before the same USU detractors get on here...GREAT JOB COACH!USU continues to make strides in football, and the program is moving in
a great direction!Utah State hey... Aggies all the way...Go Aggies Go Aggies hey hey hey!
Congrats to Wells, he did a heck of a good job, considering the setbacks. I just
hope that USU can hang on to him. He will be in demand. Good luck to the Aggies
in their bowl game.
There was some strange troll from down south that guaranteed that when Anderson
left that the Aggies would start loosing again. Aggies win, you loose.
Congrats to Wellsy. :)
Coach Wells did an amazing job. His ability to overcome the setbacks he
encountered was inspiring to the players, the community, and the school. If a
coach in SLC was able to adapt his team that way Coach Wells was able to, they
may have went to a bowl, no matter how powerful their conference is reputed to
be. Great job Coach Wells, hope you plan to stay for a few more years. Aggie
Nation certainly supports you.
Well done Wells! I have been totally impressed with Coach Well's
aggressiveness play calling. Aggies are in good hands.
Nice to have a complimentary, thoughtful comment from Chris B. Of course
Peterson didn't go to Boise (not recently anyway). One of the problems
with being a mid level program is your coach is always an offer away from
leaving. But still it is better to have short term success and lose your coach
than long term failure (USU has been there, that's for sure). Only a coach
near the end of his career, or one who just loves Logan for some reason and
wants to build a legacy (like Coach Romney and Morrill) would be likely to stay
on a prolonged basis.
@tinplaterI thought Chris B's comment was not complimentary. It appears he is saying that the best a weak program like USU can muster
is good enough for the puny program that we are.The comment section
around here, between Chris B and Stang08, is really turning me off to the Des
News. I can't tell you how many times my comments, which attempted to
engage and NOT mince words, have been rejected by the moderating staff here.
Frustrating.Their comments are condescending, snide, dismissive, and
trollish. But if you call them out on it, your comment is deleted.Go figure.
Wells did a great job at utah st. he should have beat the u of u and the game
would have been a lot closer against BYU if chuckie didn't get hurt. usu
is a up and coming team and will be good for a while. Good luck to the other
classy program in the great state of utah. (byu being the other one of
It is always refreshing to read about the success of men of whom little is
expected. Congratulations on becoming bowl eligible and compiling a winning
record despite the loss of your quarterback and other key men during this
present football campaign. It is also nice to replace the Utes as our favorite
in state rival.
Great job by Wells and his staff along with all the players buying into the
system and not giving up. The future is bright for USU. USU has now split the
last 2 games against the utes, with both teams winning on their home field.
With the utes getting so much more $$ from the pac 10, it is easy to see which
program is getting the most for their money and moving up instead of being a
punching bag headed downward. GO AGGIES......
Waiting for Stang0 to have something bad to say about the job Wells did. Stang0
predicted a horrible season for the Aggies because of the loss of Anderson and
graduation losses. Even he should be impressed with what the Aggies
accomplished this year without 5 of the initial starters early in the season.
But his response always is, only playing in the WAC 2.0 (so it doesn't
count). I guess he would like to have USU join the Big Sky?
Now the questions coming are how long can Utah State hang onto Matt Well? A
Wake Forest rumor a few days ago sent shivers down the spines of the Aggie
faithful, knowing Utah State is the poorest program in the MWC (WAC 2.0), and
could NEVER equal what BYU or Utah can offer a successful head coach
Great job Wells and team. It has been a fun season. As an Aggie it is great to
not have to wait until Basketball season to have something to talk about. Go
Hey SLC BYU fan,What nonsense…the poorest program in the MWC? Of
course we will lose our successful coaches, it comes with being a mid level
school. Look at poor Arkansas State…three conference championships and
bowls and three coaches in three years! But I personally would prefer a short
tenure successful coach than a long tenure failure. And finally, of course we
can't pay the salary rate of Utah and BYU. So what should USU do , give up
football? (And Utah will possibly be the coaching farm team for a good coach to
move up in a power conference…I think that has happened already
Although Utah State has started as one of the lower-funded schools in the MWC,
they definitely will be moving up that list with continued success like we have
seen over the past 2.5 years! As a matter of fact, I would say that Coach
Wells' work with the Aggies is even more impressive given that he is
working with less money than the other MWC schools (especially Boise State). Losing Coach Wells isn't an easy prospect to face, but I believe
that the true key to success at USU is Scott Barnes and his staff. They have
been amazing at getting the best bang for the buck and seem to be continuing
with that trend even with increased coffers!
SLC UT, agree completely. Stang0 Des News trying to make you into a nice
respondent! In addition to losing Wells, USU has to be concerned about losing
AD Barnes who has done a great job. The Aggies are in the perfect conference
alignment where all of the teams are near equals, all share the same prospect of
losing coaches and AD's if the program is successful and all probably have
athletic budgets in similar amounts. I wouldn't want USU in the PAC 12 at
all. We are in the perfect fit conference in the MWC.
The last coach to fail at Utah State was Brent Guy, Stang. Why do you ask? How
is it relevant or germane to Matt Wells' success? As for SLC BYU
Fan, I remember last year a lot of people saying we should be wary of whether or
not we could replace GA. USU kept winning without him. We will keep winning
without Wells when the time comes for him to decide on the next step in his life
and career.USU is no longer an irrelevant doormat team.
