Couldn't be more proud of coach k and the team. I thought this team was
still a year away for competing for PAC 12 and march madness birth. By now
it's safe to say we can play with anyone and no reason we can't end up
in the big dance. After a schedule of nothing but cupcakes in non
conference, it sure is nice to be playing real teamsGreat game guys.
Go PAC 12 utes!Onward and upward
I was impressed with Utah tonight, but they still have to show it on the
Wow a guy from Ogden with a name of Big 12 call yet is proud, wait,
couldn't be more proud of his team for losing. Is this another Chris
account with the pac 12 utes onward and upward stuff? That being
said, it will be interesting to watch what happens from here on out for Utah.
There are a few cream puffs in the pac for sure but the fans claiming a bid to
the big dance after a close game to Oregon are delusional. Shoot for any post
season play first, then build up to the big dance. Baby steps. You'll get
We are dang good and can win anybody this year on our home court.Go
Who knows at this stage if the Utes scheduling was a good idea or not. It seems
to me that a stronger schedule might have been more beneficial (but not as
strong as BYU's schedule - it may have been too much and left a young team
burned out). The bottom line is that we really don't know yet. It's
Here's something that hasn't changed - the moral victory parade after
Esquire,Have you not seen Utah's schedule? We have two games
against the #1 Arizona, two games against top 25 Colorado, plus games against
UCLA, USC....Its a very respectable schedule overall. And even
better than byu's.
Or it could be that Oregon is very overrated. If you look at their schedule,
they beat Georgetown pretty well, but barely beat Mississippi in OT. They had to
have OT to beat BYU and Utah. The rest of their schedule has been pretty
weak. That said, Oregon keeps putting up the W's and is still
undefeated. So they are getting the job done.
The only laughing matter is the beatdown Utah has been putting on cupcakes like
Katherine community and byu!
"The one-liners about playing a high school schedule now seem as dusty as a
Cosby monologue."But you still desperately keep trying them,
Then Byu should get massive Kudos for playing this same team on THEIR court and
taking them to OT.
jarka-rus,Kudos to byu for how they performed vs Oregon and
Stanford. Now the team needs to do some soul searching, maybe a
meeting without the coaches and where the leaders step up. Good luck.
jarka-rusbyu was blown out by the Utes and failed miserably in their OT
bid at Oregon by, once again, not bothering to play defense which they clearly
have never been taught. Add to that byu's more immediate concerns
regarding their performance in the vaunted WCC and...well...I think you see why
excitement abounds on the hill and not at byu. byu's never ending
'quest for attention' is going to get steam rolled by the Utes.StGtoSLCGreat observation. It's time for the local media to
realize that Coach K is bringing Utah basketball back and write accordingly.
That's probably too much to ask and we Utah fans would be well advised to
keep our expectations low.
Brad hit the nail on the head Utah is back and will be winning a lot of
basketball games. The PAC is on notice that they better bring their A game when
they come to the Huntsman. As our little brother found out getting beat by 17.
Utah basketball is back and its about time.
I don't know when I last saw effort and defense like that. Especially, the
first quarter. Blocked shots from out of nowhere! It's been a decade, at
least, since a performance like that. Not certain what the record will be;
however, effort appears off the chart! The wins will follow.
Aggie fan here! Utes, you did and looked great! Don't let all the lame
comments get you down! I will not be one bit surprised if you all go to the
dance. You have destroyed teams that you should!!!! And will only get better
against very good to above average teams! Here is an AGGIE truly wishing you
well!!!! Go Aggies!Good Luck U!
Utes are improved. I weak schedule in the beginning has brought a well rested
Utah team into conference wars. The jury is still out. Let's give it
another few weeks before we crown them healed from past woes.
Even I must admit, Utes look better than I thought they would be this year.
Wright has made a huge impact and Loveridge is a great player. Congrats.
@MyPerspectiveMaybe they should suit up against St. Katherine and EVG??
Lamar etc etc then they could pile up the cupcake wins. the Utes would have got
blown out playing at Oregon. Let's see how they do at Washington before
everyone on the hill jumps and pounds their chests.
@MyPerspectiveAnd the Utes failed miserably passing it to the wrong team
To supplement Mr. Rock's articles and to respond to some of the ute fans
comments let me throw out a couple numbers and acronyms... . SOS
and 315 out of 351... Strength of Schedule rating and the number ranked against
the total number of teams measures according to the last RPI. .
2-11... the utes record against BYU over the past 7 years. . HCA
or Home Court Advantage... The difference in the score that you will see when
you play Oregon in Eugene... or, the difference between the Boise State game and
all other games on your schedule. . SOS 3... BYU's ranking
amongst the 351 teams previously measured. . 141 and 39...
utah's and BYU's respective RPI rankings after the Coug's recent
losses. . 0... number of utah wins away from the HC.
. and, BYU... utah's only quality win this season using HCA.
.81-64... actual score of when Utah and BYU played.0-1... BYU's
record versus Utah this year.45... Utah's current BPI.59... BYU's current BPI
@stgtoslc,The AP, the USA Today, and the RPI are really the only
polls the selection committee watches, but if you want to compare polls,
let's compare all of them:AP... both not ratedUSA
Today... both not ratedRPI... BYU 39 and utah 141BPI...
(an ESPN Bracketology creation that rewards teams for the conference they belong
to (whether you have played anyone in that conference yet or not)and does little
to penalize teams for playing weaker schedules... Utah 45 BYU 59Sagaran Ratings... BYU 46 utah 65Massey Ratings... utah 57 BYU
54KenPom (Ken Pomeroy) Ratings... BYU 55 Utah 68So to
summarize, if we treat the RPI, the BPI, the Sagaran, the Massey and the KenPom
rankings with equal weight the total averages for each team are... BYU 48.4 ...Utah 74.6 (Total averages across the 5 rating sources)... ouch...
@poymanHome court advantage is about 3 to 5 points, from what I can
find. Your team got pummeled by 17 points at the Huntsmen Center.
That's not HCA that's called getting OWNED!As far as SOS,
I will just quote what you BYU "fans" were saying in the fall:"Better dust off a shelf in your trophy closet for another SOS
trophy." -- Uteanymous
And all the RPI does is rewards teams for playing tough schedules, regardless of
whether they manage to beat any of the good teams or not. Thus, it has little to
no relevancy until late February when the schedule is near complete. And, no,
your explanation of ESPN's BPI can be found nowhere in their own
explanation of it. The actual criteria used for their calculation: Scoring
margin, Diminishing returns for blowouts, Pace of game matters,
Home/Neutral/Road, SOS beyond Opponent's opponents' W-L, All wins are
better than losses, and De-weighting games with missing key players. Yours
sounds just as made up as a PAC-12 officiating conspiracy theory.
POYMAN, as a huge BYU fan, I must say I don't see how you can argue with
the Ute fans with the way they blew out BYU. Scoreboard always gives you the
bragging rights. At the same time, I'll never understand the animosity the
Ute fans hold towards the Y - especially now that they aren't even in the
same conference. I do think BYU might be the better team. But, again,
uteology,HCA can be measured by how y'all do against the Ducks
in Eugene... The utes lost by 2 in OT on their home court, let's see how
they do on the Ducks home court.stgtoslc,And yet the RPI
is the third most popular poll used outside of the AP and USA Today and it is
used all season long.
