If the coach is so eager to get out on the road why did he schedule 13 of 14 at
home? What a pacthethic schedule. It is no wonder that the utes cannot get any
respect from the national pollsters. Go Huskies and WSU cougars.
Aww, gone under came back to us. His and Duckhunter's prognostications have
been sorely missed since December 14. I see we're back to whining about
nonconference schedules... when nonconference has been over for a week.
"It is no wonder that the utes cannot get any respect from the national
pollsters."You must have missed the ESPN article over the weekend
titled "Utes've come a long way, baby". National press attention
leads to national respect. Coach has things headed in the right direction.
@DownWe beat the respect out of your team.
We will destroy both the washingtons because are road record proves we are an
awsome road team.Go Utes!
Down Under,Yes, our out of conference was nothing but cupcakes like
byu, except BoiseAnd byu's conference schedule is nothing but
cupcakes other than Gonzaga. Why is your conference schedule
horrible? Why don't you join a big boy conference and then
start playing big boy teams in conference play?Go Utes!Onward
The Utes should win both games this week, the Washington schools are not very
good.It is pretty funny that BYU is mocked here, because they are out
ranking both Utah and Boise with 7 losses. Now that is how much respect or
lack thereof that Utah receives (so much for Pac-12 respect), 65th sagarin
ranking and 68th pomeroy ranking top BYUs 44th ranking and 55th repectfully.LOLGood luck to the UtesBoise is also ranked behind BYU.
BeSmartThe margin in the rankings you are so anxious to quote has closed
significantly since the start of season. You might want to take that into
consideration before you make additional comments.Down underStGtoSLC is right...you and Duckhunter have been completely non-existent since
Coach K taught Rose how college basketball is played. Good to have you back
with us.Critical road games coming up...get it done, Utes! Make
some noise in our elite conference!!
The Washington schools are down this year; especially U Dub. Golden opportunity
for Utah. You can't take anyone for granted though.GO UTES
We'll see where our respective schools are at following conference play.
As it stands, espn's bpi rankings have us at #45 and in The Tourney, w/bsu
at #52/out and byu at #59/out.As it stands, in addition to playing
against a highly ranked Oregon, we still have #1 Arizona twice, #15 Colorado
twice, hovering just outside of the Top-25 UCLA twice, a respectable ASU w/Jahii
Carson twice and respectable CAL/Stanford. UW is significantly improved from
earlier this season and just got done destroying ASU on their homecourt, as well
as taking Arizona down to the wire in Tucson. Not to mention OSU getting
Moreland back just before playing at CU, losing by merely 6 points, which we
handled w/ease!The disparity in strength between The PAC-12/the weak
wcc is laughable. There's Gonzaga/SMC and then a bunch of patsies duking
it out for 3rd-place! byu has already lost to LMU [Who?]/Pepperdine [Who?]
I was just stating that it is quite ironic that a team's fans which is
openly mock another garners more from national respect than the original
team.I think Utah is a good team this year and have said that multiple
times, but when people mock something they need to be intelligent concerning the
matter or else it is funny to see when facts are placed before them.I am
glad the Utes won, but Oregon State is a pathetic team (lost to Coppin State)
and Oregon lost to Colorado which is the only really good team they have played.
It is a long season.
I'm pretty sure this article is about Utah and Utah only. I didn't see
one mention of BYU in it and am perplexed as to how articles on either team
always elicits so many comments mentioning the other. Seems kinda juvenile. Both Utah and BYU looked very impressive in their last games and both now have
their first conference wins. Let's let it go at that. The
Utes... No doubt they've come a long way in the past 2 years. And this year
has been surprisingly good. But I've never once in my life ever seen a team
go this far into the season (nearing the halfway mark) with only a single road
game. Almost weird. It will be interesting to see how Utah fares on their road
games since that is definitely still a question mark. Hopefully, they will
continue doing well. @ Down Under:Coaches don't
schedule their games. That is the Athletic Director's responsibility. The
coach may have had some limited input, but the schedule is still ultimately up
the AD. Don't blame coach K. However, it might've been just what the
Utes needed to jump-start things.
Spokane, UW did just spank the Devils in Wells Fargo Arena and then hung tough
in the McKale Center. I think they'll end up being a tough game. If the
Utes don't destroy Wazzu, though, especially if Davonte Lacy is still out,
that would be a big disappointment.
We split this series. Lose to Washington and beat Washington State. If we lose
to Washington state, my prediction of an NIT birth would be questionable. BeSmart,I'm glad to see realistic analysis. Thank you
for injecting a realistic approach to your comments. Oregon State is NOT that
good of a team, inconsistent at best. beating them is not noteworthy. Utah is
NIT bound unless they make a miracle run in the PAC tourney. But NIT is better
than last year.
BeSmart, Oregon's actually played several pretty good teams. Illinois and
Georgetown are both top 50 teams, Ole Miss was a tourney team last year, and a
close loss at CU isn't that bad considering they're a very good team
and it's one of the toughest places to play in the country.
Utah's worst loss of the season is to a Boise team that went dancing last
year.Of byu's many losses, I'm not sure which is worse:A Pepperdine team that many in the country don't realize even has a
basketball teamA lola Mary Community team that likewise surprises
many they even field a teamRival Utah that has a horrible RPI that
byu fans have been talking about, and not just losing, but being humiliated and
totally dominated in all aspectsGo Utes!byu's quest
for march madness is over and the season isn't even halfway over.LOL!
@ StGtoSLCall I stated that Colorado was the only really good team.It was not detracting Colorado or the top 50 schools I just don't
consider them really good. I think really good teams are top 20.Oregon is
a good team and the Utes should have beaten them, but they are not great in my
opinion. A mediocre BYU team took Oregon to OT in Eugene, that should not happen
on their own court if they are really good.
BeSmart, my fault I read your post wrong. Cheers!
StGtoSLCU W has played better as of late. They are 9-6, but there
last three loses were all to ranked teams. I haven't watched U W much this
year, but did watch them lose, at home, to Cal Irvine. Coach Romar is a great
recruiter, but not that good of a coach. IMOWSU is really struggling
this year. No easy games in the PAC though, especially on the road. Your
comments are generally spot on, and that's nice to see. Take care and have
a good one Guy!
@ Christopher B:Once again you spend more time talking about BYU (on
an article only about Utah) than you do about the Utes. Unbelievable. I believe
there is a medical term for that kind of obsessive disorder. Perhaps counseling
can help. Though I'm happy for normal Ute fans and their
team's success, you should consider a few things regarding your
comment...1) BYU is still ranked higher than Utah in most national
ranking services. And they aren't biased like fans posting here. 2)
After the first 10 minutes of the Ute-BYU game, it was played pretty equally the
rest of the way.3) The only team both Utah and BYU play in common this
year is Oregon. Both BYU and Utah recently played them equally well with both
games decided in overtime. No one has come closer to beating Oregon than both
Utah and BYU did. Give some credit where credit is due... to BOTH local
teams. And please stop your practice of always ending your sports
article comments with that silly "lol" thing. It really does seem quite
childish and consequently makes it harder for others to take you as a serious
Correction to my last comment...I meant to say that before
Oregon's recent loss to Colorado, no other teams had come closer to beating
the Ducks than both Utah and BYU did. Both local teams were impressive in taking
Oregon to overtime... BYU at Oregon and Utah in SLC.
OSU didn't have Moreland 'til their most recent road-trip. He's
easily their 2nd best player, perhaps their best player by season's end.UW did get crushed by UC-Irvine earlier this season, yet they've
significantly improved as of late, as clearly evidenced by their most recent
road-trip.UO is widely considered by ALL national experts to be a
legitimate contender in The PAC-12 race. Anybody stating otherwise is either
biased/clearly doesn't comprehend College Basketball. In addition, UO had
only played one neutral game against GU & one true road game at 'Ole
Miss, prior to this last week. So, we're not the sole team to have played
the vast majority of our games at home.Keep in mind, our OOC
schedule this season was primarily put together 2 years ago as we suffered our
proud/storied program's worst season in history. Furthermore, we attempted
to put together a few tougher opponents in replacement, yet these deals fell
through late. Both Coach LK/AD CH have stated unequivocally that this
won't be the case going forward, as clearly evidenced by our already
scheduled game against KU in K.C. next season!
@Tators2) After the first 10 minutes of the Ute-BYU game, it was
played pretty equally the rest of the way.-----------Nope, the game was never "equal".It was a 14 point lead
for Utah in the first 10 minutes. It was a 22 point lead for Utah with 1:46
left in the game.So Utah was +8 until garbage time when BYU cut the
lead to 17 (+3 since the 10 min mark).Anything else you would like
AZUTE1,I just came on here to talk some BBall and congratulate the U of U
on a good game and looks like a very good team....and the first thing I see is a
random attack no them????? AZUTE and any other U fan....I'm sorry you have
to hear this! I'm not sure if it's Y fans or who....but really???????
Give them all the grief in the world about there OOC schedule...every U fan
already knows it....but they are about to start a conference schedule that may
be one of the toughest in the nation! And they are playing great? Are you just
mad because you got completely beat down by them????Talking trash
about a team that smoked you seems pretty unintelligent to me!!!!!Anyway, good luck U! I'm a huge Aggie fan but I am thinking I need to
sneak down there a few times to watch some good teams!! Go
Aggies!!! Go Utes!!!P.S. Has Y even won a conference game yet????
I watched the Huskies give Zona a tough time on the road, the uTes are going to
Don't sugar-coat it Jarka-rus. Tell us how you really feel? As long as
you're here, won't you tell us what's going on with your team?
If BYU was in the PAC 12 they would win the conference since the WCC is a
stronger conference and we win that every year.
Ute "fans" Uteology, Chris B, and the rest, Will you guys stop bugging
on BYU fans? BYU is a respectable opponent. You make us all look bad.
Ah, nice to see Dr. Tators back again with another discourse explaining how BYU
is somehow better than Utah despite all on-court evidence to the contrary. Just
like football. Well done professor!
@TatorsI am sure glad that you can find (over and over) some
rank/rating/poll that shows some school that was beaten handily (pick the sport)
by Utah as being superior to to the winning team. aka, sour grapes. Maybe the
problem is that you can't pick a winner? Can't wait for the
ineveitable women gymnastics justifications.
@TatorsHere is a a football rating for ya, January 6, 2014Team
Rating SOSUtah 34 (2 quintile) 3 (1
decile)BYU 35 (2 quintile) 38 (3 decile)LOL!
@Magna Ute FanYou mean Duke? they are doing fine, tough loss to Notre Dame
but won't lose to Wazzo I will guarantee that
"You mean Duke?"No, we want to hear about that "deep
Tourney run" the Cougs are ready for now that they upset the might Toreros!
@LoveTheKittensand Ute fans don't cherry pick reasons why the Utes
are such a powerhouse? LOL right. How many times do we hear about 0-4 and the
Stanford game? Dont' hear much about the loss to Wazzoo, Zona, OSU, etc
etc. Those are bad teams.
jarkarus--"Dont' hear much about the loss to Wazzoo, Zona,
OSU, etc etc. Those are bad teams."Wazzu went 6-6 in the regular
season against what finished pre-bowl season as the #1 SOS in the nation,
including doing something byu has never done--Beating USC and they did so in
LA....It also included going down to Auburn and outplaying them in a game they
should've won....It also included doing something byu hasn't done in a
long, long time--Beating Arizona in Tucson, 1 week before they destroyed
Oregon....Wazzu also played Washington significantly tougher than byu did and
did so in a very, very hostile Husky Stadium! For the record, in
spite of a fluke loss to Colorado State in their bowl game, Wazzu finished the
season going 6-7 against the #5 SOS and finishing ranked #40 in the final
Sagarin rankings, 5 spots below byu and 6 spots below The U....Arizona finished
ranked #24 against the #31 SOS and Oregon State finished ranked #29 against the
#18 SOS....byu finished ranked #35 against the #38 SOS....The U finished ranked
#34 against the #3 SOS at 5-7!
@JerksrusHow about that quality loss to Virginia (2-10)? Then 2
weeks later to the Utes (5-7)?The best wins: Texas @ 33, Gtech @ 37, USU @
41...not much for the best schedule ever.BTW, it still is 0-4 vs
LTKNinth straight bowl season for BYU.Second straight
bowl-less season for Utah.Time to dust off another shelf in your
closet of fame for another sos trophy.
christy"A Pepperdine team that many in the country don't
realize even has a basketball team"Yes, hardly anybody has heard
of Dennis Johnson or Doug Christy.
"Utes head out on the road to face Washington, Washington State"The Utes are winless on the road this season.
