Conservatives have always worked to protect freedoms and demand government
fiscal responsibility. At the same time liberals are demonstrating their total
incompetence (Obamacare), corruption (pick a scandal) and fiscal ignorance
(exploding national debt). Its better to stand up for correct principles of
governance, accountability and responsibility than remain silent, even if you
must stand alone! Ted Cruz, Mike Lee and a few others, are right and they are
I once was able to respect Mr. Will, but lately he has been slipping farther and
farther to the extreme right. So far, in fact, that he appears to have lost
touch with reality.
At least some conservatives tried to stop the oft called trainwreck of
Obamacare. The rest of the good old boys and the Libs chose to stay the course
of same old same old.The good old boys ie McCain, Hatch et al just go along to
What! We Republican Conservatives were responsible for the sequestration!
These fair and balanced spending cuts affected all programs across the board!
We stood up to obamacare and did everything we could to stop people from getting
insurance! We were the ones against pre-existing conditions, food stamps,
Medicare, Medicaid, money for road and bridges, pre-school and day care
facilities, student loans, minimum wage increases, women rights, and against
gays destroying America and our Chruches! We Republicans are the ones that
said “NO” to every single thing that guy obama wanted to do since he
took office. Why I could go on and on and about all the things we Republicans
are doing to stand up for you people in order to take back our America. What
more do you want us to do for you? Well, if we TeaPublicans want to take back
America in 2014 and 2016, we just better be willing to work a lot harder in
converting a lot of you non-believers. It’s all about taking back our
America! Palin/Bachmann 2016…it’s going to happen!
It is not Mr. Will who has moved to the right, it is the constant overreach of
the left that make it seem that way.
The concept of government fiscal responsibility is like a bible passage; vague
enough to apply as needed. Spending two million on out of state lawyers to fight
a lost cause is, we've been told, fiscal responsibility. I think,
though, that Will's main message in the article is not that conservatives
have wasted money in governance, which they have, but in trying to get their
message across. To me, this is because, in the era of tea party, the message
itself is flawed. It's angry, divisive and void of good ideas. Any money
spent on this message is wasted.
Conservatives have always tried to claim that they worked to protect freedoms
and demand government fiscal responsibility. At the same time these
conservatives are demonstrating their total incompetence (the government
shutdown), corruption (Swallow and Shurtleff and uncontrolled lobbying) and
fiscal ignorance (exploding national debt as a result of two unfunded wars,
unfunded Medicare Part D, and countless subsidies to huge corporations and tax
breaks for the most wealthy among us). It's better to stand up for correct
principles of governance, accountability and responsibility than remain silent,
even if you must stand alone! That is why we must recognize the terrible harm
that is being done by the likes of Ted Cruz, Mike Lee and a few others, as they
abuse and confuse the Constitution of our land!
Where were conservatives when Bush sent us to not one but two Unfunded wars?
When he created TSA? The Patriot Act? Turned Clinton's surplus into
billions of debt? Did nothing to fix healthcare? And handed billions to
banks?I just wish for some consistency, that's all.
'Conservatives have always worked to protect freedoms and demand government
fiscal responsibility.' And yet… George W.
Bush doubled the national debt. And Ronald Reagan tripled the
national debt. HIstory, disproves the claim that Conservatives are
about 'fiscal responsibility'.

When i read the title of the article, i thought that it was about Amendment 3.
The DN headline writers might want to save that title and use it again if/when
Amendment 3 has its day in court.
one old manHow disengenuous can you be? You do a laundry list of
corruption blamed on Republicans. You must have forgot Matheson
selling his vote for his brothers judgeship. And of course you forget
Obamas laundry list of blatant lies.Oh thats right you libs call it
misspoke.PaganYou are a broken record. How many times
have you repeated Bush doubled the debt. Lets hear you tell what your hero Obama
has done to the debt. Say it once, but you libs can repeat over and over Bush
did this, Bush did that. Pal that was then and that aint now. Now is what we are
worried about and you and you fellow libs have through your votes brought
socialsm/communism down around our ears.
The last time our federal government had a balanced budget and ran a fiscal
surplus was when Newt Gengirch ran a conservative congress and Bill Clinton
(when he wasn't busy with Monica) signed the budget into law. Since
liberals took over, debt has piled and taxes have increased both in record
amounts and in record time! So much for liberals being fiscally responsible!
"Now they know that a quicker, surer method is to have progressives wield
power for a few years."Conservatives do indeed find themselves
in a better position to convince people to vote Republican when the Democrats
are in power. When the Republicans have been in power, they have found it very
hard to convince anyone that they know anything about wise governing. All we
have to do is remember the Cheney-Bush administration. This administration was
so disastrous that all Republican candidates in 2008 felt compelled to run
against Cheney-Bush. Obama didn't need to run against anyone. Cheney-Bush
had done so much damage that no Republican candidate could escape the vacuum
they left behind. In 2016, it will be enlightening to see if the
Republicans actually have any ideas. For the past five years, their only idea
has been to fight Obama. When Obama is finally gone, they will have to convince
us that they have a clue about what this country needs. So far, I'm seeing
no evidence that they're up to the task.
@ Kent. According to several polls, Obama's record low approval numbers
prove that the vast majority of Americas see no evidence that Obama is up to the
task and has no clue about what this country needs! All he has done to raise
taxes and spend money we don't have, lie about his healthcare mess,
embarrass our allies and deny accountability for his failures. And of course
blame the GOP!
@Thid Barker – “The last time our federal government had a balanced

the 1st half of the history right but botched the 2nd half. Once
Bush was elected (and the conservatives maintained their majorities in both
house of congress for the next six years), he/they quickly turned our budget
surplus into a huge deficit. That these same conservatives have
thwarted any effort by Obama to reverse this course (of the lowest tax rates in
decades) only guarantees the debt keeps growing. Combine that with the worst
economic downturn since the 1930’s and our debt continues to skyrocket.Sorry, tell us again what conservatives are doing to bring down the
debt? I’ve seen no sign of it since the days they were compromisers with a
I vowed that the next time I saw someone complain about President Reagan
increasing the debt, I would comment. Yes, he did. He increased the deficit to
rebuild our National Defense which had been dismantled by Mr Carter to the point
that the US was a third rate joke that couldn't even mount a rescue mission
to Iran to rescue the hostages taken because Iran knew we
couldn't/wouldn't respond. He built up our power so that we could
stare down the Soviets and ultimately make them blink. The threat of nuclear
destruction which haunted that generation was so palpable as to remove hope. He
did what any self-respecting leader of this nation is supposed to do, protect
this country and its interests. He forged alliances and brought pride back to
our citizens. His policies increased the revenue to the Treasury, not by
raising taxes, but by lowering them. So, did he raise the deficit? Yes. Was
it worth it, Yes. Our current President has raised it exponentially, and not for
anything but handouts/bailouts/crony capitalism. There eren't enough words
allowed here to expound further.
Mohokat -- How disengenuous can you be? You do a laundry list of corruption
blamed on Democrats. You must have forgot Swallow buying his votes to
become Attorney General and the role Shurtleff played in getting John elected.
You forgot the laundry list of blatant lies told by President Cheney and his
little buddy as they led us into a disastrous and unfunded war in Iraq. And
you forgot the other lies from people like Sarah Palin, Mike Lee, Ted Cruz, that
governor from Texas (let's see what's his name?) The list of
Republican corruption is much longer and far more odious than anything you can
show me from the Obama administration.Oh thats right you
conservatives call it misspoke. But who misspoke. Was it Rush or Sean or Glen?
