Typical comment by Smith giving credit to others. 17 of 20 with 5 TDs speaks for itself as does 11 wins this year.

Love all of the success our former Utes are having this season. Keep up the good work!

    GO UTES!

I love to see Alex Smith do well. I am a loyal BYU fan, but all the in state blustering should disappear when seeing great local talent succeed in the NFL. Alex is a class act. I am glad he now plays in Kansas City.

And the Utes continue to DOMINATE the nfl landscape of local teams.

    Think recruits know this?

    You'd better believe it.

    Think recruits care?

    @ CB
I think it is awesome Smith is playing so well.
But you ought to go look at recruiting classes right now.
Most outlets have the average star rating of BYU recruits higher than the U's
beside those news outlets that don't account for Utah's " No Ranking Recruits"
Merry Christmas and Good luck to the Utes

    Great day for Alex!

Too bad he had to spend so much time the the 49ers and their very frequent changes of coaches, none of who saw his real potential nor gave him a chance to do his thing!

More power to Alex; I hope we see him in the Super Bowl with whichever team it turns out to be!

The true measure of a football program is the quality of what leaves the program, not the quality of what comes in.

I agree with you I was just counter pointing CB.
The amazing thing is Utah placed more players in the pros that were MWC conference recruits that what is currently on their Pac-12 roster.
Whittingham developed amazing talent during the MWC years, it seems to be different now.
Good luck to the utes though.

    BeSmart,

    Good try

    I just checked rivals recruiting

    2014 average Ute Stars 2.73
    2014 average byu stars 2.67

Even if you want to look at total points, its 892 for byU and 998 for Utah. But even with Utah winning there also, the total points doesn't mean anything because some teams only need to recruit 10-12 new guys depending on how many freshman-juniors they already have, so its not comparing apples to apples by looking at total points(but again, if YOU want to fine, Utah wins that also)

    2.73 Utah > 2.67 byu

    LOL

Sorry, but I called you on your make believe claims.

And I'll remind you Utah has beaten byu EVERY year both head to head AND average stars the last 4 years.

    4 in a row in recruiting(soon to be 5)
4 in a row on the field.

    Coincidence?

    Nope!

    besmart,

Even though Utah is leading per rivals, we'll see where it shakes out, but if recent history is any indication, we both know how it will end.

Did you know not only has Utah beaten byu in BOTH average stars AND head to head recruiting the last 4 years, Utah's WORST year since our Pac 12 invite is better than byu's BEST year since going indy/wac.

    LOL!

I guess when recruits can choose between Pac 12 Utah and indy/wac byu, the last 4 years has gone like this:

    Utah
    Utah
    Utah
    Utah

And I wonder if getting better recruits had lead to Utah dominating byu in putting kids in the NFL?

    Yep!

Here are a couple fun facts about byu/Utah alum

This past Sunday just 2 Utah alum combined for 8 touchdowns, which 8 TIMES the total touchdowns scored by ALL byu alum, ALL season.

    LOL

Utah alum playing defense in the NFL have as many touchdowns as byu alum playing offense in the NFL.

    LOL

I wonder what other powerhouse programs only have 1 touchdown by their alum all season?

    Any?

    @ CB
Read my claim. I said outlets that include unranked recruits. Utah has a .06 advantage but the Nonranked recruits are not figured into the calculation Utah has 2 BYU 0.
Kenyon Frison is a soft commit sounds like he is going to flip to Oklahoma.
ESPN has BYU at 1 4-star 14-3 star and 1-2 star.
ESPN has utah at 13- 3 stars and 5 unranked recruits.
    Who has the better class?
The scary thing is every year Utahs recruiting has gotten worse in the Pac. 2010 was there best recruiting season.
    Have a good day.
By the way the vast majority of your alumni in the NFL are MWC recruits and there are not many NFLers on the Utes current Pac-12 squad. Have I ever claimed to say there is a power house program in Utah? Nope
I looked at several sources not just one. Rivals is a good source but one of many.

  • BeSmart Cheyenne, WY
    Dec. 17, 2013 10:56 a.m.

    According to Rivals
Utah has two unranked recruits these recruits are not part of their calclulation.
If you add in the two unranked Utah is below BYU (I stated that in my initial statement)
Hypothetically if you add the two non-ranked recruits in at a 2 what do you get?
a 2.61 which is probably being a little optimistic. Please read my whole comment before counter pointing.
Look at ESPN and it has 5 Utah recruits as unranked.
ESPN BYU 1-4 star Utah 0-4 stars BYU- 14 3 stars Utah 13- 3 stars BYU 1-2 star Utah 5 unranked recruits.
I referenced more than 1 source not just Rivals.
Have a good day, and be happy.

I love reading comments of ute and cougar fans argue over who's is best. PAC 12 basement vs mediocre independent. You would figure it's 1 vs 2 in the nation. You know if the table was flipped and BYU was pac 12 basement and Utah mediocre independent. Every body would be arguing that their new situation was better. Utes fans would argue 1984 national champ better than 2 time bcs. I love the argument sports is.

Then why can't all those NFL recruits get to a bowl game and beat Wazzoo?? LOL!

Only reason Asiata is playing is because Peterson is hurt. Its great for him and he's a great kid but how many snaps will he get when Peterson comes back? Exactly zero.

  • VegasUte Las Vegas, NV

    Jarka=rus

Say what you want about how and why Asiata got his playing time. The fact is - Asiata, in his ONE game, has three times as many touchdowns as Pitta and Collie have combined this year. With that, I guess you can say, three times as many touchdowns as ALL offensive players in the NFL from byU combined.

Way to go Matt - magic happened!!

    Go Utes!

    Worf

He does, but let's be honest here. Over the past 3 years, Alex has the 2nd highest winning percentage of all QBs, 2nd only to Peyton Manning. So yeah, he's got something to do with it too.
