings:

    #11 BYU - 265.00 points - W CC, M CC, FBS FB, W Soc, and W VB
    #79 Utah - 75.00 points - W Soc and W Vol

"As far as national scale in women's gymnastics, BYU is not in the picture."

    Not true.

Although not close to the level of the Red Rocks, BYU's women's gymnastics program finished tied for 19th in the 2012-13 season, earning 52.5 points in the Director's Cup, which places BYU solidly "in the picture" on a national scale.

Talk about not being in the picture. In football, the minimum standard for earning points in the Director's Cup is playing in a bowl - sorry to burst your crimson bubble, but September bowls against your rival don't qualify. The Utes aren't even good enough to qualify for a "lower-tier" bowl.

BYU's men's volleyball program has won THREE national championships and played in two other national championship matches since the Red Rocks last won a national championship.

blah, blah, blah...still can't beat the Utes.

I assume that you are referencing the Baskeball championship, there were no FCS/FBS classifications all schools competed for an invitation. As far and the Directors Cup goes, when you win it then you can brag about it.

Sexist to boot I am sure that you would argue that women have no business competing in sports. Should they be home cleaning, sewing, and cooking?

The Lady Utes have defeated the Lady Cougars 64 straight times away from the Marriot center where the Lady Cougars are 22-2.

oops, my mistake 66-0 away from the Marriot Center.

The Red Rocks (with 10 NCs) are the only decent program on the hill and even they haven't won a national championship in almost 20 years - since 1995.

Utah's 9 coed-skiing and 1 solo men's skiing championships are a joke with Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and New Mexico being the ONLY FBS schools that compete in skiing.

When a tiny school like Denver dominates a sport, and only seven teams - Denver(21), Colorado(18), Utah(10), Vermont(6), Dartmouth(3), Wyoming(2) and New Mexico(1) - have won every one of the 60 NCs, it shows just how little competition there is in skiing.

btw, the solo men's skiing championship in 1981 is the only national championship Utah's men have ever won. The NCAA combined the men's and women's championships into a single coed championship after 1981.

Utah's 1944 NCAA tournament championship was NOT a national championship. Winning the 2nd best tournament of the day doesn't win you a national championship. The Helms Athletic Foundation named Army (15-0) the 1944 national champion.

Dave Rose is 12-4, 7 of the last 8, versus the Utes.

Try stepping out of that crimson bubble once in awhile.

.2 is enough to win the meet. 2.1 pts in Gymnastics is a huge margin. I don't know why byu is even on the same floor with with Red Rocks. At any rate, wrapping up the Deseret Duel on 4 of 4 competitions is, in fact, total domination.

I'm a BYU fan, but my daughter loves gymnastics. I've taken her to 6 Red Rocks meets, and zero BYU meets. When it comes to gymnastics Utah is where it's at. As for other sports...well there's a reason I'm a BYU fan.
