Welcome coach to the prestigious Pac 12!We already beat an
incredible Stanford team and took ranked UCLA, ranked OSU, and ranked ASU down
to the final play. This team isnt' far from competing for the
Pac 12 title.Go Utes!
"I am also excited to be back coaching at the BCS level"Yes
coach, we know what you mean! As you know, its vastly better than being a
non-power conference team!
Hey, maybe they can rekindle some of those magic years that they had together
at Idaho State. Come to think of it, Wyoming is an offensive powerhouse
aren't they? Kyle your going to be looking for a new job after next year.
Get ready to see a "Go Fast Go Hard" offense here in the state of Utah!
@chris, that sure was a nice way of saying welcome to the basement. ....lol!
Another year and another OC! Me thinks I see a pattern. Why not make them Co Co
Offensive Coordinators? Perhaps the OC isn't the problem ... just saying.
The common denominator through all of the OC's has been Coach Whit, and
Brian Johnson. I'm willing to give Coach Whit a psss for now, but Johnson
has done nothing for us. Let him go!
Yup!! Scream about being in the mighty PAC 12, right in the basement as #10.
One fluke win and you'd think Chris B was making reservations for the Rose
Bowl. More like Arizona in reality. Oh, and speaking of Arizona, who won the
game between Arizona and Utah this year....remind me once more. (Or even
Washington State, the perennial basement bottom-feeder in the PAC.)You gotta have something to crow about while everyone else is busy with a bowl
game, and you're not....yet again.
So the Utes pick up a coach who was fired from Wyoming and who's defense
stopped the little teams but teams with a better offense they gave up way more
points. Here's the proof:Nebraska - 37 pts. (L)Idaho -
10 pts. (W)N. Colorado - 7 pts. (W)Air Force - 23 pts. (W)Texas State - 21 pts. (L)New Mexico - 31 pts. (W)Colorado State -
52 pts. (L)San Jose State - 51 pts. (L)Fresno State - 48 pts. (L)Boise State - 48 pts. (L)Hawaii - 56 pts. (W)Utah State - 35 pts.
(L)Hope Utah is ready to outscore their opponents....Sounds liks a great hire to me!
HAHAHAHAHAHA! Nice hire! I can't wait until they are looking for another OC
in two years. Brian Johnson - Swing and a Miss (Strike 1)Dennis Erickson
(BCS Coach, national championship, yadayadayada - Swing and Miss (Strike 2)Dave Christensen - From the mighty MWC and Powerhouse that is Wyoming. Strike
3!@Chris B, Where are the big time coaches lining up to coach a big
time Pac-12 program???
Whoa there Chris, You are starting to sound like BYU fan. Try to get back to
getting bowl eligible before you talk about PAC 12 champion. This is
confusing. A former 2 time nat champion coach in Erickson gets demoted to
running back coach and a head coach gets picked up to be a coordinator. They
must pay pretty well at the U.
Surprising hire. Kyle hiring a friend who was just fired from Wyoming? Guess
Dennis just wasn't getting it done.Having assistant coaches who are
compatible with the head coach is the key to a good coaching staff. Kyle is
pretty compatible with Dave ...they both had 5-7 records this past year. 2014 should be a very interesting year in Utah football.
I like this hire. Having DE an DC on the staff makes it better. I'm sure
this doesn't happen without DE's blessing. Now, Travis,
get better.Go Utes!!!
Wow a lot of naysayers on here. Laramie is a tough place to recruit to, whoever
you are. Nick Sabin would have a tough time recruiting there. With better
athletes, and as an OC, he has already proven himself. If you really think the
Utes won't be any better next year than this year, look at his track record
as an OC - top tier of offenses in the country - not the league - the country.
I think it's an excellent hire. I'm glad the Utes were able to grab
him before he went elsewhere.
Just like Bronco did with Robert Anae, sounds like Kyle is trying to deflect the
criticism by bringing in some new blood. We will have to see if it works. Based
on his record, he looks like more of a has-been IMO....which sounds like their
previous strategy with Coach Erickson.Hopefully it actually works
next season, but only time will tell. If it is a failure though, Kyle's
second chances will likely be exhausted.
He better be great or a lot of people will be looking for new jobs next year --
with big pay cuts -- at non-automatic qualifying schools.
Whittingham seems afraid to fire people. The OCs at Utah sure do get demoted a
lot. This lack of consistency is going to continue to hurt the Utes.
A great hire. Those who actually follow all of CFB know this. Oh,
and angry haters … Merry Christmas to you too! Keep up with the holiday
Thank goodness we finally filled our vacancy at the co-co-co-offensive
coordinator position!Seriously though this feels like a long term
play that will hopefully end the revolving door era of Utah OC's.
That's a good thing. Let's hope he's the right guy for the
job.Welcome to the U, Dave!
Aggie 4life check your reading skills because he was named offensive coordinator
not the defensive coordinator. So why would anyone care about defensive stats
while he was a head coach at Wyoming? Dah! He was hired to out score opponents.
Christensen is a good hire for the Utes.Utah is already the best team in the
state and will now be even better. The offense will be exciting and consistent
with a coach who isn't too old or too young.Time will tell be it looks
promising to me. Go Utes
We are even more prestegous now because we have someone from wyoming and we even
now have 3 oc coaches to help us win every pac 10 team!Go Utes!
Shocked. Brian Johnson goes from OC, to Co-OC, to QB coach. Dennis E. goes from
NC Head coach to Co-Oc to RB coach. Replaced by a mediocre fired and now demoted
from head coach to OC. Do these guys have any dignity left?It may
work if egos can be altered, but, this smells like a recipe for a disjointed
program and building animosities.
Wyoming teaches classes on hating BYU. I'm sure its one of the first places
Good grief!A MWC head coach coming off back-to-back LOSING seasons,
with a loss to Texas State this season, replaces a one-time NC coach and
Utah's Sugar Bowl hero as Utah's new OC???Dave
Christensen's record at Wyoming2013 - 5-72012 - 4-82011 -

season finale, the Pokes were held scoreless until early in the 4th quarter at
Utah State and only managed 190 total yards. This is seriously a
"great hire"?Whittingham must be going for some kind of
record for having the most current/former offensive coordinators on one staff -
by my count, he'll have at least 4 next season.
What? Kyle goes through OCs like my wife goes through shoes! That's now 6 OCs in 6 years. Highly disappointed that he can't find
a longer term solution. There is no consistency in recruiting if go from one
offense scheme into another.
"Aggie 4 LifeNorth Ogden, UTSo the Utes pick up a coach who was

HAHAHAHAHAHA7 offensive coordinators in 7 years... that is NOT a
road map to build a championship team in the pac10.2It is glaringly
obvious the utes/whitt don't have a clue what they are doing!chrisb likes to always use alabama as an example... well chrisb, how many
OC's does alabama go through?LOL
Looks like another desperate attempt by KW to save his job. How many
OC's can Whit demote to chief cook and bottle washer before Chris Hill

program.Get him out, now.
@toosourforyou"Yup!! Oh, and speaking of Arizona, who won the
game between Arizona and Utah this year....remind me once more!"Reading articles about Utah football, and hiding behind other teams doing what
your cougars can't ever do.. I guess that's one way to deal with
getting perennially beat by the Utes. The basketball team certainly
didn't help you deal with it this year.I'm sorry it's
been hard on you guys. Here's hoping it gets easier!Merry

This is the first time in years that I read about Utah's new OC and
thought, "Great hire". Wyoming is not an easy place to win and he did
well. The last coach to do that was Joe Tiller. Missouri had great offenses
while he was OC (but then, the BIG12 isn't known for their defenses). This
hire also moves Brian Johnson back to his natural coaching position (QBs). I
rolled my eyes and chuckled when Utah hired Dennis Erickson as OC, but you can
certainly take advantage of his experience in another role. While
I'm not a Ute fan, I've watched them with interest and always felt
they were just one above-average QB away from being contenders. They always have
a great D but are wildly inconsistent on offense. This hire will go a long ways
to solving that problem.Last I heard, Travis Wilson's condition
was potentially career-ending. Has there been an update? I thought he was really
good and I hope he is able to come back.
truthsandwichUnfortunately for U, the Utes won't even have
their regular September bowl game versus BYU to beat their chests about for the
next two years.Enjoy the couch potato bowl with family and friends
while watching the Cougars playing in their 9th straight bowl game.Merry Christmas!
I don't understand this hiring at all. I think Erickson would be a great
OC with time to work with his system and a little luck with fewer injuries to
key players. Johnson as OC was a mistake, plain and simple. Another OC with a new system for the players to learn? I've been
supportive of Whit in the past, but this hiring makes no sense to me. I predict
Whit will be looking for a new job 12 months from now.
Coach Christensen,No matter what happens you know BYU fans have your
back...Welcome to UTAH!
In the words of Chris B, LOL!Seriously, how many
Offensive Coordinators does it take to run Utah's offense? Can't wait to see BJ, DE, DC and a new OC installed in 2015 as
Utah's co-co-co-co OC's.Whit could then assign each of
them a specific down to coordinate - 1st down coordinator, 2nd down
Erickson is about the only coach Whitt has ever hired without having a previous
relationship with them. That limits your options, especially when you
aren't a major-major program like Ohio State, Alabama, Texas, LSU, etc., or
have a genius coach like the-head-ball-coach, that continually sends coaches to
other schools and brings them back -- while promoting them when they come back.
Even BYU, with its honor code restrictions, hired Bronco, a previous BYU enemy
from Oregon State and New Mexico, as an assistant. When the Utes
moved to the PAC I thought they'd be able to compete despite their
competitive disadvantages of location, weather, stadium size, budget, market
size, etc., because I thought they had one advantage -- their head coach. Whitt
is looking more and more like a great DC who is over his head. He had one
breakout season, and gets his guys psyched up to play BYU. If the Utes
don't get to a bowl game next year, he has to be let go -- no matter how
many close games there are, no matter what their best upset win is.
Christy and byu fansHis offense this year did better than your go
fast go hard offense.LOL!
Moving Erickson out of the way has got to help the results. He's past
his prime, long ago.Just on that one fact alone, you can add 3 wins to
Utah's 2014 record.Great move, they'll win at least 8 next
year. You can mark that down, if you feel so inclined.
This is sort of like the blind squirrel eventually finding a nut.If
U hire enough offensive coordinators, eventually you'll find one who can
coordinate an offense.
It seems funny that BYU fans are laughing about the Utes OC hirings. Look in
the mirror. What you see is someone fired by the Broncster, kicked out of the
"Band of Brothers", and then re-hired by the same guy who fired him.
That makes a lot of sense. The "offensive power monster" you have at
BYU can't manage to beat the "awful" team that you BYU trolls love
to attack. Thanks for giving me fodder to continue to dislike everything that
is BYU. By the way, thanks for the early Christmas present with the
"great" effort your boys showed on the hardwood. Ouch, and yet you
geniuses still act like you're better. I'll continue to root for the
Utes through thick and thin, and be what a good fan is, loyal. You should try
Chris B"His offense this year did better than your go fast go
hard offense."Really? And how did you come to that
conclusion?versus Boise StateBYU 37-20Wyo 7-48versus Utah StateBYU 31-14Wyo 7-35LOL!
Seems like a lot of indecision on the hill. I don't follow Utah football
much since I usually have more important things to consider. So, I may be wrong
about this but it seems like this hire is a result of having no quarterbacks in
the cupboard. Utah has had a string of bad luck with quarterbacks but that is a
direct result of a weakness in recruiting. Hiring yet another OC probably
won't fix the problem unless someone up there focuses on recruiting three
or four decent quarterbacks. Is there no plan for filling (read depth), and
keeping filled, key skill positions? Not that I really care because I honestly
hope Utah loses every game they ever play.
Ufan"Can't wait to see BJ, DE, DC and a new OC installed in

Chris B said to,Christy and byu fansHis offense this
year did better than your go fast go hard offense.LOL!CB, forever you have said the teams in the MWC are horrible and yet you are
now talking about DC's offense doing good against those same "bad MWC
teams"? Why would the u hire a losing Coach for any reason, from such a
horrible league? You should quit posting comments while you are behind.
The OC job at the U seems to be a consistent 1 year contract. Not sure I would
be too excited about taking something so unstable.
Well I guess Whittingham has nothing to lose...either way if the offense is
unproductive next year, regardless of who's the OC, and Utah slumps below
.500 for the THIRD year in a row he and probably the entire coaching staff will
be done for. I don't disagree with this coaching hire. I'm
just glad he did it now rather than at the beginning of spring camp like the
past couple of years. I am cheering for you Whittingham and
Let's see, we've had Norm Chow, and now Dennis Erickson among the mix
of 6 OC's in six years. Can't get more prestigious than those two, so
perhaps the problem is more that Brian Johnson. I know I called for Johnson to
be let go and the more I think about it, Whit should be gone equally as fast. It's crap and I can't believe Chris Hill is putting up with it
They need a new offensive line coach (offense doesn't do squat if they
don't have time to get plays off) and someone to stop the defense from
being so vulnerable to the pass (either improve the pass rush or a secondary
coach). I don't see how this hire helps.
@Rational"Whitt is looking more and more like a great DC who is over
his head."In fairness, Utah has not had their starting QB get
through the season without injury since 2008. The first year in the PAC had Wynn
go down in one of their first conference games. Utah probably could've won
another game and gotten bowl eligible in 2012 but decided it made more sense to
use the freshman Wilson than the experienced senior Hays (work for the future).
Then Wilson suffers several injuries and ends up with a career-threatening
condition this year. Stuff happens. Just one more win each year would've
meant a PAC-12 championship appearance the first year and at least getting bowl
games the last two years.
I don't know who appears more desperate at the moment with this hire. Is it
KWhitt trying to salvage a job, or the king of "marking it down" doing
the backstroke on all things Dennis Erickson. Anyone else remember
all the glowing praise last fall about an OC bringing two NC's to the table
and big-time power Conference of Champions" experience? The current spin is
incredible.Onward and Upward!Best of luck Coach
Christensen! (You're going to need it...see legacy of recent past Utah
Now Utah has three OC's. All Utah really needs is a healthy QB for a whole
season. 2008 is such a long time ago. You know the last time Utah the same QB
all season. The offense was good the first six games and not so good after that.
Kind of follows the health of the QB.Go Utes!
Wow - six OC's in six years. Maybe Whit ought to try recruiting athletes
that are actually capable of running an offense - any offense. Utah now has
$450K tied up in their ex-OC's, now the QB and RB coaches. What a joke!
As much as I hate to agree with Blue Collar I'm afraid I have to agree with
Blue Collar. Tough day to be a Ute!
The OC position at the U is turning into the Professor of the Dark Arts position
in "Harry Potter"....
Bummer for the Utes. I saw Wyoming play Boise State and the Cowboy offense was
"Just like Bronco did with Robert Anae"Cosmo:Not
at all. Whitt never fired Christensen. On the other hand, Mendenhall fired Anae,
then was pressured by the AD to re-hire him.
The irony for BYU fans is that at this time next year, if Kyle fails, BYU will
be demoting Bronco to DC to make room for KW.
Is this the same Wyoming coach who flipped off Kyle after the Utes kicked an
onside kick in the 4th quarter of a blow-out game?
Just like predicted earlier this year that DE would only stick around one year.
Who wants to be the basement year after year. I even marked it down. The new guy will quickly become weary of being the laughing stock of the
conference and will also leave after two years. CB can mark it down.
Hmm?BYU went to the PAC 12 for an offensive coordinator, and Utah
crawls to Wyoming for theirs. Why didn't they find an ex-cougar? Look at
their defense, and it makes sense.Go figure.
The problem is Utah isn't a destination coaching job like ND, Ohio State,
or BYU. They will constantly have people coming and going. Welcome coach.
Enjoy the mountains, skiing, beautiful summers. For a year anyway.
Crissy B,The only fast and hard will be to the sidelines after a
three-and-out so their punter can pad his stats.
Maybe Coach Christensen can share with us that nice little anti Air Force
Academy rant that he did last year. That was classic.

I really had my heart set on Lane Kiffin.
Great hire for the Utes, an incredible offensive genius. Lets see the Aggies,
with theoretically equal talent held Wyoming to 7, that's right 7 points.
What an offensive output! The Utes really out did themselves here. Replaced a
coach who has won a national championship with a coach that has won.....nothing.
Come on Chris B the way you harp on the WAC 2.0 and the "magnificent"
PAC 12 you can't really believe this is a good hire. This is a huge stretch
down to gain an offensive coordinator. And the U of U death spiral continues.
Congrats to the new coach. However, the article failed to mention the
most important detail: how much he will be paid?
Not a good hire overall. When DE was named OC, Ute fans were really excited
about the potential to finally see a great offense at Utah. And for the first
half of this season, that's largely what we as fans got. That is, until a
few key injuries occurred. But more importantly than that, Whit seemed to be
involving himself more and more in the offense as the seasoned progressed (not a
good thing). This leads me to believe Erickson was not the problem. Until
Whittingham either changes his coaching tendencies or is let go, this coaching
circus will continue full steam ahead.
Doesn't matter who the Utes have as OC as long as Kyle is coach. History
shows they'll get spanked in conference and pummel the in state foes.
@ JohnInSLC:...oh wait, mussingaround beat me to it. Yes, I suppose that since Anae was here before that it isn't COMPLETELY
new. However, just like it appeared that Bronco was looking to pass the buck for
a lousy offense, Kyle's hiring of Christensen (especially just one year
after hiring coaching veteran Erickson on) seems eerily similar.
@Serenity - that coach was Joe Glenn
Yup, Dennis Erickson was the offensive savior Chris B deemed him to be. Six
OC's in six years? The Utes really know how to run an offensive offense.
Chris B: "Yes coach, we know what you mean! As you know, its
vastly better than being a non-power conference team!"As
opposed to being a non-power in a power conference.
Let's face it fellow Utah fans. Coach Whitt is clueless when it comes to
the offensive side of the bowl. I've never seen a coach go through new
OC's as much as Whitt does. No wonder our offense is so bad! Since Whitt
can't seem to fix the offenses problems. We need to hire someone else who
can. Does anybody believe Christensen will be any better than what we've
seen since Whitt's been the head coach?
@ Tom in MSHaving "better" athletes and being able to
recruit PAC-12 caliber athletes didn't help Denis Erickson or Brian
Johnson, did it?
RationalSalt Lake City, UT"He better be great or a lot of people
will be looking for new jobs next year -- with big pay cuts -- at non-automatic
qualifying schools."They're all non-automatic qualifying
schools next year. The BCS is no more, remember?
Tried to tell you that Dennis Erickson needed a trusty Designated Driver...but
you didn't listen.
Utah really should change his job title to one that is a more accurate
description of what he will be doing for Kyle and the utes... Instead of OC they
should call the job SG for 2014... (The ute's new Scape Goat...).In the meantime we'll take pictures of San Francisco and send them to the
DN for their coverage of BYU's Bowl Game victory over the Washington
Huskies... In fact, Christensen might want to watch it and see how a team in the
State of Utah takes down a team in the big bad pac12 that the utes have never
beaten... He might learn something useful for next year.
9/21/2013 - Utah at BYU - Provo, UT 20-13 W
Just smiling from the myriad of 'positive' Ute comments about this new
OC. There's something special about Santa delivering a new
'train' and seeing the first wreck!Merry Christmas Utes!
I don't care what anyone says but a demotion can never, and will never be a
feel good thing for anyone involved. I'm willing to bet that unless Coach
Erickson's pay will remain the same or comparable to the new guy, feelings
will be hurt and that usually don't end well. Ego and pride can be hard
obstacles to overcome. No one feels good about a demotion at any time, period!
LOL, those who are detailing which teams the pitiful Utes lost to this season,
always seem to leave out which team from down south they defeated. So, "remind me once more" who has won four straight in the
"rivalry" game. That's what I thought.... the silence is
deafening. When one team makes changes on their coaching staff it is
thought to be clever, when the other team does it, they are chided for being
dumb. That is always the way it is for little brother, mock big brother, but
then copy him at every chance.

maybe the Athletic director at the U can announce a new head coach via the news
media and let Whittingham learn about it that way to.Perhaps,
however, maybe Whittingham made it clear that these coaches always new that
coaching assignments could be changed without prior notice. They do still have
jobs. Stil, not very professional for this key coaching position
Welcome Coach and best of luck. That said, this is only a good hire
if it's a long-term hire and that's far from assured since Coach Whitt
may not survive another sub .500 year and since this hire is likely to make the
U worse on Offense next year, there's no assurance either of them will be
around next year. I expect digression on offense for two reasons:
1) he's putting in a new offense and they'll be a learning curve and
2) the U doesn't have the personnel, especially at QB to run the spread.
Wilson would be ok in the spread, but if he can't play, who else will run
it. None of the QBs on the roster were recruited to run the spread. If Wilson
can play, putting him in the spread just about assures it will be another year
when the starting QB doesn't last the season.I'm also
concerned about how many cooks there are in the offense--why not dump DE, he
can't be happy as a position coach and having him around will make second
guessing easier to do.

-- not named Utah.Lack of overall depth MAY be an excuse, but lack
of depth at QB, where you MUST be deap, isn't. It reveals a flaw in a
program, and how are you supposed to recruit depth when you rotate your
OC's every year? What top recruit is going to want to go to a program that
is that bad offensively, and that inconsistent in its scheme?
Snack PAC,I said "As the Utes quest", I didn't say that
they had moved onward and upward in the PAC 12. They have improved relative to
the WAC, the MWC, and byu but the PAC 12 has also improved since the Utes

Kinda odd given all the smack talk about WYO and the conference...they you hire
an OC who was at Wyoming. Nice spin from the usual trolls tough. Who knows,
this could be a good thing if players can stay healthy.
I guess they have to move onward and upward from 2-7 conf success. No where
else to go is there?

difference? A new coach will ask for patience, then bail when the welcome mat
is yanked out from underneath him.Utah and Colorado were invited to
the party to fill out the dance card, not to be prom queen. It isn't in
the cards. Be happy in your work (role as foil for the PAC 10 schools). The Y's dreams of grandeur are equally as fanciful.
worf:When the coach told him to pack his bags, Anae went from being
an OC for your indy/WAC'ers to a line coach for UofA . Then Holmoe
announced that changes would be made after Doman's experiment with a
left-handed fullback and an over-hyped prima-donna at QB went south. Presto, a
line coach in the Pac-12 is rehired to be an OC. Yeah, that's
something to be REAL proud of.
Just watch- a great nc coach and a former stud qb can't get it done but a
Wac coach from hill billy USA will
WACpaddledMore petty jealousy from a program that's not even
good enough to win their last two games against teams with losing records in
order to qualify for a bowl.
My suspicion is that Utah is doomed to another year of failure in 2014. The
rotating door of OC's makes it nearly impossible to implement a system,
recruit the talent to make it work, and gain the confidence of the players. So
Chris B, what are you marking down for next year's campaign? The quest is
to win three conference games? The Dennis Erickson hire, in my opinion, was a
huge mistake and I'm surprised he is hanging on in some capacity for
Someone please tell me something special BYU has done? Pleae tell me
jazzer"Someone please tell me something special BYU has
done?"Two iconic trophies represent the epitome of team and
individual achievement in major college football - the Crystal Football National
Championship Trophy and the Heisman Trophy. BYU has won both!-----------As far as 2013 accomplishments. BYU rushed for
more yards (550) against Texas(8-4), than the Longhorns have ever given up in
their entire history. Sure, this wasn't the best Texas team in history, but
it certainly wasn't an awful team either. The Longhorns tied for 2nd in the
Big 12, one game behind conference champion Baylor. To put BYU's
rushing performance versus Texas in perspective, Utah has never rushed more than
478 yards against any team in their entire football history.
So Christiansen got fired from Wyoming, and in taking his new position in the
Conference of Champions, basically blamed his lack of success on his players.
Classy. Umm, Coach, if you'd been playing in the SEC with Wyoming players,
you might have a case, but you were in the MWC where everyone had the same
Both BYU and Utah continue to show signs of desperation on the offensive side of
the ball. Mendenhall rehires Anae two years after asking him to reapply for his
job and Whittingham is even more desperate with this hire because his job was on
the line. Whittingham should have given Erickson more time. Pathetic.
As long as OC is a revolving door, the Utes will never establish an offensive
identity. This move is driven either by desparation as Whit tries
to salvage his career after two losing seasons, and a third on the horizon. Or
some real conflicts between Whit and Erickson that never surfaced in the media.
EKUTE,Funny you should use the word quest for what the Utes are trying to
do in the PAC12!!! Do you really think a failed and fired HC from the MWC is
going to be the savior for the Utes? Good luck it will be fun to watch from a
far!!! The main thing I see the Utes need is a good quarterback that can last a
full season!!! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to us all!!!
There are several ways to look at this. One is that Erickson was neither the
"coup" nor the "steal" that whittingham and Utah "fans"
claimed he was. I think that is the most likely scenario. Another is
that Erickson refused to be a "yes man" sycophant in the way the
ultimate micro mgr whittingham expects from his assistants. Still
another is that this failed mwc coach is somehow the real "coup" and
whittingham just couldn't resist him despite having hired Erickson less
than a year ago. This is the spin most utah "fans" will be spouting over
the next year. Another is that whittingham is just plain incompetent
and absolutely clueless when it comes to managing assistants, or even hiring
them. I think this is partially the case along with the micro manager point.Another is that whittingham is simply desperate and panicking to which
there is probably some truth. But all in all there is really no way
to spin this as a good thing, no matter how you look at it. Your 7th offensive
coordinator in 7 years is an obvious blunder, piled on top of 6 other blunders.
But it is extremely funny regardless of all the "reasons".
I come onto this thread and see the same, identical predictable back-and-forth I
find on each and every other thread--Yawn.So, instead, I'll
give you all a different perspective on it all--If Coach KW were
banking on Coach DE only being around for another year or two, which is highly
likely, then hiring Coach DC during this extremely tiny window he’d be
available on the market was absolutely the correct decision! He's a former
National OC of the Year and was runner-up for the Frank Broyles Award, honoring
the nation's top assistant coach, for a reason! It would only be
the incorrect decision, IF Coach DE were planning to stay on-board for another
3-5 years, for instance, which knowing him/his history and based upon his
current age would’ve been/IS virtually unthinkable! From every
program-insider I've come across, Coach DE not only knew about it well
ahead of it being finalized, he's entirely 100% on board w/it, as well!Merry X-Mas to all!
@ DuckhunterAs funny as it is for you that Utah hires new OC's
every offseason for the last seven years. It's even funnier that Utah can
still beat BYU even breaking in a new OC every year.
@elmer fuddCongratulations? Of course that is the only thing that
matters to Utah "fans" so your program is unquestionably a huge success.
DuckBYU's the only thing that matters to us Utah fans? Who is
the BYU fan on a Utah article?
