Could any of the success in this game have to do with the fact it was San Diego
on the other side?It would have been a real story had the win been by less
than twenty points. When do we get to play a real opponent again?
Dave Rose said "he really shared the ball well.” It is about time.Scary about about Mika. Hope he is okay.
Really, that is the headline?Halford played his best game ever and
still Carlino's name is in the headine? Carlino was not the difference in
this game. If he ever decides to listen to his coaches and can actually play
his way out of this slump he is in, maybe he can be a key player again. Until
then, give credit where credit is due.
Maybe Carlino off the bench is the way to go. He is the only Cougar with the
attitude you need to spark the team. The Cougars were flat in the first part of
the game. WHen Carlino came in the Coogs took off. Great Job by Carlino to
lift the team. Maybe Dave Rose is on to something.
Outside-View, there are lots of other articles about Halford's success in
the game. If you simply look at the box score, Carlino was not the difference
in the game. In watching the game however, I did think Carlino was the
difference. The game was close and the BYU offense looked out of sync until
Carlino came in. With Carlino, Halford, and Haws, they moved the ball much
better and open shots were much easier to come by. Yes, Halford had to hit the
shots - I'm not trying to take any credit away from him. I love the high
arching 3 ball. But, with Carlino in the game, Halford got much better looks.
defense and free throws were their emphasis in practice. Still a work in
progress, especially with free throws. If Collinsworth could learn to shoot
(field goals AND free throws), BYU could be hard to defend...Does he
have the Shaquille stiff wrist? Just curious - his shooting motion is puzzling,
especially at the line.
That was a refreshing game to watch. It's been a while since I saw a BYU
step up and hit clutch shots. It's about time Halford got some real playing
time. I think that's been part of the problem with some of the other JC
players we've brought in recently who haven't worked out. They rarely
got to play so they never could develop any confidence in their shot or get into
sync with the offense. Rose can be pretty miserly with new guys and playing
time. Hopefully he's learned from Halford that he needs to be a bit more
