So if we can't raise taxes when times are tough... And we can't raise
taxes when times are good...So when can we raise taxes? We're still dead last in per pupil funding for education. Are we
essentially... Just giving up when it comes to funding education? We
need to raise taxes
Freedom, why are you trying to raise taxes? And why isn't Utah
in dead last in SAT scores if we are dead last in spending per pupil?
The reason I believe we should raise taxes is that we are paying about 3.5% less
than the average % that our parents and grandparents paid. The average % of
total income paid in taxes in the last 80 years is around 18%. We are paying
approx 14.5%. So why would anyone think that we should lower taxes? We are in
debt up to our eyeballs and we should........lower taxes? LOWER? I think we
should lower spending, but at least we should be paying what our parents and
Gparents were paying. If you were an individual and had massive debt
you would spend less and...attempt to increase your income, right? Our
collective income for our collective debt is taxes. So we need to increase the
income (taxes) while decreasing the outflow (spending).Yet again one
more topic me and Chris B disagree on. But I really like that he is an involved
citizen. Just not so much on sports.
We may not need to raise taxes to help fund education. We may just need to get
rid of some of the tax breaks for dependents (children) currently be allowed.
Should families be allowed a state exemption for more than 2 children? This
idea is picking up a lot of steam within education and fiscal conservatives.
I'd like to hear more about the debate in public.
The biggest threat for attracting new industry to Utah is our air quality. I
keep reading how GOED doesn't hold tours for executives and business
developers from out of state to come during our ski season due to our poor air
quality -- don't want to scare those people away as they see the pollution
that would drive up their ObamaCare costs. Ironically, these business
developers are checking out Utah for its skiing and outdoor quality of life --
too sad that our air quality botches that potential benefit for new
businesses.I just read that Obama is enjoying himself in Hawaii --
breathing clean air and enjoying the sun... while his constituents in Utah are
smothered in pollution. Why hasn't the EPA shut this state down? ... I
think it is a conspiracy to get Utahns to buy ObamaCare to pay for all the
health ailments we suffer due to our polluted air. The doctors get rich... the
insurance companies get rich... a stinking business!
